Food:
Drink: Pepsi no ice. With a straw.
Mozzarella cheese triangles with Marinara: 5 were given. 3 of them really hot but able to chew with a good cheese pull. Marinara sauce nice. The bread nice. 2 were lacking the cheese. Or at least there was very little cheese and mostly the bread.
Omelette: Egg whites with spinach, pepper, onion, mozzarella cheese (light). Very good. Very filling. Had it with the white toast (they added a little butter to the toast.). I added black pepper on top.
White toast: good. Gave a side of French fries.
I didn’t think it would be this filling so packed the rest and took home with me.

Service:
Very quick to helping to a booth. The woman who helped with taking the order, giving the food was very attentive, observant, and had a nice tone. I unfortunately didn’t ask for her name. But I thought it interesting she said love at the end of every sentence to anyone she spoke to. I mean in many movies I saw people do that but never in real life so yeah. Another man who works there also came and asked if everything is going well.

Atmosphere:
The booth I sat gave a private atmosphere. The setup and layout around is similar. There was a nice and cozy atmosphere. Was also warm inside. Which was nice because it started to snow drizzle outside.

Overall, I am glad I came here. I used to pass this diner often but I would always think no maybe it is not for me or maybe I will try next time and postpone it. I will definitely come back again but also bring some friends with me.

The owner manager and wait staff are exemplary and kind.
Great breakfast options, we had their Pumpkin Spice Pancakes and country fresh sausage. Great Lakas coffee and it was a home run.
Great atmosphere and customer service!

So when you’re in the area or dropping your vehicle off at Safelite for a windshield repair take a quick walk or Lyft right down the highway for a nice breakfast or lunch. Super friendly staff!

I went here around lunch rush, and it was pretty good. The service was rather great; the waiter was very helpful and told us what most people like there, and the wait was only around 20 minutes, which is rather nice given how busy it was. There are plenty of options on the menu, both food and drinks, and what I had was rather good; I believe the breakfast meal I got was called “a little bit of everything” which came at a moderate price and was really good. One thing in particular that stood out to me were the fries; they were really good compared to the fries at other places I’ve been to. The appearance of the place is rather nice as well; there’s a whole area near the front where baking goods are served, and I personally like the design a lot.

A Must-Visit Jersey Classic!

If you’re looking for a top-tier breakfast experience in East Brunswick, look no further than Colonial Diner. I had an absolutely fantastic meal here and can’t recommend it enough.

The Food

Everything we ordered was spot on:
• Pancakes: Fluffy, golden, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
• Omelette: Perfectly cooked and packed with flavor.
• Home Fries: Crispy on the outside and seasoned just right—exactly how a diner should do them!
Why It Stands Out

• Service: The customer service was excellent. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and well-taken care of.

• Value: The portion sizes are generous, especially considering the very reasonable prices. You definitely won’t leave hungry!

• Atmosphere: The restaurant is clean, well-maintained, and has a great overall ambience that makes for a comfortable dining experience.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. It’s easily one of the best spots in town!

I had a wonderful brunch at this restaurant!
The food was absolutely fantastic, with a diverse menu covering both American and Mexican cuisine. They also serve delicious desserts that are well worth saving room for.
One helpful tip: if you’re on a tight schedule, I’d recommend arriving a bit early. The kitchen takes time to prepare each dish properly, which speaks to their commitment to quality, but it does mean there can be a wait during busy times.
Overall, it’s a great spot with excellent food and good variety.
Just plan accordingly if you need your meal at a specific time!

Here today 6/13/25 for early dinner. We were seated with Justin and he was a great server! Professional, kind and paid attention to us and checked in often. We had pork cutlet and fried chicken. We both had a salad and we really enjoyed our meal. The pork came with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. The chicken came with fries and Cole slaw. It was a lot of food and it was all hot and fresh. I was impressed. Very reasonable prices for the quality and the restaurant was very clean and bright! It was also BYOB which was a bonus for sure. I will return as they had a large menu including breakfast all day.

