What a beautiful place to experience!!! There are soo many cute details to the interiors of the place.
We tried soo many of their variety of dishes and loved all of them. Soo unique and healthy options.
Definitely worth visiting and experiencing this place.
They also have both indoor and outdoor seating.
And plenty of cool and cute items for purchase.
We ordered a mix of breakfast and bakery items. The blueberry muffin and the concha were genuinely good, and my husband enjoyed his migas with avocado, though nothing about it stood out as special. I tried the Tlacoyo de Frijol, which was $12 for a small portion tasty enough, but not worth the price. Between the three of us, we spent close to $100 for a brunch that felt very minimal in terms of quantity.
Drinks were another downside. They didn’t have regular coffee or tea, only their Café Cucharita, which has a very strong, distinct flavor. They also didn’t have Topo Chico, only a flavored mineral water I’d never tried before, and honestly didn’t care for. The server was also hard to find if we needed anything so I disliked that as well.
We sat outside since the weather was nice, but the chairs were hard and uncomfortable, which made the longer wait and higher prices more noticeable.
Overall, Cucharita is better for grabbing a pastry or maybe a single taco, but not for a full brunch. The food was decent, the pastries were the highlight, but the pricing, portion size, and lack of basic drink options make it a place I wouldn’t return to for a full meal.
Let’s talk atmosphere; from the get go, you’re greeted with Mexico City inspired decor that speaks to your soul. The space is beautifully curated and reflective of how vibrant Mexican culture is. As someone who identifies as Mexican, I felt incredibly seen and comforted by how thoughtfully the space reflects the richness of our culture.
But cute decor alone doesn’t make a great restaurant—you need a bit more than that to impress me. Thankfully, the food and pastries were the stars of the show. I had the chilaquiles (twice), and while they weren’t mexican level spicy (iykyk), the flavor was authentic and the tortillas had that perfect crunch I look for. I was also able to have a few bites of the other dishes on the menu (thanks to my family sharing), and each dish was amazingly flavored and authentic. The huevos mexicanos even tasted like my grandma’s food, which is the highest praise I can give. With the pastries, I’m particularly obsessed! I tried a couple and honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
Heads-up: It’s walk-in only, so if you go during peak hours, you may have to wait or get seated in the outdoor space (which is still super cute, but you’ll just have to suffer from the Houston heat)
While free street parking is available, it can be hard to find a spot during peak hours.
10/10 would recommend—i will most definitely be back for round three. What should I try next?
