The restaurant was very busy, and the tables were positioned quite closely together. Toward the end of the meal, the experience felt rushed. Staff attempted to clear my plate at 4:45 despite me not having finished, and I was reminded that the table was required back at 5:15. Shortly after, the bill was placed on the table without any offer of dessert or additional drinks, which made the ending feel abrupt and unwelcoming.
I do understand that the restaurant is small and operates on tight schedules, particularly during busy periods. However, when spending £144 on a meal, it would be reasonable to expect a more relaxed and considerate dining experience rather than feeling pressured to leave.
On a positive note, the cocktails and pints were excellent, and the steak, despite being overcooked, was still of good quality. With better communication around table times and a less rushed approach to service, this restaurant could offer a much more enjoyable experience.
My partner had the haggis bon bons and really liked then.
Ordered the chateaubriand to share which was really disappointing. The steak was really dry, it came with potatoes (3 halves each), veg, was supposed to be macaroni & cheese (but was cauliflower and cheese without saying) and a Yorkshire pudding. Everything lacked any seasoning and was bland. For spending £91 on just the steak I was expecting a lot better than it was.
Waited an hour to get our main meal and for spending a total of £110, with only a couple of soft drinks, for 2 people wasn’t the meal I was expected.
For the main course, we had the Sunday roast and the butchers burger, accompanied by beer-battered onion rings and macaroni with crispy onions (of-course ) . Each dish was cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor, and left us wanting more.
The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this place. We will definitely be coming back!
