OMY! Went in today for the Wednesday meatloaf, mp & gb special, which was scrumptious. Brought home a heavenly dessert I haven’t had before–lemon cake. Hoping Susan can describe all 3 layers, because I can’t. There was a lovely lemon meringue frosting, but between the cake and frosting was another custard type layer of goodness. My new favorite homemade cake.

The Cottage Cafe made for a great stop for lunch. I had a cup of the tomato dill soup, which had a great combination of flavors, and the Benedictine sandwich. The sandwich was colorful and had lots of cucumber flavor. Having never tried this type of sandwich before, it was a great surprise. The place is wonderful with lots of southern charm. The staff was friendly and quick to take my order. This is the kind of place I’d imagine is a local treasure. Definitely worth a visit.

This is an incredible little cafe. Love the atmosphere and the staff is so friendly and personable, love that they also employ special needs individuals. I had the Hot Brown, my husband had the Pimento Cheese Burger and potato salad, it was all so delicious. The desserts were absolutely amazing. We will definitely be back, soon!

I loved having lunch at this little cottage! The service was outstanding and everyone was so friendly and attentive. Food came out fast and fantastic sandwiches and salads! Loved the chicken salad sandwich and they did not shy away from the meat! But let’s talk about the real gem of this place…the dessert! Oh my heavenly goodness! Lots of mouthwatering options! I opted for the orange dreamsicle cheesecake and it was delightful! Will definitely eat here again!

I met some family and friends there. I wasn’t very hungry so I ordered a side plate of fruit. The server said there wasn’t much to it and boy was she right. For $3.50 I got three slices of orange that were about an eighth of an inch thick halved, and what was probably close to 1 strawberry sliced into four pieces. The others food looked great and they said it was really good. I also had a piece of pie which was great. My advice is try the place, just don’t get the side plate of fruit.

Wonderful lunch spot, only open from 11 to 3 , take the alley and park in the back, the entrance is in the back. Lunch specials every day, and a small menu, soup, sandwiches, and wonderful dessert place. We had the bacon and benedictine sandwich, deviled eggs, and a hot brown. The a huge piece of marbled cake and coconut pie. The food was large portions and outstanding! I took the chicken salad.and cake home!! Will definitely go back!

Susie and her staff are absolutely amazing! I called Susie on Thursday to see if she could make an oreo birthday cake that our son requested. She did absolutely an amazing job on such short notice. Cottage Cafe will be my go to for our birthday cakes for now on! It’s homemade from scratch with real whipping cream. It’s huge and so moist – I can go on and on. If you haven’t visited Cottage Cafe in downtown old Middletown go. Thank you Susie! ❤️

Absolutely amazing cakes and pies. Some recipes passed down from generation to generation. The best kept secret in Middletown, KY. This little cafe is run by the sweetest family. Their homemade chicken salad is scrumptious. Light yet tasty and filling. I can’t tell you in words alone how decadent everything we purchased and tried was. Highly recommend going to eat here or picking up a nice desert. We purchased the strawberry jelly cake roll. Oh my it was melt in your mouth. If you want a cute story ask about the flamingos! I met Rachael and her mom and they are some really good people. They put their all into their products and reputation. Support you local small businesses but also worth the drive if you aren’t local.
