Curra’s Hyde Park is the newest addition from the Garcia family. Our sister restaurant, Curra’s Grill on E. Oltorf, has been serving up authentic Mexican cuisine for more than 27 years. We look forward to bringing those award winning dishes and famous avocado margarita to the neighborhood.

Curra’s Grill: Authentic Mexican Restaurant in Austin, TX
Reviews
We came here on a Saturday evening to celebrate our daughter’s birthday before dinner. My wife and I were joined by our daughter and her husband. The place was very busy—parking was extremely difficult and we waited about 20 minutes to be seated, which wasn’t surprising given the night and location.
We started at the bar with margaritas (including tip), which came out to $61—that felt a bit high for drinks alone. Once seated, service was excellent throughout the meal. Our server was attentive, friendly, and handled the busy environment very well.
Food-wise, most of the table rated their meals four stars. The queso flameado was the standout—served hot with warm flour tortillas that we shared, and it was easily the best item we ordered.
My dish, the Pescado Veracruzano, was the main disappointment. It was supposed to be snapper, but I’m not convinced it was. The fish itself wasn’t very good, and the tomato-based sauce was overly acidic and completely overwhelmed the dish. I’d rate that particular entrée closer to a 2–3 stars.
The restaurant itself is lively but very loud, which made conversation difficult at times.
Overall, I’d give this place four stars: excellent service, good food across most of the menu, but with some pricing concerns, noise issues, and at least one entrée that missed the mark. I’d come back—but I’d order differently next time.
The vibe is wonderful. Evening sunlight was filling the room (obsessed), the ambiance was peaceful, the authentic Mexican music was lovely, and ofcourse the food really brought it all together for a perfect experience.
I got the Mole enchiladas and Caldo Tlalpeno and both were delicious. The soup was sooo flavorful! The mole was divine. Loved the shredded chicken in the enchiladas.
10/10 experience, looking forward to going again!
We went right when they opened for dinner at 4 which for sure contributed to the peaceful feel, not sure if you’d get the same feel going during peak busy hour.
At Curra’s, which is close to the trendy South Congress neighborhood, we were seated immediately for lunch. Our server was fast and friendly, and she made good suggestions to us as first-timers.
We ordered the patos en mole tacos and the cochinita pibil. They were so flavorful and wow, were they spicy. As Californians who eat a lot of Mexican food, we were not prepared for the hear. But it was super delicious.
The spice might be a bit much for some folks, but we enjoyed it. Rice/bean/plantains definitely help.
All in all, a super flavorful meal!
Drinks
You can get margarita flights, but if you don’t like tequila, they also do really good Vodka drinks.
Planning
We showed up with a large party, but accidentally half our party didn’t come for 30 minutes and they didn’t say anything. They were really nice about it. I highly recommend reservations. You can do it online.
Food
Their queso was really good. And their overall meal options were great.
Environment
It is pretty loud because it is more of a robust place, but as long as you go in there knowing that you’ll be OK. I don’t recommend it for anyone with families with people that get overstimulated.
Warning, the pepper on the drink below is habanero…. I didn’t know that, ate it whole, and almost passed out .
