Cong and Go features a menu that strictly refuses to use MSG, no cheapy prepackaged ingredients. How often do you see that?
Tia, the Exc. Chef and Owner here oversees the prep and production of everything on the menu. Oh speaking of which the menu seasonally rotates as well!
The Recipes are in-house traditional followings, even for their Hearty Cambodian Kaw, she does not skimp. It’s more meat, and flavor than there is soup. You’ll taste the flavors and herbs, and it’s not watered down or overly sweet.
You’ll be pleased and full enough for the drive home.
The grilled beef satay. How should I say this. No sauce needed. It’s perfect even for just 3 skewers it’s actually a lot of actual beef, not fat on a stick..
She also make her own in-house drinks , incident non caffeinated or non boba drinks in house. They come in cute little soda can type cups so if you take it on the road it won’t spill.
Disclaimer: Please be aware, this is a Cambodian restaurant. There may be items , flavors or names similar to Thai or Laotian or Vietnamese cuisine. But they are not 1 in the same.
There’s different formulation and balance in Cambodian cuisine that is already hard enough to find in California outside of Long Beach. If you’re not sure, please see the chef with proper questions, not assumptions. She can help you understand the differences more in a way that Google or GPT cannot.
Everything was so good! The papaya salad reminded me of home, Fresno! I grew up eating Loa Papaya salad so this gave me nostalgia. Definitely going back.
We bought an overpriced box of donuts that were undercooked. When we brought them back, staff took the box to the back and we personally saw their hands going to their mouths, making it clear they were eating the donuts. The box was then returned to us, which is a serious sanitation issue.
When we asked for a refund, the owner refused. We were given the box back instead. When we later opened it, only one donut was uneaten. If there were originally nine donuts, what happened to the rest?
Instead of addressing the issue, the owner responds to Yelp reviews by calling customers liars and changing the story. A refund was never offered — if it had been, we would not have left with a box of eaten donuts.
Between the sanitation concerns, missing food, refusal to refund, and hostile public responses, this experience was unacceptable. The business owner claims we did not have this interaction on Yelp but my photo of eaten undercooked doughnuts begs to differ. If there’s only one whole doughnut in my photo on yelp then I would like an answer to where they went if they weren’t eaten? As a lifetime local I would never recommend this restaurant. Never have I witnessed a restaurant treat people this way. I never write reviews so that should say a lot in itself, not only will they treat you terribly they will call you a liar when unfair actions are called out.
I had the Cambodian dry noodles and the iced Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk. The noodles came with a variety of protein and was seasoned very well. The noodles were “dry”, but very plump and well cooked. The coffee was perfect… a little bit of bitterness of coffee mixed with the sweetness of condensed milk.
I’ll definitely be back!
On my first visit I had the beef pho. Sooo good ! The broth was really delicious. I am a little sad knowing that when word of this place gets out, there will likely be a line and a wait. For now, I am enjoying it.
I also had the mango salad. It just right with that light tangy dressing. I like that there are 2 sizes to several items (bahn mi, soups, salads, drinks) so it is easier to pair them and try new things.
My second visit was last night and I had the beef bahn mi. The bread is baked there and the sandwich was especially delicious with the red curry soup I enjoyed with it. That red curry soup stayed with me in a wonderful way. It had the perfect spice for me, a little spicier than mild but not quite medium. I spent the rest of the evening thinking of how I might create it at home. Really, you must try this !
Tia, the chef, came out to my table asking how everything was. She told me she had been to culinary school and the chef at several restaurants in Carmel before opening her own place with her family. This explains why the food is so good.
Dessert: Since I read the reviews I was intent on trying the mochi donuts. They are made to order. I ordered 3 thinking I could have one for dessert and take the rest home. I ordered 3 different donuts and my order came with 4 as the chef, Tia, said I should try the Churro donut. How generous. I ate several bites out of each one; they were still warm and so tasty, and took the rest to go. The donuts did not make it home. I had to pull over into the parking lot of Home Depot to finish them off. When I went to bed that night on my first visit I wondered how I managed to eat a large bowl of pho, mango salad, and 4 donuts for dinner. I suffered no indigestion as one might imagine. I am sure it was because all the food was made with love. That was obvious.
