Nice place. Baked oysters were great and rivaled oysters Rockefeller. Crab cakes nearly all crab. Quiet dining room. Nice martini too! Service was friendly and efficient.

I don’t like posting negative reviews for places. I’d rather sing the praises of memorable restaurants that I enjoyed. With that said, this was the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in recent memory, and I needed to tell SOMEONE about my profoundly disappointing Valentine’s Day at Copano’s.

We made reservations for this place since it was Valentine’s Day. Even though we had reservations, we still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. There is no seating in the waiting area; my mom has mobility issues and we had to ask for a chair for her to sit for the long wait (they accommodated, thank you for that).

The menu was specific to Valentine’s Day. Fortunately no one in our party was vegetarian: I noted the complete lack of any vegetarian options for entrees.

We ordered drinks and an appetizer. They arrived about 20 minutes after we were seated, so we were there for 50 minutes before ANY food arrived. During this time a server came to the table and tried to give us drinks that were not ours.

The appetizer was…. fine, but unmemorable. A heavy, cheesy seafood fondue served with crusty bread.

The drinks we ordered were fine. NECESSARY even to pass the time. Because after the appetizer and first round of drinks, we were largely ignored.

At some point we DID attempt to order a second round of drinks, but this was forgotten by our waitress. I had to remind her, and even then, she only brought the wine that my mom ordered and not me. However, a server did try to bring us ANOTHER round of drinks that we did not order!

Over 100 minutes after we arrived, our server finally took our order for entrees.

We finally received our entrees 2 HOURS after arrival. I ordered a medium rare ribeye steak. What I received was seared on the outside and RAW on the inside. Now I LOVE rare meat. I like steak tartare and my spouse yells at me when I sneakily taste raw ground beef when I’m cooking. But this chewy, cold ribeye is NOT what I ordered and was certainly not worth the price tag nor worth waiting two hours for. I have NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE, but I had to ask the waitress to take the steak back to the kitchen and cook it further. When it came back, it was still raw. I didn’t care at that point. I wanted the experience to be over. I boxed it up to slice and make into expensive fajitas later.

Looking at other reviews for Copano’s, I am not the first person to complain about undercooked meat.

Oh and also my spouse ordered a lobster bisque that never arrived.

The check mercifully arrives. We were checking it over to make sure we weren’t charged for the drink and bisque that never arrived. And yet it’s….. completely, utterly wrong. Like for the wrong table. No wonder we kept being offered drinks we didn’t order. We had to stay at this place even longer to get the bill fixed.

Our waitress was apologetic, but not good. I will extend sympathy to her because I watched her be accosted and berated by other tables (not OK, not appropriate, don’t do this to your servers people). We were as polite as possible but my god this was a bad experience.

When it was all over, no manager/owner ever came to our table to acknowledge this mess. We received no comps for the late seating, late food, unreceived food, or under-cooked food.

It’s Valentine’s Day you say. I should be more forgiving. To this I say no, it’s Valentine’s Day and couples/families are looking for a special experience. The bar is higher, so the effort should be higher. Yet Copano’s has chosen to staff the place with what I assume is an army of minimum wage (or less) teenagers, both as servers and cooks (there is a window to the kitchen, and it looked just as young). I saw maybe one employee there who looked over 30. Valentines Day should bring a restaurant’s A Game. This was not that.

Oh hey and let me tell you about the men’s restroom. There is a large, framed photo of a topless woman prominently displayed in the men’s room. I’m no prude, but wow that sure was a CHOICE. I’d upload a photo but google will flag it.

10/10 would recommend. We visited Rockport for the first time for my husbands birthday / our baby-moon and we were excited to have great food throughout our stay… but were a little disappointed with a few of our first choices. That was until we started asking locals where the best food in town was. Several people pointed us to Copano’s and it did not disappoint. We ordered the brussel sprouts as an appetizer, which were a great portion size and so good. My husband got a glass of cabernet, and their wine prices were super reasonable. Then for main courses, I got their 7 oz Filet which was cooked perfectly – tender and juicy. And My husband got their scallops, which he said were melt-in-your-mouth perfection. We finished off with their seasonal dessert of a MASSIVE chocolate brownie topped with ice cream… and when I tell you it was the best brownie we’ve ever had I am not exaggerating. Our server, Arianna, was some of the best service we have had in a long time. She explained all the specials, was prompt and personable (despite being triple sat) and checked on us at all the right times. Some people are just GREAT at serving, and it makes the whole experience – Arianna is one of them.

