I ate here for 4 years after the mess hall was shut down for health violations. I think they had Forrest Gump’s friend Bubba on staff, but instead of shrimp, it was potatoes. We had mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, skillet potatoes, breakfast hash potatoes, scalloped potatoes, ham and potato soup, shrimp and potatoes, potatoes sandwiches, pork and potatoes, potato casserole, potato skins, twice baked potatoes, potato chips, potato chunks, riced potatoes…

We were there reunion weekend. I would rate the food about 7 out of 10. Some vegetables seemed to not be cooked thru but there was a good variety of food and a nice salad bar. A good array of drinks and good desserts. It was a large lovely room with a feel of history. I appreciated that we had several people at our table and we could hold a conversation and hear everyone without straining.

It’s at the VMI and I feel sorry for the students. The food is trash but they seen it as the best thing they ever had. With all the money that the VMI has you would think that they would treat their students better but no they don’t.

First time I came here I was yelled at, service was terrible. Had to fill my own pitcher, waiters yelled at me for some reason. Couldn’t talk to others at table, was too loud. Would not recommend.
