Just Nah
I recently had dinner at Caroline in Boulevard Casino. The place itself has a beautiful atmosphere — elegant lighting, nice décor, and great service. We started with oysters (light house and 875 ) both were amazing: fresh, flavorful, and perfectly chilled. Their gumbo was also really good, rich and well-seasoned.

Everything was going great until I ordered what I thought was the fish of the day. The server told me about their special fish of the day, so I assumed it was the same item listed on the menu for around $40. But when the bill came, it turned out to be $72. The dish came with a small piece of grouper on top of some smashed potatoes, four skinny pieces of asparagus, and a little bit of crab meat. That was it.

Meanwhile, my sister ordered the salmon plate — it was bigger, had more sides, and only cost $40. Honestly, I just couldn’t see how my grouper dish was worth nearly double that. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t seasoned or unique enough to justify the price.

Also, even though the atmosphere looked really pretty, it was surprisingly loud. There was so much background noise that it didn’t really feel like a fine dining experience.

Overall, Caroline has some great dishes and a classy look, but between the noise and the $72 “special” fish that didn’t feel special at all, I left a bit disappointed.

Our server Maria was a delight and pushed this to a 5/5 rating. Warm, friendly, welcoming, and efficient service. Atmosphere also very cool. The food was better than I expected, given the mediocre reviews. The fish of the day I got was a bit dry. But everything else tasted excellent. The Coraline Linguini was particularly very good. Fried green tomatoes, fried oysters, and Charred Corn side were all delicious.

Experience was a 10/10 from the moment we met the host. Our server, Alex, was so kind and attentive. The food was amazing! For starters, we had the New Orleans–style chargrilled oysters. For my entrée, I ordered the Linguine Caroline’s, and for dessert we tried the hummingbird cheesecake brûlée, which Alex recommended it did not disappoint.

Started with ahi tuna & oysters as appetizers – both were delicious but the ahi tuna was fantastic! My husband had the salmon, I got the red grouper – again both amazing. For dessert we had the hummingbird cheesecake creme brûlée which was absolutely amazing. Food was easily 10/10

Where the restaurant fell short for me was atmosphere & service. Our server was short, didn’t check on us, I had to wait for 15-20 minutes just for her to come over so I could order a second glass of wine. Service was meh – especially for the price. Typically for this price range restaurant I don’t have to hunt down my server or wait to order anything.

Additionally, it’s INCREDIBLY loud. Like can’t hear the person at the same table across from you loud. Literally we had to yell just to have a conversation- not what I really want to do during what is supposed to be a nice date night with my husband.

For the price, I don’t think we’ll be back. The food was totally worth it; however the service & atmosphere was not. ⅓ doesn’t warrant a repeat visit when we have many other restaurants in the area in the same price range where I can have a conversation without yelling & don’t have to find my server or wait forever to get something.

Entrance was pretty and you get transported into a quiet(er) garden-like, tea-party atmosphere. But don’t sit at this table in the walkway from the kitchen to the entrance. Waiters are swooshing me with their clothes; it’s an annoying seat. For food and drinks, The “where there’s smoke” drink is really good – I actually requested half maple syrup so it’s not too sweet and it was delicious. Hubby’s sazerac was served meat – just like they’re meant to be. The grilled oysters was excellent. Make sure to put a piece of bread on your plate and then take the oyster out on top of the bread. That way, you don’t lose any of those great juices. I even took a slice of cornbread and soaked up the juice that hubby lost lol. The cornbread is good – it probably ranks up there with some of the best breads I’ve had but doesn’t come close to Hestia’s Parker house rolls. But it did make me think of them which is a good sign, right? The gumbo was quite sad for $20. I found a couple of oysters and a large gulf shrimp. But I would say the Pappadeaux gumbo is way better. The Snapper Coraline was good but wow, so overpriced. I really don’t know why it was $54. It was definitely delicious but nothing special stood out to me. It was served with a creamy sauce with mushrooms, potatoes, and asparagus. And what cheapened it more was how another waiter (not our own) just plopped the dish on our table as he’s walking away. He didn’t even stop to kindly place it on our table. I felt like I was being served at some diner.

I don’t think we will return to Coraline’s. There’s a lot of seafood restaurants in the area that are more reasonably priced.

What a treat! We loved pretty much everything we ordered. The oyster sampler was delicious- honestly would just get the Cajun one and the 875 ones. Rocerfellers were great but the other 2 were special.

The cornbread is a must. The maple whipped butter is something else. My husband had the snapper fish of the day and I was jealous. It was sooo flavorful with almost like a gumbo sauce. My linguini with shrimp was great but I wished I got something else. Definitely will go back next time we’re at the Beau!

The Beau is one of my favorite places to rest, relax, and catch a good show. I’d never gone to Coraline’s until recently. I was absolutely impressed by the service, the atmosphere, and the food. The stuffed chicken and corn are divine! This desert, the brownie bites, was so good and different. My daughter, husband, and I were able to share the dessert. That’s how big it was. Definitely a great choice.

I had a reservation so I was seated upon arrival. The seating was very nice, my server gave me her opinion on her favorite dinner choices in which I chose the steak. It was cooked at a perfect temperature for my liking, very delicious. She also chose a great wine pairing. I have already recommended this restaurant to other hotel guests and will definitely return.

Food & Truth
Meh. The gumbo is the exact same gumbo from the Salt and Ivy Restaurant. The oysters are good but super small! Excellent drinks and STAFF. Steak options were underwhelming. No Ribeye. Chicken entree was sold out. Why do people give restaurants 5 stars so easily?? Not me. For the price of the items, I expect slightly better. The wait for our steaks was about 35min. You MUST make a reservation or you will not get in. Once we sat down! we saw a ton of open tables that never got filled. Food had zero seasoning (salt and pepper do not count) 4 stars is the real score folks.

Good Experience, but Not Spectacular

After trying a few times, we finally secured a reservation at Coralines. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance, with some tables offering stunning ocean views. The service was superb, and everything we had was good, though not exceptional.

Our entrees took about an hour to arrive, which was a bit of a wait. While the food was really good, it didn’t quite live up to the high expectations I had. The desserts, although they looked fantastic, didn’t taste as great as they appeared.

Overall, it was a good experience, but I’d likely opt for a steakhouse the next time I’m in the area.
