I have lived in the area for nearly 20 years and always heard good things about Dads but never made it for some reason. The location isn’t great but brings about nostalgia as it is located in an older shopping center. The line was pretty long when we arrived as they are only open for several hours for lunch before they sell out and is a popular lunch spot. So be prepared to wait a little. Service was reasonable given the line. The owner came out and talked to us a bit and ended up selling me on the Reuben, which was delicious. I believe he stated the meat was smoked for about 16 hours and everything is homemade, it tasted like it. Seating can be a little tricky and it appears they purchased the adjacent area at one point to accommodate more patrons. Prices were reasonable for the value. Absolutely would recommend stopping in for lunch if you are near and have the time!

As I was driving from Louisville to Knoxville, I called a Foodie Friend and asked if he knew of any great lunch places around Lexington. Yep! The speed of his answer told me to reroute my mapping immediately.

I am now fully on the weird and wonderful Dad’s Favorites Deli bandwagon. I ate there (#3) because I was too late to opt into either of the daily specials, brought an extra sandwich (#5) home to share for dinner, and added three tubs of different cheeses to share for a family weekend.

I 100% recommend so long as you agree that the taste and quality of the food, plus quality of the people, is more important than fancy table cloths!

My husband talks about this place all the time, and today was my first time dining here with him. It was a great experience! I got the Cuban with the special sauce, and every bite was amazing!!! The owner stopped to greet us and was so kind. He’s a great guy! I highly recommend Dad’s Favorite Deli to everyone!

It’s pretty much an icon in Lexington. Popular from college students to senior adults. All the regular sandwiches are great, but the specials are worth checking out. The line is long, especially on Thursday and Friday. Most likely you will encounter “Dad”. And he’s very friendly helpful. The only thing wrong with this place is it’s not open long enough

Original Review 7.25.2025: When I entered the restaurant, I was asked if it was my first visit. When I said, “Yes, it is”. The gentleman pointed in the direction of the register (very small place so no need for guidance) and said that xxx would tell me about the restaurant. The cashier, who seemed genuinely friendly, told me about their cheese spreads (list is on the website), most popular sandwiches (#3, #4, #5), and daily specials (also on the website). I was craving something specific that day so I had googled “Chicken Salad” and this restaurant had come up as their Monday specials are two Chicken Salad options. I ordered the sandwich to go. For those eating there, they have no seating inside the ordering restaurant but have seating throughout the hallway of the shopping center as well as another storefront for seating a couple of doors down (see comment below). After ordering, they asked me to wait in the hall and they would bring me the order using the name I had given. I got home and pulled my sandwich out and thought the order was wrong at first. I had two half sandwiches. However, upon unwrapping I saw that they had cut the sandwich and wrapped each half separate. They were both perfectly toasted. I am not sure why they wrapped separate, but it was appreciated as I was only able to eat half in the first sitting anyway. As a food network watcher, I assume that cutting and wrapping separate may also be because less air means less steam which leads to crispy rather than soggy bread. I wish they had longer hours but as a mom and pop I understand.

Note: The entrance is very unassuming and because it is in a strip mall the signage is not prominent. I entered into the front side of the mall (see picture). If you enter here, you will need to walk all the way to the back to the last storefront on the right. I had originally walked by another storefront that just had seating and wondered if it was for them. I confirmed when I watched their video on their website that night. To get a more direct entry into the restaurant, go around to the back (where you think you shouldn’t be) and enter where their sign is. The restaurant is the first storefront on the left from this entrance. 100% recommend and 100% will be back.

Looking for the best sandwich and soup stop in Kentucky? You’ve stumbled across the best right here at Dads. As an avid fan of dads I have been countless times and have to say I have NEVER gotten a bad order, this menu has NO misses and will hit every time. Some of my favorites are the Roundhouse sandwich, as well as the Meatball Sub (add spicy ranch and banana peppers) And of course the go to the #1. As an avid soup fan i’ve never once received a bad soup from here they’re always hot, fresh and delicious! The Sausage potato soup, Tomato basil, and Chili are some of my favorites. If you’re looking for an authentic family owned sandwich restaurant that will guarantee you a delicious meal every time and a great experience, come to Dads. Total bang for your buck right here!

We tried Dad’s Favorites for lunch. I’ve never been here before, and I was in the area. I’m so I’m glad that I stopped by!
The Monday special is The Farmhouse sandwich. I knew it must be good because I heard (what I assume was one of the owners or the manager) talking to another gentleman who said, “I will go out of my way every Monday for a Farmhouse.
The manager then greeted and asked if we had ever been there before and gave us a great synopsis of the menu and the daily specials. Let me say, they were crazy busy, lots of things were going on (including training new employees), and he took the time to help us decide. That itself speaks volumes to me. The patient and personal touch is what it’s all about!
So, as you can deduct, I had the Farmhouse ($9.50), which had Dad’s Chicken Salad and Dad’s Pimento Cheese, served on white or wheat toast with bacon, lettuce, and tomato. Oh my gosh! This was absolutely amazing! Every bite slowly uncovered layers of delicious flavor. Let me be honest, when I heard pimento cheese on top of chicken salad, I really wasn’t sure, but one bite and I was convinced!
I had the pasta salad as my side. It’s made in-house and just as delicious as the Farmhouse!
My wife had the Chicken Tortellini soup, which she said was very good. Big chunks of chicken breast and full of flavor.
We did arrive a little before 12 noon, and it turns out it was a good decision because they do get a crowd for lunch. However, there is plenty of seating and service is fast and very friendly.
Next time we are anywhere near Dave’s, we will definitely be stopping here for lunch.
Flavorful food, fast service, and friendly employees is the perfect recipe to make Dave’s your new favorite!

Food was perfect. My Ruben was like a corn beef steak. Extremely busy place. The picture is how many people were in front of me in line and waiting.

Since this is my first visit, if my daughter who lives in KY didn’t mention about this place we would have never know this place existed. It’s kind of tucked away in a strip mall, signage is not the greatest so you have to know where you are going.
My veggie sandwich was great. The shop person went through the whole menu as this was our first visit. My family had various meat containing sandwiches and all of them were very happy with their choices. Amazing thing was that drinks were included in the sandwich. Their cheese dips looked interesting but I couldn’t bring it back to home, I didn’t get it. Maybe next time. I will definitely come back when I’m in the neighborhood.

Get there early because there’s most definitely a wait!!! I visited a few weeks ago, just so happened to be w picking up a pair of shoes that I had repaired and seen this place down the hall. When I first went in to pick up my shoes and noticed this restaurant, there was no wait. Once I picked up my shoes, the line was out the door. So, being that I had already made up my mind that I was going to try it out, I did wait in line. It did move pretty well, and I waited for just about 20 minutes total. I would definitely go here again and try some of the other menu items. Staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. There are so many different options to choose from. I even believed the owner was on site talking about some of the items that’s available. Great hospitality, for sure
