Really enjoyed Cocorico! Cozy place, good food, and friendly service. Everything we ordered tasted great, and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Definitely a nice spot to eat in Ashland.

UPDATE: As a local, we value is that their menu changes with each season. They have staple dishes of course, but they add new and different versions of their appetizers, salads, and of course they offer daily specials. And their service continues to be stellar.

I also realize that I did not mention wines in my past review. We have found that their wine selection is also quite good, and the staff is great at helping to pair the wines with our dishes.

Lastly, I was surprised that Cocorico does not have at least a 4.9 if not a 5.0 collective review. I read some of the negative reviews. Know that all of them are from years ago when they were just opening and finding their feet. They have definitely found their feet!

This is one of a few restaurants in Ashland that deserves to be considered outstanding and charge the prices they do.

We love Cocorico! We’ve been going there since the day it opened, and even before that when it was at the Green Springs Lodge. The service here is fantastic. The food always creative and tasteful — excellent all around! You’ll need a reservation. The place is hoppin’!

Man, we had the best dinner yet at Cocorico, closest to a 5 star review they have come.

The staff were amazing and on arrival you could feel the passion they had for their restaurant. The owner should give the lady seating guests a raise because she greeted us like we were her best friends and she had held onto the best table in the house for us! We were instantly stoked. The wait staff were also highly attentive and made us feel served in every sense.

Tonight the stars of the show were the cocktails and starters. Amazing drinks came out with depth of flavor. I had my usual oaxaca old fashioned, and let my non-existent hair down with another Royale Aviation cocktail. Amazing construction, colors, and flavors that felt like a journey. The grilled octopus starter was a slam dunk. The mildly charred octopus was up-showed by the amazing bed of pinto beans that added a deep savory flavor with a delicious acidic tang at the end of each bite. The burrata also played games using texture with your palate, juxtaposing the rich soft cheese with the crunch of spiced apple bits and candied pecans. What a course!

For my main I had the sole market fish, which was a marvelous braid-work of various flavors and textures. A delicate filet with a delicious crust, draped over creamy kohlrabi puree, yellow rice, crunchy parsnip, and even a tangy pickled fennel. Now the only weak spot of the meal was the chickpea tagine. You could tell the chef’s aim was to contrast the intense salty halloumi patty with a more modestly seasoned bed of chickpea and rice. However, the chickpea and rice felt like a total void and ratio of halloumi cheese to the rest of these flavorless items was totally off. If you scroll through my older photos, you will see this same dish bathing in a rich red sauce, which was sorely missed. The disappointment was real, because this was the entree my wife was craving that inspired our reservation.

Overall, a great meal. Really strong construction of flavors in almost every dish, and definitely in the cocktails. This is a spot to try and try again. You can tell what they’re doing is working, because I keep coming back for more.

The appetizer was just the right size and it was nice and light. The main dish was excellent, although the portion was on the larger side. Would have liked to try some dessert, but I was too full by then. The cookbooks are fun to browse.

Where do I start.
The service was amazing.
Ben, who has been working in the same location for 25 years (2yrs at Cocorico) was super knowledgeable and very friendly.

We happened to get “the best table” in the restaurant.

Come for the service, stay for the food.

The olives, the deviled eggs, and the Caprese salad started us off great.

We ended up with three entrees because why not.
Steelhead takes the cake.

Speaking of cake our dessert was crème brûlée, which was also amazing.

If you come to Ashland. Make sure to come to Cocorico.

Great food, staff, service, pricing compared to other restaurants, and portions!

To be clear on portions… I came in STARVING as someone who lifts and runs multiple times a week… and left sooo full (in a good way!) 🙂 Couldn’t recommend this place more. We came for Valentines day and got apps, mocktails, entrees, and dessert and didn’t break $150. Great meal. Ben was a great and kind server, too!

Awesome small local eatery with amazing food options. Recommend reservations as it books up quick, we got lucky for open bar seating as soon as it opened. Ordered 3 meals and split family style. Fresh flowers and beautiful outdoor seating. Worth it!

We had the deviled eggs (mid), octopus (over cooked and not worth $24 for one small piece), and garlic bread (good!) Our cocktails were delicious. We had the duck and really enjoyed it, but the lamb was a bit bland. (I had to salt it, and I never have to salt food) Our server and service was great. Next time in Ashland we’ll try MAS. 4 stars based on duck and service, otherwise 3.
