I had been wanting to come here and I’m so glad that I finally made it! I was expecting the food to be good, but it still blew me away. The flavors of both the dishes and the cocktails were perfectly balanced and very interesting and compelling.

The biscuits were insanely flaky, the collard greens were soft but with a bit of bite, and the chicken wings had a crisp outside but were super juicy inside.

The service was also impeccable. Our host and waiter were both friendly, conversational, and approachable, but the service itself felt like a fine dining experience.

Honestly, I was blown away with all aspects and plan to return soon!

This is one of those exceptional places that make you want to try everything and once you try everything you want everything again.

If soul food is supposed to nourish you soul, you will have you soul and taste buds having a spiritual awakening.

Chef Brown deserves all the cult following and Damien is exceptional as a host and a real bar wizard.

Reserve, as the place is popular and busy. Expect great things, you will not be disappointed.

I personally would take a flight half way around the world to eat here.

Everything was excellent—every dish was gorgeous and balanced, the pacing was great, the vibes were lovely. More spots like this in Seattle please!
Do not miss the clams and mussels, the hoe cakes, the deviled eggs, the chicken, the pork chop, the Mac and cheese, and do stay for dessert.

Great ambiance—intimate, stylish, and perfect for a nice night out. The food was good once it arrived, though the wait was longer than expected. My rum punch was excellent and easily the standout drink of the night.

At this price point, complimentary bread would’ve been appreciated. We ordered the hoecakes instead, but they were a bit dry, lukewarm, and lightly dressed—some warm flavored butter would’ve helped. A couple of people in our group found the wings and collard greens slightly salty.

Dinner for four came out to about $280, so definitely come prepared. Overall, solid food, great drinks, and a nice vibe—just a few refinements away from five stars.

Communion in Seattle is a revelation. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by an energy that’s warm, vibrant, and alive. It’s the kind of restaurant where the buzz of conversation feels as essential as the menu itself.

But let’s talk about the food…because wow! Communion doesn’t just serve dishes, it animates them. Fresh, beautifully composed, and delightfully bold. There’s a sense of spirit and creativity in every bite, whether you’re diving into a perfectly seasoned entrée or savoring a dessert that feels like its own grand finale.

Communion Bar & Grill has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a menu that captures the heart of Southern comfort food in the Central District of Seattle.

The biscuits were my absolute favorite, fluffy, buttery, and easily the highlight of the meal. The collard greens had great flavor, though I do wish they included a bit more meat for that traditional Southern depth. The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and definitely a must-order side dish.

The cocktails were strong (they pour heavy here!), which many guests will appreciate. The chef personally came by to greet us, which added a thoughtful and genuine touch to the experience.

Overall, Communion Seattle delivers bold flavors and true Southern hospitality. I’d recommend it for anyone looking for comfort food in Seattle with a lively bar vibe and strong drinks.

Communion Restaurant and Bar has a very warm and lively atmosphere.
We had a great time with friends. The service and food were good. We loved the shrimp toast and mussels and clams. The mussels had a delicious sauce. The unc’s wings and grilled okra were very well made.
The mac&cheese was cheesy and creamy but didn’t have too much flavor. The butter basted cabbage was the only let down.

Overall, we will definitely come back again.

Had a few really great visits in the last year. Their pork chop, Berber chicken and cornbread were amazing.

On the latest visit we were craving the old menu.

Couldn’t order cornbread as a side.. why not??

The BBQ chicken was pretty good.

The new fried pork chop was decent (but the old one was better).

The Laotian dumplings were meh (the sauce was tasty but the consistency was just too soft/mushy for such large dumplings).

The pound cake was delicious (not too lemony). I don’t have a sweet tooth but would happily get that again.

I don’t say this often, but this spot is one of my new faves. Pro tip, make a reservation. I love that they change up the menu and use local vendors. We got the deviled eggs. So decadent. We got the clams with Laos sausage, one of my must eats. We got blackened salmon special which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. And we got the jerk chicken with magical ranch. The mac and cheese and the okra were chefs kiss. It was so dang good. I have a less common Asian name and they said my name correctly and I can’t tell you how much that warms my heart. The staff was personable, friendly and made us feel so welcome. Communion is officially on my food rotation list.

The food was delicious, however, our selections were very limited. They do not offer a wide selection of entrees and 3 entrees out of 5 were not available . We ordered the roasted chicken, greens, and ho cakes. The food is seasoned and flavorful, greens were the best I have tasted. The chicken was good but was a little tough, it was not falling off the bone you needed a knife to cut it off the bone.
The service was not good! Our waitress was nice but very nonchalant. In fact we had to ask about dessert options because she did not offer the options for desserts. A lady from the kitchen walked around to inquire at several tables(in fact one right beside ours) she did not acknowledge us at all and we are visitingfrom Houston, TX. Lastly, if you are a rice eater, they do not cook rice…at least that is what our waitress told us. Overall, we enjoyed our food.