We will definitely be back and recommend to our friends.

We started with appetizer and drinks. Appetizer was great but I sent my espresso martini back, it was so bitter and had no sweetness to it. The table next to us sent their steak back and once we got our food I see why. It first took an hour for 2 steaks and seafood mac and cheese. My steak was almost rare. I wanted medium. And like no flavor. I let the waitress know it wasn’t what I liked but I didn’t want to wait on food anymore. The seafood mac n cheese had shrimp with the tails still on and they tasted gritty like they had dirt in them. Our friends were at a different table and all agreed the drinks were either bland or bitter. But for a table of 4 it was almost $300 for the meal. We left really annoyed at the type of food for the price.
And just to be extra annoying the table was so wobbly so when we tried to cut the steaks it literally shook and spilled our waters.

Copano’s lighting has a welcoming and cozy atmosphere, with wood tables, tasteful decor, and a fish tank that adds a classy vibe. We were greeted warmly, and the server came to our table promptly. However, I was disappointed that our server did not return after delivering our food to check if everything was satisfactory or to see if my steak was cooked correctly—it wasn’t. The only time the server approached us again was to ask if we wanted dessert, and there was a lack of eye contact from all the staff.

The restaurant employs a food runner who didn’t engage with us; he seemed to deliver the plates and vanish as quickly as a ninja.

I ordered the ribeye with tallow butter, and I highly recommend it—the steak was tasty and incredibly tender, although it was slightly undercooked despite my specific instructions. My husband ordered the salmon, which he found to be tasty, but was disappointed by the smaller-than-expected portion. He also didn’t like that the bacon-wrapped green beans as a side were quite small. I shared my broccolini with him, and he enjoyed the potato purée; while my potatoes were a bit different, both were delicious.

I did not realize before ordering that the fine steak I requested would come served on top of the potatoes. A juicy and high-end steak should never sit on a bed of potatoes; the plate also had a beet puree spread across it, just for decoration. I prefer my steak served simply, accompanied only by its tallow butter. The beet, vegetable side, and potatoes altered the flavor of each food, so I recommend requesting your steak be served separately.

The fresh fruit cheesecake did not disappoint; it was delicious! However, while my husband enjoyed his key lime brûlée, he found it too sweet and again noted its small size with a laugh.

We enjoyed a nice meal, 6 oysters on the half shell as appetizers, a well prepared, grilled pork chop topped with peanut sauce (didn’t like the combination), a very good creme brulee for dessert.
Tip included (since we had a larger group) our 2 person total was $150. We did not order any alcoholic drinks.
The service was very good, decor was well done.

Truly a gem. The appetizers came out in short order, but didn’t taste processed or frozen. They were savory, though not enough to share in a group. The main courses were all on point and worth every penny.

We thoroughly enjoyed Copano’s!

The menu offered a wonderful selection and all in our group enjoyed the appetizers and entrees. We were impressed by the staff and the welcoming atmosphere created by the patrons. Copano’s is truly a wonderful place to have an excellent meal.

We will be back every time we are in Rockport.

Our family has been Rockport regulars for more than 25 years. Over the years fine dining restaurants have been limited to less than a handful. However, our two most recent experiences at Copanos have been “over the top” . Several weeks ago, my Prime Rib roast was simply the best I have ever experienced. Tonight’s blackened black drum was the best. Portions are more than adequate and the service is unparalleled. Copanos is by far our choice for fine dining in Rockport.

Rockport has so much to offer, including this outstanding restaurant downtown! Everything on the menu was unique, covering seafood to comfort food, all while maintaining a classy experience. Cocktails were made with premium labels and the menu’s signature section featured drinks covering every taste preference. For an appetizer, the deviled eggs stood out to us by featuring shrimp and crab as garnish, which sounded extremely unique. Every course after that was outstanding and we couldn’t recommend 495 enough to anyone traveling or passing by. A big thank you to our Devin for the great menu recommendations and thank you to the kitchen staff for preparing us an outstanding dinner!
