Cookies Country Chicken in Ballard is hands down serving the best fried chicken in the PNW — crispy, perfectly seasoned, juicy on the inside… just pure comfort food perfection. Every bite reminds me why this place has such a loyal following. The real hidden gem, though, is the Pot O’ Gold side: creamy mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and rich gravy all in one bowl of goodness. It’s indulgent in the best way and the perfect pairing with the chicken. Whether you’re a Ballard local or just passing through, this spot is a must-visit for anyone who loves classic, crave-worthy fried chicken done right. Mmmm… already thinking about my next visit!

One of my favorite spots for fried chicken … I love their spice levels ( I go for five stars) and their fries are just as amazing! Always crispy and seasoned. FYI – if your order 5 stars be warned, it is spicy! The restaurant is clean, and the staff is consistently friendly. It can get a bit busy during dinner hours, and parking can be a challenge, but the food is absolutely worth it. Definitely recommend if you’re looking to try a great fried chicken place.

This used to be one of the best chicken sandwiches in Seattle, but now in its new location with the changes they have made it’s one of the worst. Almost everything about the sandwich has changed from the bread, chicken, and the slaw. The chicken used to be a big fat juicy chicken breast, now it’s a flat square chicken patty. The bread easily falls apart and creates a messy eating experience. I always order my chicken with the Habanero Heat and in the past it would always make me sweat. Now the Habanero Heat has no heat at all.
The Cookie’s Country Chicken located at Pioneer Square still has the original ingredients and original chicken. So if you want an amazing chicken sandwich go to Pioneer Square. But I can only imagine the changes will be coming to Pioneer Square eventually.

The fries are very tasty. But chicken is just so so. Need to order extra sauce to dip. Otherwise don’t have flavor. Especially we ask for spicy, but I don’t taste it too.

Honestly, this review is pretty biased, because I grew up eating chicken tenders and never ate bone in chicken until college. I tried their tenders with their honey mustard sauce, which I would give an 8/10. But the thigh and drumstick? 4/10 – my biggest gripe is that the chicken itself was way too salty, or whatever brine they use. So realistically, the majority of their sauces are off the table because they’re savory. You just can’t slap too much salt all together or your tongue explodes (not in a positive sense)

Walking in you know this is a legit chicken shack. Big juicy tenders, nice crisp breading. Don’t pass on the mashed potatoes and gravy…it’s legit and make the Colonel wish this was his recipe.
I’m full after two tenders, they are big!

Hey, you! Yeah, you! Scroll back up, click on their order link, and get yourself a damn good chicken sandwich. You don’t need to read anymore reviews, just trust me, okay? Go get a side, any of their chicken options, and have a wonderful evening. My night was quite good and my country chicken craving was certainly satiated- thanks to Cookies.
We got a mix of thighs and drumsticks, a hot sandwich, the mac and cheese, and a pot o’ gold. The sandwich was just pure spicy goodness all around and the slaw/pickle situation was fresh and crisp. The mac was sooooo good- my mom used to make it similar and it scratched the itch. Those little corns swimming in that gravy and mash truly didn’t have any business being that yummy either. My husband got more food than he could eat in one meal, but he air-fried the remaining thighs/drums the next day and it was just as delicious.
Ready, set, go get some chicken!
P. S. while you’re there- stop into HMart for a Ramune or an Asahi for an even better all around meal.

In town for work and just happened to pass this establishment on the way to the library decided to give it a try. What a wonderful find as the food was excellent. Fries are crispy and the chicken is seasoned to perfection. There sides could use some improvement, but hey who really goes to a place for the sides….. Well worth the visit if in the area

Good: The chicken was super juicy and delicious! I really liked the Cole slaw
Not so good: They didn’t have corn so several sides were not available 🙁
Other notes: My personal preference is for crispier fried chicken/a thicker coating than what Cookie’s does which is on the thinner/lighter side.

This was genuinely one of the worst meals I’ve ever had.
Everything was bland and flavorless. The chicken was dry and not tasty at all. The chicken bites were hella dry, the sandwiches were bad, and the fries were not good. The mac and cheese tasted like nothing.
I know this sounds angry, but it’s honestly insane. I have never tasted food this bad before. Every single item was burnt and somehow each one was worse than the last.
The sauces were mid and came out super late. Even the Coke tasted weird. We did not even finish half the food and ended up giving the rest to the homeless. They also did not give us plates.
Not worth the money or the wait. I will not be back.
