We ordered fries and sundaes and they hit the spot! The only downside was the tables had crumbs and the napkins were empty, but I heard them making a plan to get those things done.

I hope to return soon for an ice cream cake!

I’ve had Dairy Queen in a lot of places.

Road trips. Little league games. Late-night sugar emergencies. But there’s something different about Dairy Queen in The Dalles.
This isn’t just a fast-food stop. It’s a landmark. A rite of passage. A creamy beacon of hope glowing against the Gorge wind.

I rolled up craving a cone. Simple request. Vanilla soft serve. Nothing fancy. But what I received was not just a cone it was architecture.

Enter: Kiana.
I watched as she took that humble swirl and elevated it into a towering monument of dairy excellence. The wrist control. The symmetry. The flawless spiral tapering to a perfect peak. Michelangelo had marble, Kiana has soft serve.

She didn’t just hand me a cone. She presented it.

It stood tall. Regal. Structurally sound despite the ever-present Columbia River breeze threatening to test its integrity. Not a drip out of place. The kind of cone that makes you hesitate before taking the first bite because you know you’re about to destroy a masterpiece.

And then there’s the vibe.

The Dalles DQ has that classic, small-town energy where everyone seems to know each other, and even if they don’t know you, they treat you like they do. The line moves fast. The staff is upbeat. And somehow the ice cream tastes colder, creamier, more victorious than anywhere else.

Maybe it’s the post-hike reward factor. Maybe it’s the Gorge air. Or maybe it’s just that when someone like Kiana is behind the counter crafting edible works of art, you can taste the pride.

All I know is this:
If you’re passing through The Dalles and you skip this Dairy Queen, you’ve made a tactical error.
Go.

Order the cone.
Witness the swirl.
And if Kiana’s on cone duty?
Prepare yourself for greatness.

I’m sad because my husband came and dropped off food and my cheese curds were not even half way full. I even called to ask if he ate any. It’s a bummer considering how expensive they are.

.79 cents for a tablespoon of sauce is robbery. Will not be back. Would not recommend. Why are you trying to profit off something that was previously free? Bad way to run a business. Burger was squashed.

Well, we ordered a peanut buster parfait and a blizzard (in the drive thru) and the peanut buster parfait was given to us really quick and the blizzard was not. We saw it sitting on the counter and it took probably seven minutes before the children in there recognized that we were still sitting there waiting and gave us the blizzard that had already been made.
I think the current set of employees need to be reminded that earning a wage is not social hour. They need to be providing appropriate customer service.
