What a fabulous a restaurant. Nestled in the heart of Excelsior with plenty of parking in the back. We were greeted at the door and promptly seated. My girlfriend and I had the orange dream bourbon cocktail, it was delicious. Our starters were:
Korean Tacos, marinated beef, kimchi, sour cream, cilantro, $20.00 $28.50/4
Shrimp Bruschetta on ciabatta, roasted tomato, pesto, pistachio, parmesan $21.00 $25.50/4
Both were delicious! Each appetizer only had 3 of each, but for an upcharge, you get 4. My friend loved them so much if she ordered the korean tacos for her main meal.
I had the Scallops & Shrimp $41.00 and it was so good! It was on a bed of truffle risotto. Hubby had Grilled Filet Mignon, grilled onion, hashbrown cake, white cheddar truffle fondue, asparagus $54.00 he ordered it medium rare and it was cooked too perfection. I would have expected nothing less from this highly anticipated visit and it did not disappoint. Thank you for your service and the excellent food last Thursday night 1-15-26.

A+ from all 4 of us.

I come to Coalition regularly. It is one of my go-to spots to meet people. I’m taking a moment to recognize their amazing happy hour! It’s early but well worth it! Menu has great options that are somewhat different than their regular menu. Prices are reasonable. Their cocktails are great as well! My goal is to try everything but for this visit we had the shrimp tacos, Tuna poke and stuffed piquillo peppers. Favorite was the tuna! Beautiful, fresh and the crispy sushi rice was perfect! The peppers were good though a little messy. Curious as to the choice of presenting them upside down on the toast versus right side up. I’d suggest right side up, with a shred of basil or maybe mint to add color and contrast.
Can’t wait to go back!

Coalition is my favorite restaurant in Excelsior! Food is amazing! Staff is 10/10 (Shannon is my favorite, don’t tell)! Best bar in town! I could go on but I think you get the point!

I liked the idea of the patio seating but the sun at the front along the street would have been in our eyes. However, on our way out we learned there was seating behind the restaurant as well, adjacent to the rear parking lot.

We weren’t extremely hungry, though needed a bite. We split two dishes. An order of the tacos, which I think were Korean, and a medium rare California burger, though I don’t recall what it was called on the menu.

The tacos were fine. I hate cilantro, he hates sour cream, we got all that on the side.

What was especially nice was that our server offered to add an extra taco, to make an even number.

We split our meals out all the time. We have never been offered an extra anything to make things even besides plates. We have also never had a burger cut in half and plated separately!

OH! The hamburger! I can’t stop thinking about it! 2nd best burger of our very long lives. PERFECTLY cooked. The only thing anyone could say against it was that one side was cooked longer than the other.

It was perfectly seasoned and the veg was fresh, cold, crisp and portioned in a perfect balance with the bun and beef, so much so I never knew all the other hamburgers in my life were so second rate.

Also, the Bloody Mary mix was obviously done in house and not purchased elsewhere. Very good. Good amount of horseradish. Not too many garnishments. But the cheese was obviously Tillamook and the pickle seemed to be made in house also 🙂

Coalition is a local restaurant in downtown Excelsior. The food is familiar but with unique twists that make each entree exciting. The restaurant is quaintly situated on the not-to-busy Main Street and surrounded by other shops and restaurants. If the weather is nice, sitting outside lets you soak up the beach-town vibe with a good meal.

I tried both of the burgers on the menu — the Coalition burger as well as the Wagyu burger — and both were an utter and colossal disappointment; a 1/10 for both. First of all, the meat wasn’t seasoned at all — maybe the cook/chef forgot? Second, each of the patties was dry, brittle, and crumbly despite the fact that I had each cooked medium. Days later, I am still in disbelief and even flabbergasted by the one-dimensionality of these burgers. How is this possible at a restaurant with the reputation (and prices!) of Coalition!? What’s saving this review from being a single star was the Basque cheesecake — which was perfection; a 10/10. The carrot cake, however, was less impressive — too dense and too cold; a 6.5/10.

Have eaten there many many times. Great service. Everything on the menu is good, except maybe the chicken wings which I like drier and more well done.

This is a great local stop in Excelsior serving up unique dishes in a small setting. We most recently tried the brunch which had a number of delicious items on the menu. The donut hole appetizers (in place of bread to start) was a fun treat. I also liked their old fashioned.

An acceptable experience; nothing memorable. Food was fine. Service was ok. I do like the ambiance. Would have this as a back up plan if other restaurants in the area are booked out.
