I’ve been to Cracker Barrels all over the country and this one is so good that they should train all the other stores because they are amazing.
I visited at 3:30pm on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Here are some things that really impressed me:
*The young lady who seated me was incredibly kind, cheerful, attentive, and efficient. I wish I could remember her name, but she is a role model for all employees. Despite having a disability (she limped, had a problem with one hand,, etc.), she was so much more efficient than what I’ve experienced at both the Gurnee and Naperville stores. She truly seems to care about the customers. I noticed she also pitched in tidying up things when no clients needed seating.
*My server, Kathy K, was the best one I’ve had at any Cracker Barrel. She treated me so kindly and I never felt rushed. She came by often enough for me to get what I needed, but not so much that she felt like a pest. She even brought a drink refill without me even asking. At Gurnee at Naperville I usually have to do all sorts of contortions to get what I need, but Kathy did such a great job that I could truly relax and enjoy my meal.
*The food was extremely well prepared and came quickly. My catfish came piping hot and crispy but did not sit in a pool if grease. (At the other Cracker Barrels it usually arrives barely warm.) The mashed potatoes were an appropriate proportion and very fresh, and hot. My carrots were nicely cooked but not water logged like they tend to be at other stores.
*I noticed the manager was actually helping and working/pitching in. I did get to talk to him and complemented how nice the restaurant looked and how his staff was fantastic. I really appreciated his response because he told me he has an awesome staff and will pass on my comments. He is a great leader because he’s a servant leader and gives others credit. Interestingly enough, the last time I was at the Gurnee store I watched that manager just stand next to the fireplace for a full hour just watching her employees and looking like she was waiting for someone to mess up. Despite the fact that it was very busy, the Gurnee manager never once lifted a finger to help her employees.
*The restaurant looks fantastic…clean, pictures straight on the walls, outside area was well kept.
I love how well run this Cracker Barrel is and will be returning and telling all my friends to visit.
*A drink was accidentally spilled at our table. Which was our fault. However, aside from placing a Wet Floor Sign at my feet he made No further effort to address it. He offered new drinks, but we had to ask again after he disappeared. I thought he was walking away to get more drinks and possibly a mop, but I was wrong. Granted there were several open tables all around us I had to sit in a literal puddle of soda the entire time.
I doubt I will ever stop loving Cracker Barrel, but I definitely won’t be back to this location.
*Also, when did Cracker Barrel become as expensive as a Steak House….
The food is truly extraordinary, featuring a diverse menu with fresh, locally sourced ingredients that delight the palate with every bite. Each dish is meticulously prepared, showcasing unique flavors and artistic presentation. Additionally, the gift store is a wonderful destination for finding specialty gifts, offering a curated selection of artisan products, handmade crafts, and unique souvenirs that are perfect for cherished loved ones or a special occasion. Whether you’re looking for something memorable or a tasteful memento, this store has something for everyone.
The server was solid so I don’t blame her but the steak was incorrectly cooked. Which I could accept so they recooked it and it was again incorrect. I asked for medium rare but both times were overcooked. Literally well done.
The third time the manager a young skinny man who said he was a manager named herber came out and asked if everything was okay and it was okay. Still came out incorrect, it was unfortunately medium well but I accepted it but this guy came out incorrect a normal outfit he said his name was herber and gave it to me and said I hope this okay because we will not be able to remake it. I asked him what do you mean and he said that he said no worries I just want you to be satisfied.
We then ate and had a decent time and when I was half way thru he came back and said I see you’re eating everything I think you enjoyed it. And I said what do you mean and he said that you’ve been bothering my staff and wasting our food. I wanted to make sure you were okay so you wouldn’t try to cause anymore issues.
I was floored, I apologized but I was frustrated that he treated me so poorly. So after we finished our food we left and tipped the server I think her name was Daniele or daniella. She was great but that manager herber was horrible and made me feel so uncomfortable when is all I wanted was to just have a good meal with my family and my steak cooked correctly but this herber guy made me and my family feel so unwelcome. I will not come back because he was so disrespectful treating me like I was doing something wrong.
I think the restaurant was solid and the server was great but that manager treated me like a criminal. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or if this is how he treats his staff but it was as incredibly disheartening. When I come back to town I will definitely steer clear from this restaurant.
Again I think the food was alright, the server was great but the manager his name was herber which I am not 100% sure but I believe I recall his name was he was so mean and disrespectful to me just because I asked for my overcooked steak to be remade. Twice. I do apologize but it was really hurtful. Please Cracker Barrel treat your customers better and I hope this herber guy treats his employees better than he treats his customers
