Reviews
The food is always great, but what always stands out is the service. From the moment we sat down, Shakur was attentive without hovering, genuinely kind, and made sure we felt taken care of the entire time. He checked in at all the right moments, had great recommendations, and kept such a positive, professional energy. You can tell when someone takes pride in what they do, and he absolutely does. Service like that turns a good meal into a great experience. We’ll definitely be back and hoping to be seated in Shakur’s section again.
I went to this seafood boil restaurant with my partner on a Wednesday night around 7:30pm, we’ve only been in Charlotte for about 3 months now we both don’t eat meat and love seafood and this is the second seafood boil restaurant we’ve tried and this review will make many comparisons to the Juicy Crab.
What we ordered for appetizers:
Hush puppies
Fried Catfish
Cheese sticks
Main Course was:
2 boils with 1/2lb snow crab
1/2lb shrimp
one with 1/2lb green mussels and one with 1/2lb black mussels Both with Crafty Cajun and medium spice
Service
The service was disappointing, I am a restaurant worker and I understand towards the end of the day and during rushes service can be spotty but in the section we were in there was only a single person taking orders, cashing people out with multiple groups of 6+ people. Which delayed us even getting our drink orders in. Multiple times our waiter seemed rushed and came to drop off us our food or sides and wouldn’t ask if we needed anything and it took us a few rounds of that before being able to ask for things like lemons. But he did come an check on us later in the night and was helpful and nice. This is less of a dig at the servers and more of a dig at the management for failing to have adequate amount of staff for the night and letting service time suffer.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is frankly abysmal. When we were seated initially the restaurant was bustling and people were having fun and it felt alive, but once a group or two left the place lacked in life. The music was turned down super low to the point where it was hard to hear, the TVs were turned to various sports channels and news but all of them weren’t turned up so it also had no real entertainment value to us. This is in comparison to Juicy Crab where their music was a strong focus of their atmosphere not only playing a lot of popular songs but even having DJ’s performing at their establishment. They also have significantly less TVs than Crafty Crab but still manage to produce a livelier atmosphere at their tables and bar than the Crafty Crab.
Food
The food was mediocre at best. Starting with the appetizers they were all underwhelming, the hush puppies were under cooked and still very doughy in the middles, the cheese sticks had good breading and cheese pulls and were served with marinara, but were on the chewier side and not in a pleasant way but more of a im gonna choke on this way. The Catfish was good and the best part for me it was juicy and tender and the breading and seasoning was tasty.
The main course was even more underwhelming, the main issue stemming from the sauce, not only was the amount underwhelming but its flavor was too, less cajunie and more salty, and not spicy at all. We ordered the medium option thinking it’d have a good amount of heat since next to medium it says in parenthesis “I like spicy” and we don’t have significantly high tolerances but it didn’t even make our noses run in the slightest.
The crab was okay but on the less juicy side, the potatoes were soft and tasty but could’ve been better if it could soak up a better sauce, the corn was okay, the shrimp was the best part of the boil, it was tender and juicy, then the mussels were okay, I just don’t like green mussels in general because they’re so chewy.
Overall it was just not what we were looking for and ended getting full simply from the mediocrity of the food and leaving early, while at other places like the juicy crab we’d spend hours. Not only that Juicy Crab cost significantly less, never in the multiple times we’ve been to the Juicy Crab and ordered drinks, multiple appetizers and sides along with 2 boils have we went over 100 dollars but here we went well over it at 114 dollars for the night and also getting significantly more satisfaction from our meal. We wouldn’t come here again and would recommend going somewhere with a bit more flavor in every regard.
