I’ve just tried Babish fried chicken version with tempura batter and dredge of ap flour and rice flour with my extra added touch of chicken powder for flavor. Ignore cornstarch/ flour version recommended by many YouTube chefs. This is better. I’ve got to admit, it’s darn crispy. Outside of frying my own, this is the place to spend on good fried chicken.
Recommended from a coworker who testified to their amazing wings when its prior location was next to a gasoline station and they have moved to a different location.
I was near the area since it’s about 45 min from my hometown of Brick and I decided on a customized sampler platter. I ordered some bone in wings with mango habanero, bbq ribs, one fried chicken thigh, onion rings, jalepeno poppers and the sweet potato waffle fries.
Once I walked in, the very nice lady at the counter greeted me and I told her I was here by a recommendation. She replied that everything was homemade. What? Not frozen and premade nationally in warehouses and shipped by Sysco like hundreds of other restaurants? Oh boy, The standard of excellence just got raised.
I’m happy to say that Claudie’s claim of homemade fried foods just vaulted them to the top among fine dining chefs with a knowledge on how to deliver ultra crispy fried chicken without it being greasy. Wow!!! Colonel Sanders if he was alive would’ve been extremely unhappy knowing someone made a far superior chicken than his. Lol
Everything I ordered was perfection and I have no problem driving 15 min north of my work to get this and drive home for 45 min.
The wings were crispy and juicy. Next time I’m ordering it bare with sauce on the side so I can truly enjoy perfectly rendered crispy chicken wing skin. The mango habanero was a perfect balance of sweet and heat that doesn’t burn the taste buds.
The bbq ribs were perfectly cooked. Most falsely believe that the best ribs fall off the bone. To a point…it needs to tender and not mushy and over cooked but has a chew that reminds you are eating a slab of beef.
The onion rings are perfectly cooked and crispy and the underlying onion bites off cleanly without leaving you a slimy rope to slurp up. This is far better than Burger 25
The sweet potato waffle fries were perfect. Not crispy but that’s extremely difficult to achieve without additives due to the more abundant natural sweet starch in a sweet potato compared to a russet. I’m not complaining. The jalepeno poppers were on target and the best I’ve ever had. This was definitely not frozen in a warehouse months ago and you can tell it was homemade.
By far , the best fried chicken and wings in Southern NJ. I know there are places north that folks rave about but south of the bridge, there’s no comparison, so far.
Far superior in fried chicken than ChickenTown in Brick, Royal Farms, KFC, Chicken Kitchen in Eatontown.
Far superior wings compared to Hooters, Quaker, BWW, Burger 25, Sally Boys, New Corner, Cluck U Chicken, Serpico and even Picasso’s in Charlotte, NC where I hung out every day eating wings sauced with the amazing Caribbean Creepers, for lunch while going to college.
I haven’t tried Wingstop due to their price being more expensive. Why pay for more when I’ve tasted perfection? Lol
Tonight my wife and I ordered the following:
coconut shrimp dinner.
Chicken fingers
Large Mac and Cheese
In regards to the chicken, let me explain it like this, I used to live in Portales NM, and in NM the main gas/station conv store us ALLSUPS, your chicken was on par with theirs. Google map it. This is my main critique overall, it was so bad I was infuriated, its cool though.
The mac and cheese, c’mon… it’s on the level of kraft shells and cheese, not even on par with cracker barrel instant.
To a very large degree I definitely understand that economically things are rough for businesses and consumers alike are being strangled by “Late Stage Capitalism”.
I can’t take this risk anymore when it’s 45 USD for 2 people.
Im not trolling or trying to hate on you guys.
I have no issues other than that.
My wife had the shrimp dinner and was very happy with it.
Everyone there seems to give it their all! It is definitely my favorite place for chicken and basically everything and anything the menu is killer.
And not to mention everything I have tried was very good. So I don’t think that they’re overwhelmed by the size of the menu. They actually pull it off.
