I brought my family here to try this restaurant, and I’m pleased to say we all enjoyed it. We had the goat biryani, butter chicken, chicken makhni, garlic naan, paratha, and a mango lassi to finish the meal off. The butter chicken was my personal favorite, I couldn’t get enough of it. Biryani was fresh, chicken makhni was delicious, garlic naan and paratha were perfect, and mango lassi sealed the deal. But the butter chicken was definitely the best dish in my opinion. The service was great, the servers were constantly checking on us to see if we needed anything and took care of us well. I actually came back again the next week after this picture was taken from how much I enjoyed their food. 10/10 highly recommend this place for those who want some traditional Indian food

Delhi Darbar is an ionic old-school Chicago spot that’s open late for great Indian Veg – Non Veg cuisine!!!! It started many, many years ago on California, for cost effective, late night take-out and dine-in, from there it has evolved into an amazing restaurant experience that we have today. A clean restaurant, with quick service, and a complex yet simple menu. The whole menu is all-star items that you would order at majority of any Indian restaurant.
As soon as you are seated you will be served onion, cucumber, lime. Also each person gets their own Raita. The reason is you can season it more or less with the chat masala provided. I throw a few dashes in mine, some people that I have seen will shack the chat masala as if it’s their last meal.
Black pepper will have to be requested.
The night I took the photographs for this review we order the following and it was all 5 stars!!!!!

FRIED CHILIES

FRIED GARLIC

CHICKEN BOTI

CHICKEN MASALA

ROMALI ROTI

We did order Masala Pappad but they never came out and he staff did make sure to take it off our bill.

If you wanting great service go early, later you go rowdy the crowd gets!!!!

Highly recommend trying out some North Indian dishes here. Their Bihari Kebab wrap is my personal favorite. Also their Dal with the garlic garnish is a must try. The service is fantastic with people smiling and ensuring we’re treated the best! Overall, a great place!

I had a nice time here. The service is quite exceptional and they’re all extremely friendly. I really like this older gentleman who provides water in the beginning and helps to clean tables; he’s not fluent in English but definitely tries and is immensely kind.

Their naan is on the chewier side which I like; it is slightly oily which I didn’t mind. Their “rolls” are like burritos (huge!) and very tasty— would recommend! I also had their chicken masala which comes as shredded chicken, which was new and interesting, I liked it! Their main dishes do not come with rice so you do have to buy it as extra.

The restaurant really stands out for its service and I’d definitely come back.

I tried daal fry, aalo samosa and chai (tea) and found it up to the mark in taste. Paid street parking available.

I’ve been going to Delhi Darbar for years and always wondered why so many Desi families recommended it. We genuinely love their food, and the cashier — who has been working there for almost 15 years — always talks very sweetly and pretends to be extra helpful. But behind that friendly smile is a deceptive practice that customers MUST be aware of.

Here’s what happened:

The cashier goes over your bill in a very casual, talkative way, almost as if he’s helping you understand your order. What he doesn’t mention is that he quietly adds a tip to the bill, hidden all the way at the bottom of the computer screen where no normal customer would see it.

Then, when you insert your credit card, a second tip screen pops up, and he politely encourages you to “add whatever you feel like,” hoping you won’t realize you’ve already been charged one tip. When I told him, “You already added the tip,” he immediately acted innocent and clueless.

This is not an accident — it’s a pattern and a very deceptive way of taking advantage of loyal customers.

The owner urgently needs to fix this dishonest practice. Tip should be asked only once, and the automatically added tip on the screen needs to be removed completely. Customers deserve transparency, not tricks.

I strongly urge everyone: check your receipt carefully before paying. Don’t fall for the sweet talk or friendly act. Food may be good, but dishonest billing is unacceptable.

Food was very very subpar. Ordered 2 garlic naan, goat biryani, chicken makhani and samosas. The veg samosa was the only good thing. Goat in biryani tasted not fresh, chicken makni didn’t have good flavor and the naan was very soggy and tasted poor.

Wouldn’t return unfortunately.

Customer service was extremely poor. We ordered paneer bhurji, tandoori chicken, and chicken masala, and honestly everything tasted bad. When we complained, the guy working there was very rude and argued with us instead of handling it professionally. After a lot of back and forth, they finally replaced the food, but the attitude ruined the experience. We spent almost $100, and neither the food nor the customer service was worth it. Definitely not what we expected.

We have been regular customers of this restaurant for a long time, often ordering directly through their app. Unfortunately, the service has become unacceptable.

Previously, we were promised complimentary sabji and roti after being overcharged by the manager (“Uncle”). This is not the first time—he has a pattern of charging extra, especially when it’s the last item or when dealing with larger groups. To avoid any confusion, we even called ahead to confirm our order this time.

After waiting over 40 minutes, our order arrived incomplete—missing the very items that had already been paid for. When I called the restaurant to get this resolved, the manager was rude and dismissive. I requested to speak with the owner, Ashit Bhai, and was told he “was not at the store.” This turned out to be false information.

This is not just bad service—it is repeated, deliberate behavior. At this point, I will be taking legal action and filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Department.

As a loyal customer, I should not have to deal with dishonesty, missing items, and disrespect. This restaurant has completely lost my trust.

Great food, service, comfortable, friendly people. Best dining experience I have had in a long time. Waiter helped me through the selection as I am not real familiar with all the excellent choices. Go here, you won’t be disappointed. Took the Red Line from the Gold Coast to Devon and a short ride West on the bus.
Best dining on Devon in my opinion. Very comfortable and friendly people.
