I ended up making a little bit of exception of what I ate yesterday I ordered the short rib grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup. I really did enjoy the grilled cheese sandwich, but I thought the soup was just OK. We used to belong to the wine club, but it was very unfortunate because we felt that the wine was very pricey, overrated, and most of it we didn’t care for. We kept trying and trying, but then we had to finally cancel the wine club.. they do have some fun stuff for gifts if anybody is interested and they have an amazing steak salad.
I WOULD RECOMMEND
My husband and I enjoy dining in the bar for a casual and fun experience. Jacob was our server and I have wonder why after 3 years of dining monthly, we finally had the best server we’ve ever had. Jacob was friendly, knowledgeable, fun, interactive, and very professional. Definitely 5 stars!
When we received our appetizer and then entree, we couldn’t have been more impressed. We’ve never had a bad meal but this particular meal was exceptional. From the pretzel bread to arancini appetizer to the grilled heirloom pork rib to the perfectly paired Barbara = EXCEPTIONAL!!
Thank you ALL for a perfect evening.
Overall it has consistently delivered good value for the price. Most significantly it has a very exhaustive wine list at a much more reasonable price than most restaurants. An additional fun fact is that if you ask, the red wine will be served in a nice festive decanter at your table-side which makes for a memorable evening and this is at no extra charge!
The menu items have not changed much over the years but they always deliver good value. There are at least two all vegetarian dishes (bruschetta and brussel sprouts) and several other items.
The dinner menu has meat and fish dishes and a couple of specifically vegetarian pasta dishes.
Their surf and turf menu delivers great value – a hearty two protein meal served with potatoes and a decent portion of vegetables.
Service has always been excellent. Be aware that the wait staff is trained to sell you wine club membership when you sit down (monthly fee for 1, 2 or 3 bottles per month that comes with free wine tastings) but they won’t bother you if you let them know you don’t want it. (We had it earlier for a couple of years, then stopped).
It is also a great place for brunch. In Scottsdale there is an outside patio area with heaters overhead heaters if it gets too cool – just a wonderful way to spend an evening with wine and good food.
They can be extremely busy and to enter you have to go through a hoppingly lively bar area, where people are clearly having a lot of fun. I would probably never go with having reservations ahead even on week days – I imagine it might be impossible to get in.
Overall a very good value, great vibe, and a place definitely to go to, specially if you like to try different wines!
What really pushed me to leave this review, though, was my experience today. I drove an hour to pick up my wine club bottle, only to get home and realize I’d been given the wrong one. When I called, I got a short apology and was told, “Bring it back, and we’ll exchange it.” That’s frustrating — especially since this is my very first month in the wine club. It would’ve gone a lot smoother if the woman checking me out had shown even a bit of kindness or engagement, but she didn’t even make eye contact. Now I have to drive nearly two hours round trip just to fix a mistake that wasn’t mine, all for a $20 bottle of wine. Really disappointing experience overall.
