Continued, the rest of the meal was again average at best, grandmas pancakes comes w two eggs, one sausage, one bacon and a shrivel of ham. Also, two pancakes which I had upgraded to blueberry. Pancakes were the best part and for $1 extra for blueberries, totally worth the upgrade. Cracker Barrel pancakes have a crispy texture and buttery flavor which does make them unique. Probably, a 7 to 9 out of 10 depending on your preference of pancakes. However, sadly the rest of the items are average to below par quality. Not the quality of breakfast that would make grandma very proud. At least the place is clean and the staff if quick to remove dirty plates from the table. Almost with a sense of urgency that becomes apparent that turning tables is a top priority. After all it’s a corporation, which, is not a bad thing. Overall, Cracker Barrel, has its many shortcomings, tries to give the country feel but doesn’t let you forget it’s still a corporation trying to give some value and keep its food costs low. To their credit, I’ve had the dinner dishes like pot pies and meatloaf and was happy with the experience. On my next visit, I’ll try for lunch or dinner and hopefully be redeemed with a better experience.
However, my wife and I were very disappointed in what came next. After our server took our drink order, we looked at the weekend specials. We were there on a Sunday at 3:30pm and the Sunday specials were the ‘Southern Fried Chicken’ dinners. That’s what we were hungry for! We placed our order with our server, only for her to immediately tell us, “Sorry, we are out of the Southern Fried Chicken dinners”. What?! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! First… why did she not tell us this right up front? Second… the kitchen is out of their Sunday special at 3:30pm? I’m very concerned with the way this store is being managed. But it gets worse!
I’ve had the Meatloaf at another Cracker Barrel, and it was very good; so that’s what I ordered. Now, please take a look at the attached pictures.
I was brought a skimpy little piece of half-burnt meatloaf and a small slop of mashed potatoes with barely any gravy. Then five minutes later, I was brought two microscopic hush-puppies! (Ironically, the only item in this tiny dinner that had any flavor was the hush-puppies!)
Now compare this dinner with the four pieces of chicken I was looking forward to. We had communicated our disappointment to the manager regarding the Southern Fried Chicken dinners, and she told us sorry for the kitchen not having any ready. But you would think she would have told the kitchen to at least add one more inch to my meatloaf to compensate for their bad planning (smh)!
I really like Cracker Barrel restaurants, and I am so very disappointed in this one. 🙁
I hope they quickly improve.
Side note: Always love the music, but it was so loud here that my wife and I could barely talk to each other.
Although we were seated quickly with no wait time, the issues began once our food arrived. I ordered the Grandpa’s Country Fried Breakfast with chicken fried chicken, but it was served without gravy, and the biscuits and gravy that were supposed to accompany the meal were missing. I also ordered a side of pancakes, but no syrup was provided. I had to wait approximately 10 minutes for the gravy, biscuits, and syrup to be brought out, which meant I couldn’t eat my meal right away. By the time everything arrived, my food was cold.
My wife ordered egg whites and grilled chicken tenders. Unfortunately, one of the tenders was still raw. Due to concerns about cross-contamination, she chose not to eat the rest of her meal. Additionally, my son’s scrambled eggs were undercooked.
This experience was extremely disappointing, especially considering how much we enjoy the westside location. Sadly, this will likely be our first and last visit to the far east location. We would rather make the drive to the westside in the future.
