I keep coming back for the veggies. The green beans and the seaweed with tofu is the best. Their knife-cut noodles with mushrooms have this fantastic smoky flavor—though the portion is a little small. Thankfully, you can swap in brown rice if you prefer.
The Salt & Pepper Tofu is a standout—crispy on the outside without being overly breaded—and the Spicy Pork Dumplings are just the right level of heat.
Pro tip: Parking is easier across the street if you’re cool with a short walk.
Downside: They can be a little understaffed at times

I ordered takeout- i got the Dan Mein Short Rib with the Baby Bok Choy in extra garlic. As usual it was delicious and fresh- but they are using an app now to order and they really thought about the customer when they made it because you can add or remove any ingredient on every dish and if it’s not listed -there is an option to write a note with your request. I know this seems basic- but I have encountered alot of apps that wont let me add or specify how I want it – like if I want it cooked well done or extra toasted.
I liked the option to choose what side or sauce (like their fresh cut ginger or chili oil) and how many I wanted and if I needed plates or utensils.
Overall I had a great experience with the app and they also gave me $6 off my order and $2.50 in dan cash for a $30 order. 20-25% off for first time ordering with app using code WELCOME
Their food speaks for itself, but perks help it taste a little better!!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while. The food was excellent. I ordered a little of everything to try. They don’t have their own parking but there’s a parking structure right behind and paid street parking available. They’re located in the same shopping area as Sugar Fish and Philz Coffee. It’s very clean inside and they do have a few outdoor tables. Personally I feel the dumplings are a bit pricey, but relevant to Pasadena. Their fried rice was very tasty. I’d prefer the popcorn chicken with more seasoning and without their dipping sauce. The mapo tofu didn’t over power the taste of the crab. I’d definitely order the noodles again. The crispy dumplings were pretty much perfect.

They are ver delicious dumplings, especially the soup ones. The noodles were good. Happened to try out their special flavored beers. I definitely recommend this place. It is a little hidden from the alley that looks like a plain parking structure.

Loved our dinner at Dan Modern Chinese in Pasadena! The food was amazing, everything from the dumplings to the noodles was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Our server Eric was awesome, super kind, and made great recommendations. Anthony and the rest of the team were really helpful and made the whole experience even better. Great vibe, great service, and delicious food. We can’t wait to come back!

Loved everything, but not the vegan dumplings (a bit flavorless) I’d go back to get the salt and pepper tofu, any of the garlic veggies, the cucumber salad and the scallion pancakes (I was the only one that liked these). Service was quick and there wasn’t a two hour line which as great. It’s tucked away in an inside corner of the plaza and a bit hidden, but it’s there, you’ll find it.
I’d go back and add some noodles or rice to this order.
Happy Munchies,

I typically order takeout, but the restaurant is nice as well. xlb is great, three cup chicken and dan mein (any meat) noodles are also favorites. Pea shoots or snow pea leaves are amazing sides. Fried rice solid. Honestly i haven’t had a dish that wasn’t excellent, and service/staff is friendly and attentive. Can’t go wrong!

So good! We had soup dumplings (yum!), fried veg rice, green beans, ox tail soup, and some kind of pork bun. Before you judge me for gluttony, just know that I regret nothing. It has been a long time since I had a meal with so much flavor. I felt like the pricing was fair and worth it. Our server was great and the food was hot. Thank me later.

We tried the Mapo tofu and Oxtail beef noodle. For $16-20, I think you can find better portion sizes for noodles. However, it’s cool that you can get “half portions” of most of the lunch items. Flavor was good, but I’m on the fence about whether I’d come back.
