It saddened me to write this review for DQ. Its been such a nice establishment for years. We’ve been in Altoona since 2006. Im not sure what changes they have made or people they have hired. My girls and I are a frequent visitor to this location. We noticed the food and service have deteriorated to the point where I will no longer visit this location. Example ordered two soft served, vanilla and chocolate, when we got home, we received two HARD frozen containers of gunk, it was a workout to just scoop them out with a heavy duty ice cream scooper. I’m not a weakling, I’m a grown man, ex military, hot the gym 5 times a week and can bench 290lbs. Plus the containers were filled only 3/4 of the way. We ended up tossing it in the trash. Such a disappointment for the kiddos.

I also ordered chicken strip basket (see below) with tax it was $8.49. The chicken strip were really tiny (see picture below, I place ketchup packet for comparison), I also got 19 fries, and two pieces of toast. The fries were not bad but toast and chicken strip were subpar. It seems like it’s been precooked last year and heated up in the microwave.

People order soft serve for a reason, paid high price for a reason….don’t be a lazy clown and give the customer soft serve ice cream. Make fresh food foe the customer. ..live up to your moto , DQ: Grill & Chill. Improve your customer service. You are lucky you are are a franchise of a company owned by one of the richest man in the world. Strive to meet and exceed those expectations. Get rid of your lazy workers and replace with those that are highly motivated and willing to exceed the expectations.

Won’t be back here til 2025 or 2026. I highly recommend staying away from this location. Customers..dont accept subpar food and poor customer services.

Very impressed with the customer service, and quality of my order. Food was great and my strawberry malt actually had malt in it! The staff were all very nice and happy people! Shortest wait time I’ve ever had at a Dairy Queen by far. Highly recommend this location even if it’s out of your way!

Got a birthday ice cream cake for my boyfriend’s birthday and it was AMAZING! Quick to order over the phone and was ready right away in the morning. Staff were incredibly professional!

Got the Valentine cup cake. They look nothing like picture. Kids had ice cream cones glad it wasn’t summer or they wouldn’t of made it to the table. Super runny twist cones.

Went to Des Moines on a trip and stop at this particular DQ. Very disappointed. First, the workers spend more time joking around than attending the front. Even when they saw I was at the counter, just looked and kept joking around. I get my food and looks more a kids meal than a $7 meal. (As you can see in the photo). They forgot the drink so I went to the counter to ask for them. Same thing. Saw me and no one come. Had to call them and ask for the cups. Same issue to pick up the ice creams. Very disappointed and not stopping again on this one.

Used the drive through for a Blizzard and a cone. The ice cream in the cone was off centered and ended up sliding off into my wife’s lap on the way home. My chocolate dipped strawberry Blizzard wasn’t mixed. The chocolate chunks were at the bottom and all the strawberries were an after thought and dumped on top. Surely you can do better.

Our family goes to this location because it’s the most convenient location; however, I would not recommend. Everything is subpar and what you would expect from a DQ Grill & Chill, but it’s their attentiveness that’s incredibly lacking. My wife loves cheesecake pieces in her blizzard but prefers not to order the NY Strawberry Cheesecake blizzard, so she orders whatever blizzard she’s feeling and we pay extra for cheesecake. For over three years (I use her first pregnancy as a timeline because she was craving DQ almost every day), we have paid extra for cheesecake and never get it. We’re not one to complain. Plus, if we brought it up, I am sure an employee would play the “Well, you ate it didn’t you? Well, you took a few bites of this one so we can’t do anything about it” card, because we give the establishment the benefit of the doubt, and she’s not expecting a piece of cheesecake in every bite. We just want what we paid for. Please do better.

I was very disappointed. We waited for over 10 minutes for our food. The tea tasted so bitter it was undrinkable. The fries weren’t even cooked (think wet potatoes). And my barbecue chicken strips barely had any sauce on it. We eat here a lot and it’s been in a steady decline. I know we have a shortage of people willing to work, but this… this was just not caring. 🙁

Long drive thru line, so went inside thought It’d be faster to be there 5 mins shy of an hour for two kid/sm sized sundaes && a small order of cheese curds. The lady got us figured out eventually after i had to show her our receipt of what I even ordered because my number was cleared she upgraded our sundaes but unfortunately was crunched for time at that point we couldnt even finish them. I appreciate her trying to make it right tho. Just gonna rethink on the stop for a quick treat with the kiddo next time
