This time, however, the experience was very different. I ordered the jalapeño ranch fries and one of their red lagers, just like I had during my previous visit. After ordering, I was given a table number and told my drink would be brought out to me.
After waiting about 35 minutes, I finally got up and walked inside to see what was going on. A gentleman brought my fries out shortly after, and I mentioned that the beer was also supposed to be brought to my table when I first sat down. He said he would grab one for me.
Waiting that long for a beer and fries seemed a bit excessive. Unfortunately, when the fries arrived, all the toppings were sitting at the bottom with just a pile of plain fries on top, which was disappointing compared to my first visit.
I know restaurants can have off days, but this visit just didn’t live up to the great experience I had the first time. I’m gonna give it another try since it is great atmosphere the Smashburger I had the first time was delicious or maybe it was just an off night then I’ll update my review.
The veggies in the salad didn’t taste all too fresh, and the fried chicken wasn’t great either. Good stop on a road trip!
Smashburger was good. Pickles are top notch and also fries are really well done. It’s a nice medium between In-n-Out and McDonald’s.
Beer selection is really really solid. Whoever is ordering the beer, keep doing it. Dark Horse is my hometowns most popular beer so it was nice seeing it here too. Also one of 5 spots in all of Modesto that carry Russian River and Fieldwork beers on tap and to-go.
Parking was kind of a joke even at 1 p.m. on a Thursday. But circle the block a couple times you’ll find something.
Will recommend widely. Menu posted date (5/1/25)
You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. The servers are very nice and the entire staff seems pretty happy. We were very comfortable there. The place is super clean, including the bathrooms.
It is not large, but I bet it can get crowded. It was not when we were there for lunch. Their craft beer is excellent, but what we really wanted was a decent lunch. We were able to get that at Commonwealth.
It is not the very best in Modesto as far as lunch, but if you want craft beer and lunch this is the place you need to be. All of the food we had was very good. We had burgers that were cooked right and nice and juicy. We also had a variety of tacos. We really liked the chicken tacos.
The prices are fair.
Their garlic fries are super good. We also loved their onion rings which they make there. The batter is wonderful.
We were very happy. Have the best time.
