At one time, the American Flag stood front and center between the kitchen entrance and the grand fireplace that defines the Cracker Barrel atmosphere. It was prominently displayed and afforded the respect such a symbol deserves. Today, the flag has been pushed into the corner of that same wall, confined between the hearth and the base of the fireplace. The space it once occupied is now used to stack extra dining chairs, with at least one chair placed directly in front of the flag.
Additionally, an evergreen-style Christmas garland has been placed along the hearth and hangs over the edge, further obstructing the flag and restricting its ability to hang freely and unfurled. Equally troubling is the display of a Golden Eagle finial with one wing missing—a powerful symbol rendered incomplete. An eagle that cannot soar is an unfortunate and inappropriate companion to our nation’s flag.
This presentation is deeply concerning. I have personally met American veterans at this very location—men and women who fought and shed blood to protect the honor and meaning of that flag. Both the flag and those who served under it deserve better than to be obscured, confined, or treated as an afterthought.
I respectfully urge that the American Flag be restored to a position of prominence and displayed in a manner consistent with the dignity, respect, and honor it represents.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Elmer Bowers
Two months later: The broken finial has been removed. So sad.
Our server Evelyn R. You can tell she is a newbie waitress. Our food was already on the table but we have no silverware. We finally got some silverware, but there is no napkins. It’s a little ridiculous, since my husband had fried chicken and he had to go to the restroom to wash his hands. When my husband desperately needed a refill of his coffee to go with the dessert, Evelyn was gone again and he had to ask the waiter of the next table to give him some coffee. When we were finally handed a check to check out, our napkins were still nowhere to be seen. It’s so sad. My husband said everyone deserves a chance to grow from a newbie to a pro. I wish Evelyn has a better future too, but we definitely don’t deserve a dinning experience like this.
The fried turkey was very dry, but ok. Hubby says his was good except his dumplings, had no flavor and was cool instead of hot. My hash brown casserole was just the hard baked cheese topping. I may have gotten 2 bites of the actual casserole and even that was dry, Didn’t get any biscuits until our meal was almost finished, granted they were hot but by the time we got them, we were too full to enjoy them. Asked for jelly so we could take the biscuits to go, didnt get any. When did Cracker Barrel become biscuit hoarders?? Used to always get them when you sat down with your drinks.
Asked for a piece of pecan pie to go, got chocolate pecan pie instead, didn’t even ask if it was ok, just given the wrong pie. The picture is what it looked like when I opened it.
The young man that served us was kind but seemed to be in a hurry. I believe it may have been the end of his shift because he was rushing out of the door behind us when we left. We still tipped the young man as we normally would but don’t think we’ll be back to this cracker barrel. Hope it was just that they were having an off night, we all have them. However if it wasn’t, there needs to be some adjustments made to the quality of what is being served.
The picture of the wrong pie and the way it looks kind of represents the entire meal… Rushed and unremarkable!!
We were let down by our server Cassie, even though the place wasn’t busy, we had to keep calling her for her attention. Not once did she ask to refill our drinks. We were still eating and she came over and gave us our bill. She was more hospitable to people on other tables for some reason. Strange.
We’ll try a different branch in future.
My sister ordered a meatloaf meal that we had to wait 45 mins for and they brought out fried chicken.
So we had to wait another 20 mins for what she ordered my son ordered hamburger and salad and instead he got fries!!!
This is the worst experience I believe I ever had at sit down restaurant.
Also before our food got handed to us I ordered my mom country fried steak to go when we got home everything including the mashed potatoes was so hard it was barely even edible
