I had the immense pleasure of stopping through Death in the Afternoon (930 N Mills Ave, Orlando, FL) yesterday.

Edit: in response to the owner – I appreciate the thought behind your explanations and presentation. however, as someone who has been immersed in the industry for far too long and enjoys exploring new cocktail spots, I don’t think anything was that great and I personally wouldn’t make any of those drinks like that. I sent this photo to a lot of my bartender friends who found it equally as humorous. Food for thought.
Overall nothing bad happened here but probably won’t come back just because the cocktails (although reasonably priced) were lackluster and nothing special. I had to take a pic of the mojito because I laughed at how much mint was used here and I doubt it was slapped. The lime also has zest marks. You don’t use the same lime you zested as a garnish lol.
Service was overall fine and friendly. Pornstar martini wasn’t served with prosecco on the side and it wasn’t shaken well so again presentation and taste were off. I’ve had much better ones elsewhere. Again, nothing bad just better options in the area for a nice cocktail. Didn’t try the food.

Lovely place to enjoy a delicious pour of absinthe! Bartender was friendly and just attentive enough. Nice selection of absinthes to choose from. Decor/vibe is just right. The only nitpick is that I wanted to louche my drink with one of their fancy absinthe fountains, but they were all leaky/broken so I got stuck with the carafe— C’est la vie lol

I can always get behind a book themed bar and a macabre spot! Great cocktail bar with lots of creative and delicious cocktails and great bartenders! Went to try death in the afternoon but the winner for me was the Brooklyn. A Manhattan with cherry liqueur. As a Manhattan fan I was excited to see it and even more excited to taste! Delish! Moody dark interior and great service! I recommend making a reservation especially on the weekend so you’re not stuck on the standing bar.

Finally, I made it to this place, and I cannot believe I waited so long to visit.
We got there later in the afternoon after brunch, so it was fairly quiet with just a couple of other guests, but as time went by, it started getting busier. So go early because the bar is small.
I can confidently say this is one of my favorite bars now. The attention to detail, the craftsmanship of the cocktails, the speakeasy feel to it, I loved it all. Highly recommended for a date night, or hanging out with a group of friends (keep in mind the place is small). Outstanding service and great cocktails = always a good time.

Death in the Afternoon is an amazing cocktail spot right in the heart of Mills Ave. One of many great places in the area, but this one really stands out. The cocktails are top-notch, the food is just as good, and the atmosphere is super chill. I love coming here right after work — it’s the perfect spot to unwind before a busy night. Everything about this place just hits right. Definitely a favorite.

I went in for a a couple of drinks with a friend to celebrate my birthday. Had a Mezcal Mule and I highly recommend it. The vibes are great here and the staff is great as well. Very attentive and got our drinks out in a timely fashion. I will totally be coming back to try the food and some more drinks for sure.

Perfect spot for a moody date night! The Chi Chi cocktail is delicious (tropical vibes!), and the savory pastries are a unique must-try. I loved the salmon risotto, though the portion is modest. On the other hand, the chorizo burger is huge and husband-approved.
Expect to spend around $100 for two. Definitely book ahead as they were turning people away at the door. Only downside was a slight lag in food delivery,one dish came out quite a bit earlier than the other, but the flavors made up for it!

Cute unique and elevated cocktail menu. Highly recommend the Mai Tai and Sinister Kid (yes, they do have more than absinthe cocktails, actually have 7 rum cocktails), and fresh food. The price of the food is on the higher, and portions are smaller in size but taste was superb.

I went here with a friend and we did a couple of cocktails with a couple of appetizers. I love the selection of cocktails available, there is a page for each liquor type! My friend got a lot of the whiskey based ones and I a lot of the Rum based ones.
For the food – this place has some nice dishes and I got the potatoes, fries and also the gnocchi. They were all good and had great presentation. I only wish there were a bit more options for vegetarians or non-dairy options (vegan).
Environment
This is a very small place that can get packed very quickly. This is located off mills with limited and no designated parking spaces. Highly recommend that you make a reservation as this place is very small and can get packed very quickly
The inside was a great vibe, definitely great for dates and special celebrations. The drinks and food are nicely decorated.
Niceness of the staff
The bartender was super friendly and nice. We sat at the bar and so were able to order the drinks as soon as we needed it since he was right there. Also very knowledgeable with the drinks in explaining the various palettes and meanings of the drinks. We each tried 4 different drinks and it was great

Definitely more on the dinner cocktail price range. Each drink is 10-15$ and same for the appetizers. Worth the presentation.
