This was honestly the best pasta I’ve had here in Greenville, the staff was really friendly and they were easily able to accommodate my wife and I without a reservation, do keep in mind it was on a Wednesday night though. The place did get packed shortly after so I would highly recommend making a reservation but the food was great, the cocktail I had was strong the atmosphere was fantastic.

My only complaint is that their online menu was not updated, while looking for somewhere to eat pasta (because my wife wanted some) I saw they had a Ribeye on the menu which is why i decided to go here and then surprise surprise lol but the overall experience was amazing

Upon arrival at Davani’s, I was initially asked for my phone number—an odd request considering I did not have a reservation, but I understand it’s standard practice here. The hostess was friendly, though I sensed a slight air of apprehension.
I was seated at a comfortable table, and the hostess kindly offered me a wine list. I couldn’t quite tell if the question was perhaps trying to be humorous— I do think I look quite round. It did make me wonder if my outfit, though casual, was the cause of the slightly chilly reception. I wasn’t poorly dressed, though my sneakers were far from pristine. However, a quick glance around revealed another diner in a zip-up hoodie. I did not see a mention of a dress code or mere suggestion at one on their website.

Service: Tyler
Tyler, my server, seemed to share the same level of apprehension as the hostess, though his demeanor was polite. He presented the specials, but did not try to upsell or suggest any pairings, which was a bit surprising for a restaurant of this caliber. I appreciate the straightforward approach, but it did leave the experience feeling slightly less engaging. At one point, he took the menu from me before I could ask any questions, which felt a bit rushed. Later through my meal, I requested the menu for a second entrée (as was my plan to have all along) and that certainly seemed to change his tune.

Bread & Appetizer
The bread served with my meal was, unfortunately, better than the bread my Bruschetta was served on. The bread was soft and fresh. The oil and vinegar were simple, though the vinegar stood out with a delightful sharpness, while the oil didn’t quite match the quality I would expect from a place like this.
The bruschetta itself was a mixed experience. The bread was thick and starchy, holding the tomatoes well, but it felt stale and hard to bite through. The tomatoes, while fresh, were served too cold, which didn’t help the dish’s overall balance. The bread appeared “toasted,” but it was as cold as the tomato, leading me to wonder if the crostini might be pre-prepared. This is a common practice in some restaurants but one that’s better avoided. There were four crostini served over a bed of arugula, which was a nice touch in terms of presentation, and the portion was generous enough to share between two.

Scampi and Scallops Provencal
The standout dish of the evening was the Scallops and Scampi. The lemon added a wonderfully bright flavor, complementing the freshness of the dish beautifully. The scallops were cooked to perfection—tender and not at all rubbery, unlike the often chewy texture of frozen seafood. I’ll be asking if the scallops are ever frozen, as they were a pleasant surprise. The pasta was also excellent—fresh and well-seasoned, with a generous amount of freshly grated Parmesan. The shrimp, large and flavorful, paired nicely with the dish’s balance of seasoning.
For $32, the portion was substantial and, honestly, worth the price given the quality and taste of the seafood.

I also ordered the Duck

I have very little to say about it. The mashed potato was uninviting and the only part of my meal that I could consider to have been bland. The duck itself was good, but I will say jiannas downtown has a much better duck. Had I eaten this in the restaurant, it might have been better. I will also note that because I did not eat it in the restaurant, the salt and pepper on my table could have been considered part of the decoration since I had no use for them.

Dessert: Tiramisu
The tiramisu was a good conclusion to the meal—nothing particularly groundbreaking, but certainly satisfying. It was garnished with blueberries and a single strawberry, which I found a bit curious, but it added a nice visual element. The texture was smooth, and while it wasn’t the most innovative take on tiramisu, it was delicious and consistent.

Took my mother here to celebrate her birthday and wasn’t disappointed! This was our first time dining here, and i will reiterate other comments I’ve seen: the ambiance is dark. Other than having to use our phone lights to read the menu, everything else was perfect. Hanna was our waitress and was very attentive. Couldn’t really make many recommendations though, since this was her third week working there…totally understandable. Food was flavorful and authentic. We will definitely be returning.

Dinner was amazing! Our server took excellent care of us and had great recommendations. We started off the evening with calamari and the escargo puff pastry, which was to die for! I got the salmon and it was perfectly cooked. We ending dinner with the tiramisu, which was so delightful. The vibe is dark and cozy yet elegant.

Had dinner here with MIL who has lived in GVL for 5 years and had never been to this place even though it’s only 5 min from her home. Rave reviews–everything we had was delicious! We have a 6 month old and it isn’t the kind of place I’d suggest taking a baby, but she does go everywhere. They parked us in the back of a separate room where the stroller wouldn’t be in the way, she wouldn’t disturb other diners if there was an unexpected meltdown, and we really appreciated that.

Our server Tyler was excellent. When we couldn’t make decisions, he made suggestions. Service never suffered even with us being seated in probably the most remote area of the restaurant.

For apps, we had calamari and oysters Rockefeller-both good. For entrees, we had the Wagyu meatballs, chicken fettuccine Alfredo, and salmon. Husband was not impressed with the meatballs, but fettuccini and salmon were very good! We got tiramisu to go and it was kind of underwhelming–they put whipped cream and sliced strawberries on it (never seen that on tiramisu) and the portion was pretty small.

We spent over $300 including tip. The atmosphere and service made up for the “meh” on some dishes. MIL will definitely return and tell others about Davani’s and we hope to visit and try some other things next time we’re in GVL.
