This place reminds me of those places but I feel the customer service here is at the very top notch!! Its located in The Drake at Oakbrook but the attention to the client is similar to that in the iconic site on The Mag Mile.
Ordered the staples at the many tapas restos visited over the years and each item was wonderful and quite filling. Had the croquetas (with chicken & ham), gambas (sizziling shrimp in lime vinaigrette), queso de cabra (goat cheese) and champinoñes (mushrooms). Our server provided bread to dip into the sauces in these tapas.
Lastly, we tried the lobster empanadas and these were perfectly fried and cheesy with nice lobster chucks and flavors.
Will definitely be returning to this place now that I know of this place which is across from my work.
Chicharron de ribeye- 9/10 Great flavor. The ribeye was complimented by the guacamole without overpowering it.
Gambas al ajillo- 10/10 Big shrimps! Loved the garlic sauce!
Pulpo a la parilla- 9/10 The Yukon potatoes were great with the octopus. I would address some shishito peppers or some other pepper to just add a little kick to the dish.
Pulpo a la plancha- 1/10 I would not other this. Better to order the pulpo a la parilla. This dish did not belong. It was just French fries with sliced up octopus mixed in.
Croqueta de pollo y jamon- 9/10 Not greasy. Good flavor. Personally I wanted some hot sauce with it. But I liked it nonetheless.
Mejillones con tomate y vino-0/10 The mussels were NOT fresh. If anything it was spoiled. I thought it was just the one but I gave another piece a try and spit them both out. The smell was terrible. You know the seafood is not good when it smells bad especially before cooking. Not only that, but 1 piece of bread for a big bowl of mussel?DO NOT ORDER.
Lobster Empanadas- 3/10 No lobster meat in the 2 Empanadas I tried. Just cheese.
BBQ Rib Fingers- 7/10 4 5 SMALL pieces. But they were super tender that when you pick it up, it falls right off the bone. The flavor was good.
Brocheta de pollo-6/10 This dish pissed me off. First off I understand its a tapas. But 1 freaking skewer of chicken that was the size of my middle finger for $12? The red onion was phenomenal. Such great balance of flavor of sweet but subtle. The chicken was decent. But the fact that this plate was $12!? At least the other tapas was shareable. This dish was just one bite and that’s it.
Patatas Bravas- 8/10 These were good. Crispy potatoes with the sauce that was bit spicy. Yum!
Paella Mixtas and the Marisco- Both 2/10 Had to wait about 40 mins. Again, both these dishes came out and you can smell the mussels. But giving the benefit of the doubt, I tried the mussels again. It was spoiled and gritty. The rice was okay. The shrimp was good. Clam was eh. The pork was eh. This dish was not worth it.
Mole cheese enchiladas- 3/10 Honestly not the best. The Mole flavor wasn’t really there. Honestly there wasn’t any flavor that was there.
Fish of the day: Red Snapper- 3/10 It was a filet. Fish was just an average tasting fish. I thought the olives would too strong for the dish but it was actually okay. Mash potatoes were just mash potatoes. This dish really didn’t wow me.
For drink I had the prickly pear margarita, sassy senorita, and carajillo.
Prickly Pear Margarita- It was great! Not too sweet. 10/10.
Sassy Senorita-8/10 Mango juice with tajin rim practically. Didn’t really taste the alcohol.
Carajillo- 6/10 Their carajillo was made with tequila. It took the sweetness away from the drink. Asked them to make it without the tequila and just the liquor 43 and espresso and it was much better. But I think they used an espresso liquor rather than an actual espresso.
Desserts-
Platano al Caramelo-10/10 The plantains were so good with the caramel. I think if there was a bit of sea salt on top it would have been even better!
Crema catalana-5/10 It’s just creme brulee.
Churros con canela-6/10 Churros was okay. The chocolate sauce was watery? Not much chocolate flavor in it.
Strawberry cheesecake-4/10 This wasn’t on the menu but it was my boyfriend’s birthday and they brought it out for him. Its just cheesecake with strawberry compote on top. Nothing special.
Service was fine. Atmosphere was fine. But coming here for food, wouldn’t want to come back just for that.
I visited this restaurant a few days ago to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. We ordered a seafood paella, but when it was served, there was a strong unpleasant odor. At first, we thought it might be because we were sitting close to the restroom, but later we discovered that one of the mussels was actually spoiled — the seafood was clearly not fresh.
We informed the staff at the counter, but instead of showing concern, she replied, “Seafood usually smells like that. No one can tell if it’s bad before cooking.” Then she asked, “What do you want me to do? Make another one?”
We politely told her that we just wanted her to be aware of the issue, trusting that she would handle it professionally. However, she simply walked away and continued working as if nothing had happened.
It was a very disappointing experience, especially on a special day for our family. I hope the management takes this seriously, checks the quality of the seafood used, and provides better staff training on how to handle customer feedback properly.
Everything was phenomenal!
Our server Moises made several excellent recommendations and was very knowledgeable about the menu items. The attention he provided was EXEMPLARY! Truly a gentleman and a professional in every sense of the word.
I highly recommend the patatas bravas, the bacon wrapped dates and the pulpo a la parilla was cooked perfectly
For drinks, the Old Fashioned (made with tequila) was exquisite. The red sangria is not too sweet and very flavorful.
Overall – I highly recommend this establishment for their immaculate customer service and the delicious food. We’ll return soon!
