As of early 2026, I would say this place serves some of the best koobideh and chenjeh kebab in the DMV. The food itself is excellent—well seasoned, well cooked, and clearly coming from a lineage tied to Shamshiri Restaurant, which has long been a staple in the area.
That said, it’s only fair to be honest: this restaurant seriously lacks flexibility and customer service. I don’t know the backstory or any internal conflicts that led to this offshoot, but while they’ve created a strong food product, the service mentality feels stuck in an old-school mindset. The attitude often comes across as “you should be honored we’re serving you—eat and don’t complain.” That may fly elsewhere, but this is the U.S., where customer experience actually matters, even when customers are imperfect.
Two examples stood out to me. On my first visit, the interior was extremely congested. As an architect, it honestly felt like a potential occupancy and fire-safety issue—but setting that aside, we repeatedly asked for the AC vent directly above our table to be adjusted, as cold air was blowing straight onto our heads. The staff insisted we were wrong and essentially dismissed the request rather than addressing it.
The second experience was with takeout. I wanted to place a catering-style order for a dinner at my home. They would not accept the order two days in advance—I had to call the morning of. Fine. But then they refused to sell kebabs without rice, forcing me to purchase rice for eight dishes—far more than we needed—at full price. No flexibility whatsoever.
In conclusion: the food is very good, and if you’re there purely for taste, you’ll likely be satisfied. Just don’t expect accommodating service or customer-focused thinking. That lack of flexibility is something to seriously be aware of before you go.

Incredible kabob this is the best sit-down kabob place in the Maryland DMV. Opened by one of the Shamshiry managers. The top-tier quality has transferred 100%. This is the kind of place you take your non-Persian friends to so you can show off. Barg, koubideh, joojeh and chenjeh. Have tried them all here so far and they are absolutely excellent. Get tahdig with Gheimeh on it. Not having fountain drinks is frustrating but Darband is so good I have to give full stars.

I’ve lived in this area for over 40 years, and any time I wanted really good kabob, I always drove to Virginia. Well… not anymore! Darband totally surprised me. The food was fantastic. You can tell right away that the meat is great quality. Super flavorful, cooked perfectly, and just really well done. For me, a good kabob place is all about the Koobideh, and theirs was awesome. The Barg was juicy and honestly one of the best I’ve had. The restaurant was packed (for good reason!), and honestly they should expand because I have a feeling they’re only going to get busier. We finished with some tea and baklava, which they get from Yas Bakery next door, and it was the perfect ending. Really good baklava. Bottom line: if you want amazing Persian kabob without driving to Virginia, Darband is it. Highly recommend!

Finally we found our place, the food and atmosphere, service, servers are perfect. We got Kobideh, soltani , kashk o bademjoon and tahdig ghormeh savzi, all were perfect , also for dessert we got saffron ice cream with falodeh, as a pastry chef i can say the taste was great. We definitely will come back again. I highly recommend this place if you like Shamshiri.
