We (my wife and I) are on a local tour here in Mid-Tennessee. We stopped off I-40 at this little diner in Monterey, and let me tell you…this place is nostalgic. You can tell by the pics that this place has been here a while. Paul, the owner, has had it for 18 years now. I loved the big daddy burger, and my wife was pleased with the special (2 piece fried catfish). Fries and turnip greens were great sides, while the potato salad (mayo based) was way too sweet. They have a sign in Guest Book for travelers like us and the tiny train depot town is a cool little scene.
I recommend if you are hungry and in the area.

Walked in to the smell of a local diner and the atmosphere of business that’s been here a while. The cook/server was very nice. Food was very very good, I had a burger and fries. I saw a review on here about the fans being musty and ketchup bottles being greasy, come on none of that is true. I guess they were expecting a five course 5 star restaurant. She even came and refilled my drink when it was just under halfway empty. This diner was amazing and I will be coming back. My 1 and only complaint was the sweet tea. It tasted like they put the sugar in after the tea was cooled. Big no no. Other than that perfect!

My husband and I were driving through. Ordered a burger – very tasty – and the fried catfish special. Catfish is freshly breaded and fried perfectly. Turnip greens were tender but potato salad was a bit too sweet for me. We met Paul, the owner for 18 years. He was very nice and talked to us about his history for a bit. Service was great. Overall, a great experience!

We LOVED IT! We always look for local eateries when we’re traveling, and this was our gem on this trip.
The omelet had fresh vegetables in it, no canned mushrooms here. Homemade biscuits & gravy too. Our service was very good, and we look forward to our next TN trip.

It’s your basic old school downtown Diner. My cheeseburger and fries were excellent. Service was nice and fast, and my only complaint would be that it was kind of muggy in there. Maybe their AC wasn’t working real well. I would recommend it

My first time here. Older man, I’m assuming was the owner, was smoking in the dining area. Place doesn’t seem very clean, table was sticky. Chili was supposedly homemade, but tasted like they opened cans of chili with mystery meat in it and stirred them together, not a grain of salt in the scrambled eggs, frozen french fries, BUT the fried catfish was very good and the service was friendly!

Very traditional downtown diner. We had breakfast which was delicious. The service was small town friendly & they even ask us to sign their guestbook. Most of the locals that came in were called by name as they came through the door.
Great experience!

The moment we arrived I wanted to turn around and leave, but we were hoping to find a gem. Burger was good. This was easily the most filthy restaurant I have ever visited. The grease smell hits you as soon as you walk in. Cash register is filthy. Dirty, dusty fans propped up near the ceiling. Even the condiment bottles and menu were gross. The cook and waitress did nothing but sit and read magazines on their down time. It would behoove them to pick up a rag.

What a delight. We stumbled on this gem. Tim enjoyed his perfectly prepared omelette stuffed full. My BLT was thick with fresh tomato and bacon.
