TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

I visited Dave’s Hot Chicken (Location #1218) on Costco Dr. in Tucson at 4:25 PM on January 28 and ordered Dave’s #4. The food itself was pretty good, but the dine-in experience and overall cleanliness were disappointing.
I planned to eat inside, and the dining area was not busy at all (pretty much empty) when I went to sit down, yet every table I checked had greasy stains, food residue, or sticky drips… not a single one was clean. I actually went back to my car to grab disinfectant wipes I keep with me. I returned the buzzer to the cashier who took my order and told her I’d be right back because I needed to wipe down a table. She looked genuinely surprised, but what was more concerning was that no one ever came out to clean the dining area, even after that.
After wiping my table down, the wipe came away dark gray, which says a lot about how long the tables had been sitting. I also noticed trash left on tables and food/pieces of chicken on the floor.
I then went to wash my hands before eating, and while the bathroom itself was fine, the paper towel dispenser was stuck and could use attention.
Overall, the food was good, but the lack of cleanliness in the dining area really affected the experience. I’d be open to coming back, but I’d hope to see a noticeable improvement in sanitation and upkeep.

Rozalynn was very helpful as this was my first time eating at Dave’s. She was patient with me and recommended I try the Medium spice level which was perfect for me. I also ordered a no spice tender just out of curiosity and it’s exactly as advertised no taste no spice would probably be perfect for kids or people with ibs or friends that tag along that do not like sauce, spice or seasons. The French fries are absolutely amazing. They have an outer crust almost reminiscent of curly fries texture with an ultra soft fluffy inside. Pickles are perfect not too sour or sweet they have a light dill flavor. They have a good peak tea, fountain drink & shake selection. One thing to note is in this Arizona heat they have an amazing air conditioning system in the lobby. Perhaps too good lol maybe sit in the center so your food doesn’t get cold. Other than that everything was great. The chicken is definitely made for the signature sauce.

100% the best food I’ve ever had, it’s an honor to have Dave’s down here in Tucson. The drive through takes a little bit of course, and every once in a while they don’t give me the extra sauces or cutlery kits I ask for but usually they are on point. And the restaurants vibrancy and abstract art around the inside and outside definitely boosts the atmosphere.

The chicken was soooo fried it was hard. We think they left it in th fryer because it took more than 30 minutes. Paid $1.50 for each ranch and they didn’t serve it. Asked for them. Got 2. Showed the receipt got all 4 with the excuse that she just clocked in. My son was super excited to eat here. Needless to say I’ll never go back.

This like all the Dave’s hot chickens are very good. Good quality food great sauces chicken tenders are awesome. Pretty standard stuff. The difference here in this particular store was the service. There is a young girl working here. I believe her name was Roz from her name. Tag said she was awesome. Great service very friendly just looked out for everything you needed and it seemed like at the time it was just her and one person here she was working her tail off getting everybody served so that’s what made this place special. So hopefully whoever sees this review will know that she is definitely a great employee and you need to keep her.

This was our first time at Dave’s Hot Chicken. The staff did an outstanding job of explaining the chicken and options. One of or party commented that Dave’s chicken is superior to the hot chicken they had in Nashville a couple of weeks earlier. The store is clean and well maintained.

Love their chicken sandwiches. Once you get into the hot or higher, it gets pretty hot. I love really hot spicy food but I could not do the Reaper. Service has always been pretty slow.
