This is an excellent restaurant. It’s almost all in the sauces. We ordered chopped prime tartare. My wife loved it because of the peanut butter chili crunch. The hush puppies had a nice crunch and tasty filling, but the labneh made them sing. The roasted Texas yams were really good and also had a good crunch, but they were amazing because the coconut & lentil cream and the crème fraiche. The fried heirloom fingerling potatoes were wonderful thanks to the ridiculously good spicy romescu and Turkish chili. And the ricotta cavatelli was wonderful thanks to the combo of pecans and pesto. My wife loved the Agnolotti Amatriciana, said it was like comfort food. The dessert, the clementine crunch bar, was amazing. The combo of the mouse, the hazelnuts, the crunch, the clementine, and the sherbet made it one of the best desserts I’ve ever had in a restaurant.

The server was very good. The atmosphere is not great, especially in winter. It’s too bright for a dinner. They don’t have an outer breezeway added for winter so if you’re close to the door it’s way too cold and many dressed warmly, including me, and I was still cold. The chairs are hard metal which sucks. And they don’t take Apple pay which also sucks. It’s pricey, but appropriately priced considering the amazing food.

My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and had a great time. The food was amazing and Angela was a great server. We loved the intimate feel and atmosphere. Definitely recommend you try the scallops and hush puppies.

Excellent food and service, Diego was a great server, attentive and fun.

We had the barramundi, NY strip, whipped feta, white mushroom salad, crème brûlée and crunch bar – everything was delish.

We felt a bit squished since our seats were pretty darn close to the couple next to us but it was still a great experience.

Service was amazing, Memo and staff top notch! Food was good! Love that it is seasonal , that adds a fun experience to it. Some dishes a bit more saltier than I’d prefer but still really good. I think ambiance could match experience and represent a bit more upscale. Overall , had a nice evening.

Clementines is so fun! Well priced food and lovely service. Their dishes are creative and pack a flavorful punch. The beef tartar and beet salads were my favorite appetizers. The hush puppies were perfectly fried and slightly sweet while not being oily at all. My only dig is that 2/3 of my scallops were overcooked. The flavors of the dish were incredible, but a well done scallop just isn’t the vibe! That’s my only flaw. Our server was lovely <3

Date night at Clementine in Castle Hills. We tried the “Feed Me” option where we entrusted the Chef (a 2023 James Beard Finalist for Texas) and his team to create our meal. A fantastic decision that allowed us to try new things that we may not have otherwise tried—all of which tasted great!! Make sure to save room for dessert.

I’ve had Clementine on my radar since last year and was very excited to try it. I booked an 8:45 PM reservation for February 13th to kick off Valentine’s weekend, but unfortunately, the kitchen and the wait time didn’t live up to the reputation. We didn’t receive our food until 9:50 PM—a full hour after our reservation time. The one true highlight of the night was our server. He was excellent, kind, and funny. The atmosphere was completely dominated by a group of four girls in the corner who were incredibly loud and disruptive. They were so loud that we could hear every single word of their conversation, which definitely took away from the dining experience. If I had to describe the meal in one word, it would be unremarkable. While the Smashburger was “fine,” the rest of the meal struggled with basic execution. Both the pasta and the flat iron steak were severely lacking salt. Salt is meant to elevate the surrounding flavors, but without it, the dishes felt flat. The pasta tasted like basic, chunky tomato sauce; the flavors simply weren’t bold enough to carry the dish. A different server kindly warned us the pasta bowl was hot, but it was lukewarm to the touch. By the time I was halfway through, the dish was completely cold. I ordered the flat iron steak medium-rare, but it arrived rare. It was underdone to the point of being chewy and difficult to eat, lacking any of that savory, seared flavor. The pasta dish felt off-balance; I was left with a lot of meat but not enough actual pasta to round out the meal. Clementine brings an eclectic aesthetic, but on this night, it failed to bring the flavor. It’s a shame (really wanted to love Clementine), but I won’t be returning and I advise others to avoid this truly overhyped place.

The food was probably the best upscale restaurant food that I’ve had in San Antonio. This restaurant is worthy of its #2 ranking in the San Antonio Express. The sauces were excellent and paired well with the food. I went on their monthly Friday Prix Fixe lunch and it was well worth the $59 pp price. Will be going there regularly.

However, there are two things that I wish Clementine will improve on.
1) The descriptions in the menu. The names and descriptions in the menu do not do the food justice nor is it even accurate. I think the names and descriptions in the Friday lunch I had were more enticing than their regular menu. I cannot imagine that their regular dinner menu is not better, but their names and descriptions don’t make them seem like it.
2) I understand that this is not a Michelin Star restaurant but with this caliber of food, why not? In that vein, while the waiter was super nice, I wish he would have described and explained the food. We got our dishes and there was no explanation, especially in light of the inadequate menu descriptions. There was one dish where after I finished the food, I then realized that the sauce drizzled around the plate was different from what was on the food. The colors were similar so it was not obvious that they were not the same. So, I ate it thinking that it was a little bland, but after eating, I happened to takes the drizzled sauce to see what the sauce was and was shocked to see that it was a different sauce and the food would have been MUCH better, had the waiter told me how to eat the dish and had I applied more sauce to the food. It was disappointing because I felt that I missed enjoying the wonderful dish the way the chef intended. There were other dishes that I wish the waiter explained the different parts of the dish and how to eat it.

Last night in San Antonio, my wife and I decided to venture off the beaten path and try something different from the usual Mexican, BBQ, or Italian spots. We came across Clementine, and while our experience wasn’t perfect, it was certainly memorable.

The restaurant offers a unique take on a multi-course meal, with a “Feed Me” option that features six carefully curated courses. Our server, Braden, was fantastic—attentive, knowledgeable, and transparent about the process. The price was $88 per person, which is on the higher end, but we appreciated the craftsmanship behind the experience.

Each course arrived plated beautifully, but the portions felt quite small—more like tasting plates than full meals—especially for two people sharing. The courses were spaced out with about 15 minutes between each, which was manageable, but the small sizes left us feeling hungry by the end. We also ordered a bottle of $90 wine, which we knew could be found locally for less, but we understood the markup in the restaurant setting.

I spoke to Braden about the value, mentioning that two of us were paying $176 total for what seemed to be limited portions. He explained that this is the style of the restaurant, and he kindly offered to bring out additional courses at no extra charge, which was a generous gesture that we appreciated.

We supplemented the meal with some bread—modest but fine—and I did suggest that perhaps future visits could include two main courses instead of sharing one, as the halibut was particularly small for two people.

Would I return? Definitely. Next time, I plan to order from the menu and compare portion sizes, but overall, Clementine offers a refined, creative dining experience worth exploring. Just be prepared for smaller servings and a leisurely pace—perfect for savoring the culinary artistry.

Attached are photos, and please note that although the servings look large, they are not. Photos can be deceiving.

Okay, I get it! I have been trying to eat at Clementine for quite some time. It’s such great food. I highly recommend the tasting menu. They give you an amazing variety of food. The pasta dishes are my favorite. I still think about it today. The menu is quite seasonal, which makes it so fresh and unique. They combine flavors I’ve never quite had before. It’s a great dinner spot.
