Had Sunday lunch with some friends. I was not impressed with this restaurant . The service was fine , however, the food was not great. I had a crabcake sandwich with onion rings. The onion rings and coleslaw were good however, the crab cake sandwich was not very good, it had way too much filler and did not taste very good at all. In fact, it was so bad, I didn’t even finish it. the bread was not strong enough to hold the sandwich and fell apart and the tomato was nothing that I would consider edible. My companion had shrimp salad, which had way too much mayonnaise and I never would’ve been able to eat that.

Avery’s Maryland Grille offers a spacious and welcoming dining experience in Frederick, MD. The restaurant’s large dining areas make it a great place for gatherings, and the service was exceptionally friendly, adding to the overall enjoyable atmosphere.
The food was generally very good, with a few standout dishes. The Crab Pretzel was a definite highlight—rich, cheesy, and full of flavor. The Crab Cake Sandwich also impressed, delivering the fresh and flavorful taste of Maryland crab. The Oysters Rockefeller, while decent, could have used a bit more seasoning to bring out the flavors.
The Mac and Cheese was just okay—not bad, but nothing particularly memorable. The Captain Platter, however, stole the show. The Snow Crab legs were perfectly cooked, the Steamed Shrimp were fresh and flavorful, and the French fries were a satisfying side. The Fried Clams, unfortunately, were a bit of a letdown; they were too small and overly breaded, which masked the clam flavor.
Overall, Avery’s Maryland Grille provided a very nice dining experience. While a few dishes could use some tweaking, the friendly service and solid seafood options make it a great spot to enjoy a classic Maryland meal. I’d definitely return for the Crab Pretzel and Captain Platter!

I seldom have the chance for AUCE blue crabs and realy enjoy when I find an opportunity. The staff at Avery’s were the best and even asked if I needed more crabs after I had polished off a good dozen and a half! We had a group of more than dozen and had no wait on a Friday night and everyone was pleased with their meals. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

While visiting from Florida, I found myself in the Frederick area and decided to explore some local seafood spots. After browsing several options, I came across this restaurant Avery’s Maryland Grill, which had fantastic reviews—and it did not disappoint.
I sampled a variety of dishes during my visit. I started with the Rockfish bites, which weren’t quite to my personal taste—though not bad, they simply weren’t for me. However, the cream of crab soup was outstanding—rich, flavorful, and finished perfectly with just a touch of Old Bay seasoning.
The hush puppies were just as expected—crispy and satisfying, consistent with other locations. I ordered a half dozen crabs, while my sister had the snow crab, and both were incredibly sweet and fresh. The chowder had a hint of sweetness and a subtle, pleasant spice on the finish.
The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Our server, Diana, was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout our meal. We also had the pleasure of meeting the manager, Joe, who was equally amazing and made sure our experience was top-notch.
All in all, this spot delivered on both food and service. Highly recommended if you’re in the area and looking for quality seafood in a laid-back setting.

I got the boss and it was incredible. For 48.50 I got 4 crabs, large cluster of snow crab legs and 2 orders of shrimp. What a deal. I also had appetizers. Broiled scallops and oyster Dorchester and it was all excellent. I love it there and I’m coming back real soon.

First time visiting and I was very impressed. I was not expecting the atmosphere, cleanliness, warm welcome and excellent customer service we received. The epitome of what a restaurant that serves seafood should be. Totally recommend. The seafood boil mix was excellent. My family really enjoyed it. Thank you Shelbie! You were an excellent server.

I enjoyed my dinner at Avery’s Maryland Grille. We ordered Maryland crabs for the main course, and they were delicious. Service was great too. One thing to keep in mind is that this place appears to be very popular and busy. They do not take reservations, but you can – and definitely should – register in the waiting line on their website. You’ll be able to see how many people are ahead of you and time your arrival accordingly. So why 4 stars? It’s the atmosphere, which was ok. There’s no view; it’s definitely not the “fine dining” but a more casual place. I’ve been to crab places in Annapolis, and compared to those 5 stars would not be justified. But Annapolis is a pretty long drive away from Frederick, so here’s your trade off.
