Great dinner tonight!!! We shared the ribs and chicken and it was delicious!!! Our waitress was very attentive and provided great service, didn’t get her name but she has been there 37 years. Will definitely be back!!!

D&K Hickory House has a new building, but the food is just as delicious as ever. The ribs are so tender that they fall clean off the bone. The relish tray is a crunchy, acidic balance to the meal. Be sure to order a salad so you can try their homemade dressings. Reservations are recommended because they’ve been very busy since reopening.

Our recent trip to Waterloo was topped off by a fantastic dining experience at D&K Hickory House restaurant.
Thanks to a Google search of nearby restaurants, we stumbled on this “hidden treasure”, and we’re absolutely blown away.
From the fast and courteous service by Cindy, our amazing server, to the final farewell from the owners daughter ( sorry, I didn’t catch her name), this place hit it out of the park.
My wife and I ordered salads with bleu cheese dressing, and were expecting the standard, generic dressing that attempts to taste like the real thing..WOW, were we wrong!! What we received was a homemade dressing with big chunks of real bleu cheese in a tangy-sweet mixture that left us wanting more. When I commented to Cindy, that it was the best I had tasted, she suggested we try the creamy garlic, also homemade, and she brought us a sample to try…another Home Run !!.
When our entrees arrived, which was surprisingly quick for a Saturday night, we were again, incredibly impressed.
I had the rib dinner, with hash browns.
The ribs were tender, tangy, and literally falling off the bone. As a BBQ junkie, I was in 7th Heaven.
My wife opted for the fried shrimp and they were cooked to perfection.
The meals also came with choice of potato, a basket with dinner rolls and crackers, and a small relish tray…all very tasty .
When Cindy brought our bill, she offered us a brief history of the place, and it sounds like citizens of Waterloo/Cedar Falls have been enjoying this local joint for over 70 years…very impressive.
All in all, this was one of the highlights of our visit, and we will be sure to return again, the next time we are in the area.
Two things to consider before visiting, they take cash & check only…no electronic payment…no problem…and, you would be wise to call first for reservation

We have the hickory smoked ribs they were absolutely fantastic you can’t cut them with a knife because as soon as you try the meat slides off the bone. Here also is a picture of our fantastic waitress underneath the Hickory House sign. She brought our leftovers out to us because we had forgotten them on our table.

I actually would have d liked my fished a little more done. I ordered the walleye fillet. They do give you a good size which I could not eat it all. The French fries were good along with everything else they serve you. I treated my Mom and she had the cod and said it was very good.

They do not take credit cards. When I called for reservations the lady on the phone could have mentioned that. They have an ATM there for you. Not easy to see all the buttons with the dim lighted atmosphere.

Our waitress was very nice and good at her job. All the rest of the staff was very nice as well.

Absolutely amazing food, drinks, and staff! It’s like coming home to family, here. The fried chicken is soooo yummy! The adult beverages are generous and some of the lowest prices I’ve seen lately. Coming here reminds me of going to Grandma’s on Sunday after church. The ribs fall off the bones and love the sauce.

Oh, and even the ranch is delicious!

We visited last night for the first time since the rebuild. OMG. The ribs were just as good, if not better, than the last time! The food and the service were nothing short of amazing. Sad to see some of the old “artifacts” that were lost, but good to see that the memories all survived. Just go. Get the ribs, and tell em I sent ya.

Not fancy, but good food and great service. I definitely recommend their specialty – the ribs. They’re old school through and through. They even only take cash or checks.

Small hidden gem. Really great ribs with a nice tangy BBQ sauce. Reservation not required, but would recommend.
