I’d driven past this place a dozen times over the years and never stopped… usually because I was always westbound during busy traffic and never wanted to turn across traffic to go in. I finally did stop in Wednesday 5/28 for a sandwich for lunch, and it ended up being less that I had hoped.

First of all, I get what they’re going for here… focus on a niche, do it well, and insist on sticking with it until successful. Well, they’ve been in business for 29 years, so I guess they’ve been doing something right, but I have to say it wasn’t apparent from my lunch order.

I ordered the “One Pound Corned Beef Sandwich”, which is exactly what it sounds like. Think of the largest sandwich you’ve ever gotten at Arby’s or Rax and double the amount of meat. The meat itself was the best part of the meal, and I would be tempted to stop by again and just ask for a 1-pound pile of meat. I have no idea if they brine/braise it on site or order it in (there’s no signage or anything outlining their process that’s made them successful for 29 years? Odd missed opportunity…), but it’s tasty, if a bit on the bland side. It came between two very underwhelming slices of rye bread, which promptly started to disintegrate and were useless for holding the sandwich together by the time I got it unwrapped (I had about a 15-minute drive to where I was going to eat it). The physical size of the bread seemed substantial, but I don’t know if the slices are too thin or the bread is just too airy or what, it more or less fell apart when I taken just a couple bites.

The only topping on the sandwich was plain yellow mustard. No other toppings were offered to be put on, but you could order toppings they would put on the side for you to add at your leisure. I suspect this is due to the aforementioned bread issues. I can’t imagine how much more fragile the sandwich would have been with giardiniera oil all through it, heh. I asked for peppers and giardiniera on the, and they were included in two small deli cups that looked like they’d been packed weeks previously and taken out of a fridge/freezer. Limp, unappetizing, not fresh-looking peppers absolutely swimming in oil, and the giardiniera looked a bit brown and “wilted”. Neither condiment looked remotely fresh.

Then… the pickle spears. Good Lord. Of course I got the pickle spears, you ALWAYS get the pickle spears at a sandwich shop! I was anticipating crispy, zesty spears cut from extra-large, tangy, fresh dill pickles, and what I was given was…. well, look at the pictures for yourself. They buy them pre-packaged and these were two days from their “Sell by” date, and had obviously been sitting in a box with for weeks/months under a pile of their peers, as they were smashed, unappetizing, and mushy… I didn’t even take them out of the “bag”. You know how you can tell by looking at pre-packaged salad whether it’s fresh or starting to spoil? These were definitely not on the fresh end of the spectrum. It boggles the mind that a boutique sandwich shop doesn’t try harder to provide just a bit of extra memorable pizzazz to what is otherwise a rather plain sandwich, rather than these pre-packaged afterthoughts.

Having seen that the sandwich came with “chips”, I was expecting house-made chips, or at least something a bit higher-end… nope. 25-cent bag of regular/plain Lay’s. Nothing against Lay’s… I love Lay’s. But I can go to the store and buy them for myself, I don’t expect to get them on the side of a $20 sandwich.

So there you go… I love the whole idea, as I love corned beef sandwiches, and the indoor/outdoor vibe of the location is pretty killer. But the food was remarkably unremarkable, with a sandwich construction that is unimaginative and very plain, bread that isn’t built to hold up to a pound of beef, condiments that seemed way past their expiration date, and “sides” that are phoned in without even the pretense of rising to the occasion of accessorizing a $20 sandwich meal.

Stopped by The DA’s Deli in Oak Forest on 167th. I pass it every day but never see any cars. I have also seen several social media videos so I decided to stop by. I ordered a1/2 lb Rueben. I truly enjoyed it. Choosing the 1/2lb allowed for the perfect ratio and balance of flavors. Every bite was the perfect bite. I even askee for extra thousand island; didn’t even need it. Be back real soon!!!!

Had the pleasure of stumbling across this establishment earlier this week. The atmosphere was great as the staff was very friendly and informative. I had no clue I was talking to the owner at one point as he casually took orders and worked like any normal employee. I had the one pounder and it was great! Only problem was I probably should’ve ate only half in one sitting lol. Anyway, they offer samples of their sides as well. I tried the mac n cheese and it was delicious. May be a bit pricey for some but it was all worth it to me. Can’t wait to go back.

Saw advertising on a social media platform and wanted to see for myself. I was a bit disappointed. I expected more flavor and thought the 1lbs sandwich to be a bit smaller than what I imagined in real life. For $20+ tax I don’t think it was worth it. Might just get the regular ½lbs sandwich next time if I’m in the area.

If you don’t order the extra lean corned beef at a 25% mark up, you’ll get a significant amount of fatty slices in your sandwich. There was so much fat in my sandwich that it made it too gross to eat. Fairly disgusting. The Mac n cheese is too mushy and looks like plastic. Everything is served barely lukewarm, which makes food poisoning a big possibility. This place is drive-thru only, but I had an opportunity to peek inside during a pickup, and the cleanliness of this place is subpar. Eat here at your own risk.

I was really excited to try this place, but sadly, was disappointed. This is a drive through only place, the wait was extremely long. When we finally got our food, got home to try it and was not impressed. It was rather expensive. A small Mac n cheese was extremely small for the price, the corn beef sandwich was room temperature, had no flavor. The only flavor you tasted was the rye bread. This was such a let down. We all agreed that we will not be back.

Ordered 1 pound corned beef sandwich. Rye bread was soft and fresh. Corned beef was tender and flavorful. My only disappoints were that they had No pastrami and pickle wedge was tiny. To drive almost 30mins one way to try their pastrami to find out that they didn’t have any was disappointing, but over all food I ordered was very good!

Had no idea Dad’s was in this location. Decided to stop, the inside was closed due to construction(think they opened recently and still building out, so drive thru only. I got the 1/2 lb corned beef sandwich on marble rye, pickle and chips no mustard. Came out to just under 12.00. the food was great as I expected having eaten at other Da’s previously. Employee was awesome, very friendly. Food was made fast. Overall a 4.8/5.0. And honestly I’m only dropping them a .2 because I have a big truck and the drive thru is tiny. Highly recommend stopping and trying the best corned beef you’ll find.

Not the best but very good! Pastrami was better then corned beef. We ordered potato salad and they left it out. Mac and cheese was not great. Spilt the ruben and a pastrami whith a friend. Next time I would get a ruben with pastrami!

On Sunday 3/30/25 after attending Church of the Good Shepherd in Joliet we decided to take that old fashioned Sunday drive out to Oak Forest to check out D.A.’s Corned Beef Stand. The food was nothing short of luscious. Everything is fresh. The whole place was clean and neat. The service went above and beyond my expectations. I was very pleased with the whole experience and I will be telling everyone I know and I will be back. My only wish is that y’all would open one closer to Joliet where we live.
