We ordered the bacon wrapped dates and mushroom flatbread as appetizers. We enjoyed the flatbread… the dates were a weird mushy texture, but the group liked the taste.
For entrées we had: the sirloin, the rack of lamb, the lobster spaghetti… and I had two appetizers for my entrée (the lamb meatballs and onion bread). Our total bill for the four of us was just over $350.
The only food complaint really was there was a bit of shell on the lobster that had to be spit out. The only complaint we have about the actual restaurant was the music was so loud that it was hard to hold any conversation.
We tried a few different cocktails from the drink menu and they all tasted weird and were not very good. I don’t know how a bar could make something as simple as a Bloody Mary or Espresso Martini unenjoyable (especially for me, an adult beverage enthusiast) yet somehow Del Mar accomplished it.
Our appetizer was caramelized onion bread that came with a spread that included a lemon drizzle which was an incredibly confusing (and awful tasting) flavor combination.
Nobody was really wowed by their entrees. I ordered the Lobster Scramble which was just some basic scrambled eggs with lobster meat on top and an arugula salad that covered the majority of the plate.
People seem to enjoy Del Mars dinner entrees so I wouldn’t write them off entirely but when it comes to brunch service, it’s bold MISS in my opinion.
Will be back to try the brunch menu soon!
Del Mar is an experience. The place is not cheap but it is a great experience. The restaurant has a cool lay out. We had dinner upstairs which was nice – it would be cool to have dinner in their outside seating area in the summer. The environment was just right – not too noisy but not to quiet either – the right amount of light. The staff was AWESOME – our waitress was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious everybody love their choices. The drinks were great. The deserts rocked…
Del Mar is a great place for special occasions because it makes it memorable but is a little pricey for just regular dining.
I ordered the mezza platter with beef tenderloin. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the meat was tender enough to melt in my mouth. I enjoyed the hummus that was served with it as well. There was a flavor in the accompanying salad that didn’t necessarily agree with my palate (I think it was the mint) but that’s just a personal preference and it didn’t take away from the rest of the meal.
We finished off with the blueberry tart and olive oil cake. Both were good and not overly sweet like a lot of desserts. I preferred the blueberry but I think my employees preferred the olive oil cake.
Overall a very pleasant experience. I would definitely come back to try more things on the menu.
The portions were fairly large on some of the plates. Some of the others, not so much.
I did get the Cerviche, and I and my boyfriend did share this. I will be transparent. We did have some bathroom breaks through the next twenty four hours. And i’m assuming it was probably this since the rest of our party didn’t experience the same results, you might want to stay away from that appetizer.
Otherwise, it is very expensive Please plan accordingly! I would most certainly go again even though the appetizer experience was a little off putting, overall would recommend.
To start with all of the positives, the ambiance is almost top tier. The lighting is beautiful, along with the furniture, lovely patio upstairs and down, very cozy up-scale vibe. Easton is back on the up and up and this place is the perfect setting for a date night, elevated dinner out, or a spot for evening cocktails. The service is also above average for the central Ohio area. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly, ready to make suggestions based off of your personal taste, and happily ready to accommodate any dietary restrictions.
Now I want to preface the negatives by saying this place charges a heftyyyy premium compared to similar restaurants in the same style. That is completely fine, but with that, I feel like you expect a higher caliber experience. Firstly, the food in my opinion was very basically average. The highlight of everything was the braised lamb in the loaded hummus. The hummus itself was fine, but nothing close to the Columbus staples like Lavash. They also made a point to mention how the pita was made in house, but it was also not up to par with several Columbus Mediterranean markets. The ceviche was also just okay, personally felt like it was lacking in flavor. While the scallops themselves were fine, the 4 small pieces were accompanied by a very plain red pepper puree, a small bit of plain couscous, and a few pieces of romanesco that just tasted like steamed broccoli. The pacing was also a tad bit frustrating, with several minute gaps in between drinks ordered at the same time making it to the table. The Spanish G&T was also a miss at $17, thought the fever tree bottle of tonic water left at the table was a nice touch, just tasted like a regular gin and tonic. Espresso martini also was not the same as other CMR restaurants, but I guess that’s a personal preference thing.
Overall the place is nice and pretty and has a nice vibe, but not sold on the prices matching the overall experience, especially when this brand has some really great restaurants in the Columbus area.
