Reviews
We ordered a wide selection and not a single item disappointed. The Pulpo Carpaccio was outstanding (10/10), easily one of the best octopus dishes I’ve ever had. The Crudo Mixto was incredibly fresh and flavorful (10/10). The Dashi Beurre Blanc Noodles were so good we ordered them twice—an absolute must (10/10). The Scallop & Mushroom Risotto was cooked perfectly, though slightly over-seasoned for my taste (9/10). The Ceviche de Atún was phenomenal (10/10), hands down the best ceviche I’ve had. The Red Sangria was perfect (10/10), and the Soft Shell Crab Taco deserves special mention unlike anything I’ve ever tasted, simply incredible (20/10).
To sum it up, I’m genuinely sad this restaurant is so far from home, but the next time I’m in San Diego, I’ll be booking a table at least twice.
If I had to offer one piece of feedback, it would be that the details of the same dishes are not always consistent. Sometimes the oysters are served without lemon, and for the same dish, sometimes hot sauce is provided, and sometimes it isn’t.
A big draw for me is the oysters, which I drown in their delicious house made chili oil served in tiny metal mugs. I find myself spoiled by this, and miss it when I have oysters elsewhere. The aguachiles are great, the verde being my favorite; light, fresh and served with crisp blue tortilla flats. Other items on the happy hour menu that deserve a try are the Torched Scallops, Sope de Marlin and the Baked Oysters. Yum.
If you come for dinner or simply venture onto the main menu, the Cóctel de Marisco is large, fresh and super delicious. It has been a light meal on its own for me. The Yellowtail Tiradito is like summer in your mouth, so good. The tostadas are delicious. If you are in the mood for something warm and rich, the Dashi Buerre Blanc Noodles hit the right note.
I think consistency in quality, cleanliness and service are important in a restaurant, and I am consistently pleased with the freshness of the food, the presentation, the atmosphere and the staff.
Which brings me to another reason I come back again and again. Paulo, Leo and Alonso. What can I say- charming smiles, enthusiastic greetings, good conversation, attentive and kind service, good senses of humor and great knowledge of the menu. I feel at home each time I come.
Already looking forward to my next visit.
I’m still thinking about the Crudo. Next time we visit San Diego, this will be a must stop!
of tea. Pablo G, Monica, Jose and Jay all made my first visit a fantastic experience.
