Had an amazing celebratory dinner at Dear Margaret! Our server Terry was great at explaining the menu and making recommendations. Don’t skip the trout dip and blue cheese, which is served with amazing warm bread made in house. I’ll be back to try the Nanaimo bar!

Absolutely loved everything about this place! The service is exceptional, the food is absolutely amazing, and it all takes place in a lovely quaint atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Shame on Google for not having a 10 star option.

I had such a wonderful experience at Dear Margaret! The food is absolutely fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality, organic ingredients. I also really appreciated the portion sizes—very satisfying without being overwhelming. The service was equally impressive: warm, attentive, and professional from start to finish. I’d highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Chicago, and I’m already looking forward to coming back!

Jill was our server for dinner and she is an absolute gem! We’ve only dined here twice but this is now my favorite French restaurant in the city! We LOVE Dear Margaret. Every single dish we’ve had is impeccable, I love their take on veggies and their spaghetti pasta dish lives in my dreams & I crave it constantly! Thank you Jill for making our evening, you are lovely!

We love French cuisine, and in Chicagoland, there is no better traditional French than Le Bouchon hands down, and we have tried them all. Now French Canadian inspiration, this might be worth looking into, but unfortunately it felt short. Not to compare to any specific cooking discipline but just quality vs. cost in general.
The duck liver mousse was very good, smooth house butter spread, pickled shallot, za’atar, toasted seeds to cut down the gamey flavor of the mousse. But $7.00 extra for the baguette? Come on now. This must be part of the French Canadian inspiration because who eats duck liver mousse just by it self, with butter? I can understand the hanger steak without fries situation. But not this. At least the server should have make it clear. I could care less about $7.00, but I don’t like being scammed. I saw the 9 grain toast charge on the menu, but not the baguette.
The salad was very refreshing, the red wine vinaigrette with a hint of mustard was on point, loved it.
I couldn’t stop eating the Fried Smelts, you don’t really need the tartar sauce because you should really enjoy the flavor of the smelts, plus the already pickled carrots and squash. I think if that has some Kale in there it will strengthen the texture a bit more.
The Duck Leg was very tender, but the sauce was way to sweet. I can understand the sugar shack baked beans (too hard), but the sauce on the duck itself shouldn’t be, there should be some balance there. Unless this is another French Canadian inspiration. The traditional recipe calls out bitter citrus, I still think that is more complimenting too enlightened the flavor of the duck.
My pork shoulder was basically a small piece of shoulder chop. From the preparation, it was cut from a larger shoulder roast and then pan fried. The celery puree and caramelize onion broth was a bit bland and it didn’t really stand out the pork flavor, but the prunes were nice. My chop was over cooked, half was edible, the other half was so dry they start to get stringy. I think I should have ordered the steak which was a much better deal than the duck and the pork. Overall, a bit pricey for what you get for the French Canadian inspiration.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Such a comfortable and cute little French place. (Not so Canadian to me lol). Loved every dish we ordered. Especially the Pommes Dauphine, a perfect combination of multiple layers of different flavors in such a harmony, i can just eat those one bite by another none stop. Service were also first class, our waitress was very friendly and informative. Will definitely come back often to try other dishes!

First time here and I love this place. Came for our anniversary and they gave us free champagne. We tried the escargot, oven roasted maitake, walleye, and duck breast. Everything was really good. I loved the escargot, maitake, and dessert (can’t remember the name sorry) the most, but my husband loved the walleye and escargot the most. Also the wine list is
