Social Profile:

The 2nd Chicago establishment to obtain a liquor license, this Gold Coast fixture opened December 6, 1933 following the repeal of Prohibition. The patina of Coq d’Or blends rich wood paneling, rogue leather accents, live weekend entertainment, and a cozy glow to a evoke a truly nostalgic vibe. Pre-prohibition standbys, executive pour martinis and iconic cocktails are mixed, shaken or stirred to astonish the taste buds and amaze the eye. Coq d’Or is a cozy little spot that we happened to stumble across. Located on the ground floor of the Drake, it has an old school speakeasy vibe. It’s great for drinks, dinner or just a light snack.
We were feeling peckish in the late afternoon, but didn’t want to spoil our dinner later so we got a bottle of wine and some hearty soup.
The staff was very professional and the soups were delicious. We did a New England clam chowder and a crock of French onion.
I really liked the chowder and it came with a sesame roll.
The place filled up pretty quickly when we arrived, So a reservation might be a good idea. We were happy to sit at the bar for our little snack. Check out the golden rooster today!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Review for Brian Martinez – The Drake Hotel, Chicago

I’ve been staying at The Drake Hotel in Chicago for over a week, and one of the biggest highlights of my stay has been the exceptional service from Brian Martinez at the bar and restaurant.

From the very first interaction, Brian has gone above and beyond to make every visit memorable. He provides the kind of service that feels rare these days—attentive, genuine, and consistently outstanding. Whether it’s recommending something new, checking in at just the right moment, or simply making you feel welcomed, Brian takes real pride in what he does, and it shows.

During a long stay like mine, you really notice who truly elevates the experience, and Brian absolutely has. He represents The Drake with professionalism and warmth, and he turned a great hotel stay into an exceptional one.

Huge thanks to Brian for the phenomenal service. The Drake is lucky to have him, and I look forward to coming back!

Great burger! $24 for a burger seems reasonable in this area, especially for a hotel restaurant.

I asked for medium rare and they delivered on the temp. The bun was soft and the fries crispy.

Good place to use your Hilton amex credits. Much better food wise than LH Rooftop at London House

This was our first stop during our trip in from Phoenix and we were disappointed. Having grown up in the north suburbs in the 70s and 80s The Drake was always held in high esteem. We were expecting a high-quality experience.

This was a late afternoon/early evening so it was not very busy. There were many open tables to choose from. Everything started off well. Our food arrived and the brussel sprouts tasted good. When we asked our server what was in the odd jammy sweet mustard that came with our pretzel he said he didn’t know but would ask. We were surprised that he didn’t know the menu. We were even more surprised when he said that the mustard was something that was not made in the kitchen but purchased. We took our time eating and enjoying our drinks. Our server came by as we were nearing the end of our drinks and asked if we would like another. We said we would need a few minutes to decide. He then disappeared for the reminder of our time there – well over 15 minutes.

We were also surprised to see a table piled up with all the plates and glasses that had bussed from other tables. In the middle of what should have been an elegant dining experience sat a stack of dirty dishes. It definitely ruined the atmosphere. We the. had to ask one of the bussers for our check. When a few more minutes passed and a check had not arrived we estimated the total and dropped some cash on the table and left. As we were getting our jackets on in the lobby our server suddenly appeared and told us we were short a few dollars on the bill. We settled up and left. No reason for us to come back here again. A truly disappointing evening.

I love this place! My friend and I came for Christmas Day lunch after church, and sat at a corner table, and had the best time!! We did the holiday dinner, and it was AMAZING! I actually added a bowl of Bookbinder Soup (you have to try this) because I hadn;t had it in over 20 years! (Last time was at The Cape Cod Room) Our server, I think his name is Daryl, told me the history of the soup! He was an amazing guy! Handled the crowd with professionalism, kindness, humor, and made the meal, as far as I’m concerned! Thank you everyone for a wonderful holiday lunch!

Classic and elegant with an old-school charm that feels timeless. The interior has a refined, understated vibe that makes it a great choice for a date night or a more formal dinner. The menu leans into traditional dishes done well, and the execution shows good skill without being overly flashy.

Service is attentive and polished, matching the upscale but comfortable atmosphere. Not ultra-trendy or loud, just a place that knows what it is and delivers confidently on

I’ve never felt like a Chicago resident more than I have when dining here. You enter into the establishment and find an open seat that best fits you and your party. The servers come and find you and they are the most friendly crew you’ll ever meet at a bar/restaurant. I watched many connections be made just by people coming and sitting at the bar. The food was phenomenal. The wings were big and filled with flavor. I could’ve eaten the whipped mashed potatoes by themselves. The benefit to staying in the hotel (The Drake) you can dine here and charge it to your room. Makes it convenient if you are in town on busy and need to charge your company for meals. I will be back to get more of the mashed potatoes and wings!

Historic cocktail bar on the ground floor of The Drake hotel that serves old school cocktails including an executive martini that is essentially two Martinis (pic attached).

We came here on a Wednesday night and walked right in for a table for two. The menu is small but the French onion soup and bookbjnder soup were amazing! We also split a salad and had the most ginormous cheesecake for dessert.

We stopped in in Coq D’Or within the Drake hotel on Chicago’s magnificent Mile during a shopping trip before christmas. This restaurant and bar in the basement level of the historic Drake hotel was warm and cozy. We especially appreciate that they had a live piano player who sort of did a rousing set of sing-along songs like a dueling piano bar. The service was quick and courteous, and our flatbread pizza was wonderful and drinks were served quickly and correctly.
