The rice field crab hot pot was delicious — the broth was light yet full of natural crab sweetness, and all the ingredients tasted very fresh. It’s the kind of hot pot you can enjoy without feeling heavy.
We also really loved the durian Thai sweet soup for dessert. It was creamy, fragrant, and not overly sweet — a perfect way to finish the meal.
Would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys clean, flavorful hot pot and unique desserts.
The flavors were generally fine. The spring rolls and chicken wings were nicely crispy and enjoyable, and the fried shrimp cake had good texture. However, the grilled pork neck was dry and quite chewy, making it a disappointing dish, especially considering the price point.
And that leads to the biggest issue: portion sizes were relatively small while the prices were noticeably high. For the cost, the food simply didn’t deliver the level of satisfaction one would expect.
On the positive side, the restaurant itself is new, spotless, and well-decorated. Even the dishes and tableware feel high-end, which shows they’ve invested in creating a modern dining atmosphere. Unfortunately, attractive bowls and plates can’t compensate for the fact that the meal felt overpriced and not particularly memorable.
Overall, while the environment is appealing, the value for money wasn’t there, and it’s not a place we would rush back to unless significant improvements are made to the food quality or pricing.
We were full at the end so couldn’t try desserts. Will definitely come back for this and try the desserts.
If you’re looking for authentic northern Vietnamese food that feels both traditional and heartfelt, Crab Hot Lau is the place to go.
The crab hotpot and the papaya salad is my personal favourite, then my kids had the usual pho and Bun Bo Hue which are delectable and authentic. It is my first time having a crab hotpot (but I have had a lot Vietnamese and general South Asian cuisines) – and the flavor is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite kind of hotpot from now on! (I am a noodle guy and that special kind of thick noodle made from some kind of yam is that perfect for that kind of flavorful crab soup.
Then we had a cake ready and not only are they willing to help serve the cake – they made an extra cheesecake with a syrup writing “Happy Birthday” on the side. They switch the TV’s sound to a happy birthday song to at the perfect timing… Incredible service and because we went at a lunch time (so not so busy), we truly feel like home!
