Dave’s Coffee is a Rhode Island institution. Everytime I’m in Southern RI, I have to stop in to try the new flavors and creations. The baristas are excellent and knowledgeable, and I love the different seasonal options. I got the peppermint mocha latte last visit and absolutely loved it. Tasted like Christmas! They also offer a cool discount for bringing in your own cup.

Dave’s Coffee – Rhode Island’s Hidden Treasure Worth the Drive

Whether you’re a local sailor or just drifting through the Ocean State, Dave’s Coffee is a harbor well worth anchoring at. Tucked along the coast with locations like Charlestown and Providence, Dave’s isn’t just a coffee stop—it’s a destination.

We made the voyage not just for the coffee, but for the bakery treasures that come out of that humble little kitchen—and let me tell you, it was well worth every mile.

Their cold brew is legendary, smooth as sea glass and strong enough to wake the saltiest of souls. The espresso drinks? Balanced and rich, with that perfectly roasted depth you hope for but rarely find. And if you’re in the mood for something sweet, the coffee syrup (a Rhode Island staple) is bottled up and ready to take home.

But let’s talk about that bakery case, shall we? It’s filled with house-made items that rival anything you’d find in a big city patisserie. From seasonal scones and muffins to chewy cookies and one of the best coffee cakes this side of the Atlantic—it’s not just good. It’s “worth the drive” good.

The vibe inside is cozy and coastal, like stepping into your favorite local café where everyone’s friendly and the pastries are always fresh. Staff is quick, helpful, and seems to genuinely enjoy being part of the experience.

If you haven’t made the trip yet, don’t wait for calm seas—just set course for Dave’s. A warm drink, fresh baked goods, and a seat by the window await.

Good local coffee, but I ordered a single egg and cheese sandwich which took over 40 minutes. Locals and regulars should feel blessed that their orders are a top priority, as they were filled (food and drinks) while we waited.

Good Americano though.

I drove to Dave’s for a large bag of ground coffee. The woman at the counter seemed like she didn’t really want to sell me a bag, she said it wouldn’t be fresh; maybe she just didn’t want to grind it? I said I’ve purchased the large bag of coffee here before and she stated that it would stay fresh. The last time I bought it the woman who did the transaction ground the coffee in the same bag that it was stored in, this time the woman ground the coffee in a paper bag with handles? When I went to pick it up she asked; would you like the bag taped or stapled? I really didn’t want either. I wanted it in the same bag. I pulled off the shelf, but that seemed to be too tough for her to figure out how to do and she said that normally they grind it in the paper bag with handles.

Really they shouldn’t be selling the large bag if there’s no way to grind it and place the grinds back into the bag it came in

And then some other girl behind the counter, thought she would be smart and say next time you need to be more specific making it my problem instead of the coffee shops.
If the coffee shop is in the business to sell coffee, they should have a way to grind and properly bag the ground beans.

Dave’s Original Coffee Syrup… I learned about Rhode Island Coffee Milk while visiting Dave’s Coffee in Charlestown this summer. Came home with a small bottle of the coffee syrup, BIG mistake. Should have just packed a case in the car! I’ve never been much of a cold coffee drinker until… I’m hooked! Placed my first order almost immediately after arriving home when i realized my regret of purchasing only one of the small sized bottles. They communicated via email thru every step of the shipping process. Order was delivered promptly and was well packaged.
My daughter just visited from Utah. I’ll be ordering 4 of the 16 oz bottles and shipping to her today and another order for myself! My only wish is that Dave’s sold this product in stores in Milford, CT
If you’re going to be spending time in Charlestown, RI or just passing thru, I recommend visiting Dave’s little coffee spot. The outside seating is a bonus on a nice day but inside is nice, too. The avocado toast is amazing. Try the Rhode Island Coffee Milk just don’t make the same mistake I did… stock up on the syrup, just do it!!!

I have come here dozens of times and absolutely loved it i have never had any issues with my peanut allergy. Obviously I understand the risks of eating at a restaurant that has peanuts in the kitchen but I always let them know and it has never been a huge issue especially when it’s usually only in 1 or 2 things on menu. The last time I came in a week ago i was finished ordering with the cashier and one of the other girls came up from the back to tell me “they can’t guarantee anything” and “like we try to clean everything but there’s a pb and j donut and we have peanut butter” and I was just super alarmed by the entire thing. Way to really scare someone with an allergy that you’re not practicing safe allergy measures in the kitchen. There should definitely be better training on how to handle allergies. Me and my two friends walked right out – really sad because it was one of my favorite RI spots!!!!!! 🙁
