I am surprised that I never heard about this place earlier. I tried their Garlic bread, which tasted fresh. I should have tried the garlic cheese bread. The vegetarian pizza was good. The pizza crust could have done better. It was flaky and crisp. Personally, I would prefer the other kind of crust (thin and chewy rather than flaky and crispy).

Happy to have found this restaurant. This pizza place is known for its”Zilla” sandwich – a cross between a sub sandwich and pizza bread. The sandwich is really good. We had ” The House ” pizza, which was really good and the leftovers heated up really well. Interesting note, they don’t have sausage for the pizza but instead use spicy hamburger. Give it a try, you’ll be glad you did.

For a small little joint kinda hidden along side the road, this place slaps. And I don’t say that lightly as a native Chicagoan. This is legit some of the best pizza I’ve had. Get that supreme cause whatever magic they put in the hamburger and the sauce is pre magic. It’s a small place and gets busy fast but totally worth it if you’re in the area!

Ordered to go on 9/27/2025. Did not order a Zillow but the waitress said we did. What a lie. We don’t even know what a zillow is. Why couldn’t she just admit her mistake. Regular customer but very disappointed.

Chicken is AMAZINGLY GOOD! The pizza burger is like no other, absolutely FANTASTIC! The waitress we had was spot on and highly recommended to try the macaroni and cheese jalapeno bites. I’ll be back for sure to try them next. Just a heads up they open at 4 during the week.

A group of us were in town from North Dakota, Minnesota, and Chicago for a training event. We had to check out the local pizza joint while here. Daves is a smaller restaurant, and mini bar, with a family owned feel. Menu was not over the top with an excess amount of choices. These translated into a budget friendly meal for the 8 of us. The waitress was pleasant and quick to handle the group. The ‘3 Meat Trio’ was the primary selection as we ordered 4 of them. I will say it was a very good choice and I left with a full belly and some leftovers for a midnight snack. Looking forward to coming back so I can try the pasta. Highly recommend this place. You won’t be disappointed.

Dave’s is a ‘Cash Only’ place.

Dave’s Pizza is one of those places that I am not sure how it popped up on my radar. I can’t remember if it was suggested to me by someone or if its something that came up while looking for local restaurants to try. Either way, this day found Matt and I driving there for lunch. We went in with no expectations. No hype. No idea what the place was about (besides selling pizza).

We were seated at a table and given menus. It took some debate on what to order as a few things looked good. Matt and I have similar tastes but mine tend to be a bit more eclectic. We settled on something that had pepperoni and green peppers on it? Looking at my photo and the menu, I don’t see what it could be, so I am going to guess we built our own pizza. That’s the thing I love about pizza… you can customize it a million different ways.

Order placed and small talk ensued. While talking about random stuff, I looked around to take in the aesthetics. This is when my stomach dropped to my knees. I noticed a sign that said “Cash Only” or something to that effect. I looked at Matt and mentioned what I say. We both had some cash on us but wasn’t sure what the final bill would be, so we mentioned something to the waitress. She said they had an ATM inside we could use if needed and we aren’t the first to be caught off guard by that policy.

The pizza came out and we dug in with apprehension about the bill. It took a few bites to get my brain focused on the fact that I was eating something yummy. Pretty yummy at that. It wasn’t a pizza that blew my socks off but it did it’s job and that was enough.

By the second slice, I was happy and forgot about our dilemma for the time being. Matt and I put down most of the pizza and he let me have the ‘to-go’ container that held the last few pieces. We both really enjoyed the pizza as we discussed it a bit on the way home.

When we go the bill, we were both a bit surprised at how much higher it was than we expected. This didn’t make our situation any better. We both had to dig in our wallets to see what cash we had on hand. By the grace of the pepperoni god above, we had just enough to cover the pizza and leave a tip. This was a valuable travel lesson to learn. Always have some cash on hand in case of these situations. Some of these small town places are still cash only to avoid paying those debit/credit card transaction fees. Knowing and talking to a few small store owners, they all say those fees really add up over time.

Dave’s Pizza. A place we visited with no expectations and left satisfied, if not more relieved than anything.