Last night, I went to Colonial Diner for a nice dinner with a few friends. I loved the vintage vibe of the diner that resonated with what a true classic diner looks like. The neon signage and arches and awnings and much more on the exterior provided that inviting diner feel and was nice. On the interior, the flooring and booth seating was classic diner styling and the lighting was nice and bright and inviting for customers. We were greeted as soon as we came in and were given the option to choose whatever style seating we wanted, which was nice, since some other diners would choose the seating for us despite the place having all kinds of open spots. We ordered a chicken wrap, chicken quesadillas, french fries, french onion soup, and a vanilla milkshake, along with a slice of their oreo cake with vanilla ice cream.

The food was great! They had many menu options for all types of diets and the chicken quesadillas were particularly delicious. the presentation of the vanilla milkshakes was great and the french fries were delicious. The french onion soup was presented well and tested great as well. The oreo cake with the vanilla ice cream was a fantastic combination and tasted amazing, the cake was not stale and provided good flavors.

The service from our waiter was great and prompt. It was close to closing time so we don’t know if it was because of that or if it’s the same when it’s packed but it was great either way.

Overall, great experience with good food if you’re looking for that classic diner feel!

Great Saturday Breakfast Spot!
I came in for Saturday breakfast and ordered the pork chop, which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables—it was delicious! The others in my group ordered breakfast dishes, and everything came out great. The food was fresh, tasty, and well-prepared. A perfect way to start the weekend!

visited Colonial Diner in East Brunswick on a today morning around 10:30 AM. Located at 560 NJ-18, the diner is easy to spot with its retro signage and accessible parking lot, which had plenty of open spots despite the busy time. The parking lot was right in front of the diner, making it very convenient for customers to park and enter. Even though it was close to the weekend breakfast rush hour, I didn’t have any trouble finding a space. When I walked in, the atmosphere felt very casual and comfortable. The diner was clean and bright, with many customers already seated, including families, couples, and groups of friends chatting and enjoying their food. I was seated within five minutes of walking in, which was impressive given how many booths were filled with people. The server quickly came over with a friendly attitude, handed me a laminated menu, and told me the specials of the day in a clear and welcoming tone. I ordered a ham and vegetable omelet with hash browns, which cost about $12.95. The portion size was generous, and the food was fresh and tasty. The price was reasonable for the quality and amount of food I received.

Colonial Diner in East Brunswick transcends the typical diner experience, serving dishes with refinement, heart, and a sense of place. Among its standouts, the Santa Monica Burger rises above as a culinary bridge between California’s light, fresh ethos and New Jersey’s love for robust, satisfying fare.

Ambiance & Service

Colonial Diner is warm yet elevated, combining the classic diner hum with attentive, polished service. Water glasses are refreshed without hesitation, and the staff’s energy conveys genuine pride in what they serve. It’s hospitality in its purest form—casual but thoughtful, creating the perfect canvas for standout dishes.

The Dishes

1. The Santa Monica Burger
Minimalism meets mastery. The foundation: a thick, juicy beef patty seared to perfection, its flavor both bold and unpretentious. On top, layers of grilled onions bring a smoky sweetness that melds seamlessly with the velvety richness of avocado, while fresh spinach leaves add a delicate green bite—crisp, earthy, and unmistakably California. All encased in a bun that balances structure with softness, this burger is a study in freshness, texture, and balance.

It’s not overloaded with toppings; instead, every element has a purpose. Each bite delivers contrast—crunch and cream, smoke and freshness, heft and lightness. This is not just a burger; it’s an ode to restraint and clarity of flavor.

2. The Breakfast Sandwich with Hash Browns
The essence of comfort elevated: bacon, egg, and cheese layered inside a golden roll. The egg is tender, the cheddar molten, the bacon crisp yet yielding. Served with shredded hash browns fried to golden crispness, this dish speaks to the soul of the American breakfast.

3. The Omelette Plate
Generous in portion yet delicate in texture, the omelette carries its fillings with grace. A perfectly browned sausage completes the plate, creating a morning staple that feels both rustic and refined.

Beverages

The fresh orange juice bursts with sunshine—clean, bright, and palate-cleansing. Paired with robust coffee, these beverages root the dining experience in diner tradition while offering the freshness and vitality that match the Santa Monica Burger’s spirit.

Verdict

Colonial Diner proves that brilliance often lies in simplicity done right. The Santa Monica Burger, with its thoughtful interplay of spinach, avocado, grilled onion, and beef, is an elevated yet approachable creation—a reflection of the West Coast lifestyle delivered with East Coast heart,
Fresh, balanced, and unforgettable—a diner
