We visited the Collegiate Grill for the first time, but it won’t be our last. The menu is limited to hamburgers, hotdogs, hand cut fries, onion rings, milkshakes, and a grilled cheese or chicken sandwich. However, the choices for those items are limitless! Our group sampled all of it, and everything was delicious. The hand cut fries alone are worth the trip. Prices are very reasonable. It’s a great place for a quick and delicious lunch. Parking is easy as there is a large, free, parking garage right across the street. If you’re in Gainesville go grab a bite at the Collegiate Grill. You won’t regret it.

One of the best burger spots in Gainesville. The meat seems to be fresh and not process. It has so much flavor that I typically eat there at least once a week.

Classic American diner that has been in business since 1947. Went here for lunch with a friend a few days ago. I was impressed with the modern/1950’s atmosphere inside. There were also old Gainesville High School sports memorabilia on the walls which was pretty unique. I ordered their special of the day which was a “Texas” burger that contained a single beef patty with cheese, 2 fried onion rings, and some bbq sauce. It also came with fries and a drink. My friend had a simple bacon double cheeseburger along with a milkshake. I also added a cheese dog to try. Both of our burgers were delicious with the meat being juicy. Fries were cooked to perfection. The milkshake was old fashioned in appearance, but was great nonetheless. Overall, the food and service was great in this retro/modern diner that is definitely a Gainesville classic!

This is a great old nestalgic place with usually good food and service. Today … the sweet tea tasted like mold … I ordered a chili cheese dog and the cheese (slice) wasn’t even melted … I asked if I could swap out my tea and she just told me to dump it in the drain tray under the cokes… so I did but then I just walked out. 🙁
Really disappointed

Since the new owners are gone and they are new ones now, the food is not the same. Last time I went I got a hamburger with slaw and onions ketchup mustard pickles, or that is what I ordered My hamburger didn’t have any slaw on it but it had pickles and onions. The fries were crispy not normal homemade fries. My husband’s hamburger was okay. I have ordered again this is my second time since the new changeover and once again the french fries are definitely not the same they are overcooked and very crispy. My hamburger which was supposed to have slaw onions ketchup mustard pickles has a lot of onions like a half a teaspoon of slaw and ketchup mustard pickles. I’m not sure who is ever cooking understands that here in the south we love our slaw and if we’re going to pay for it we should at least get enough on it to taste. Not eager to go back. We’ve always loved going to collegiate grill but it has changed. It also seems the price is have went up too.

After tax and tip, one cheeseburger and a shake ran me a little over $20. Which at a nicer restaurant would be understandable, but at this hole in the wall burger joint, I was expecting to walk out for less than $15. The wait was also much longer than I’d anticipated. However, their saving grace is that they have some unique options and their food is quite good.

All in all, I don’t regret stopping here for lunch, but I don’t think I’ll be back again.

Collegiate Grill, how I love your chili slaw dogs! The soft grilled bun with crispy edges, the crunchy slaw and salty chili and a perfectly grilled dog is just a treat.

I also adore your fries. Not the standard crinkle cut for you, no, these are delicious fries with a little skin on – with ketchup, Awesome with a capital A!

We usually grab our food to go or eat it one of the lovely little tables right outside but I love the makeover too, y’all!! Your diner looks beautiful.

Thanks for doing what it takes to be a local favorite!

This 1950’s diner in Gainesville is the real deal. It’s a better burger than any chain at twice, three times the price. They are only open for lunch. The service is fast and accurate. I’ll try the shake next time.

Lunch at the Collegiate Grill in Downtown Gainesville today was positively delicious.

I don’t usually rave about a hamburger, but the bacon cheeseburger was “great,” as USA Today opined! A juicy, yummy concoction where the bun didn’t disintegrate through the entirer experience is something worthy of worship! I give the burger 5 stars.

On a Saturday, the wait for a table was about 15 minutes, a lot to do with the spacing of tables to deal with the pandemic. Service was good and tables socially distanced.

The housemade fries were fresh, hot and tasty! We shared a large order and it was quite enough for two. 4 stars!

I ordered the orange milkshake and, to be honest, my dining companion’s strawberry shake tasted better. His gets 5 stars and mine gets 3. ☺️

The sports-related bulletin boards were interesting, if you’re into that sort of thing … which I’m not.

That burger, though, is definitely worth going back for, so all is forgiven!

*Get the cheeseburger with everything.
*And make it a five-hat event: Get the fries and the STRAWBERRY shake!
And heads up: Don’t expect a plate. They don’t do plates!
