A must-visit in Newport. The Clarke Cooke House absolutely delivers.

The oysters were pristine and briny, served ice-cold with great accompaniments. The crab cake was perfection—crispy outside, packed with crab, zero filler. The pasta was rich, silky, and deeply comforting without being heavy. The burrata was a standout: ultra-creamy and nestled in a warm, savory broth that made every bite feel intentional. Even the herb soup was flawless—simple, cozy, and full of flavor.

Add in polished service and a classic, lively atmosphere, and this place reminds you why it’s such a Newport staple. Everything we ordered was excellent. Would happily come back and order it all again.

Walked in around 1pm on a November Saturday, no seats available without reservation expect at the bar so we sat upstairs at that bar. Very tight seating restaurant but very historical inside.

Me and my friend both got the espresso martini and it was amazinggg!

I got the blue cheese stuffed burger which was also declicious!

Overall we had a nice time and cant wait to come back!

A wonderful experience! We went for a drink the night we arrived and just loved the bar filled with locals and friendly staff so made a reservation to return the following night for dinner and requested a table near the fireplace. So quaint and cozy! We arrived and had a delicious meal….oysters, sushi, lamb, and lobster! As we were finishing dinner a server going up the stairs next to us tripped and dropped an espresso martini shattering the glass and spilling on us. Once we realized we weren’t cut by the glass and just some spots on our clothes we couldn’t believe how concerned the entire staff was. Olivia our server, the management team, and Reggie were all great! Accidents happen, nobody was hurt and they were extremely apologetic. Reggie even found us at the next bar to buy us a drink. That is service and what being in the industry is about! Will also go back when in town! Good food and great people!

Enjoyed a burger with my cousin who came from Dallas to visit. Atmosphere was good and there was a pianist playing (?) above us. It was a bit loud in there between the patrons and music but it was a Sunday and it was full of people enjoying brunch. Slightly snobby attitude from the hostess when greeted and seated but our waitress was good for the most part. I would have preferred a slightly shorter amount of time in between check ins and when it was time to ask for the check we were waiting for her return for a bit too long.
Burger was cooked perfectly to order, medium well, and the fries has the exact crunch on the edges and tenderness on the inside. No soggy fries here. It came with a pickle on the side.
There is a slight walk from the parking area but considering this is Newport, you have to find parking and it’s all paid parking from what I could see.

While we were walking around the harbor in Newport, we wanted to grab a drink. When we walked by, it looked like a nice and fun place. We asked if we could sit at the bar and we were able to find two seats. There were locals and visitors alike, and we could tell we found a gem. Kevin the bartender was friendly, attentive, and made great drinks! When he left his shift, Shawn took over and made sure to keep our water glasses full. We’re so glad we stopped by that afternoon!

The service here was not the best, the waitress couldn’t give me descriptions of ANY of their oysters, I was pretty disappointed, however I still ordered an assortment of oysters as an appetizer and then the lobster roll has my meal. Overall the food was pretty good. Luckily my friend and I had the pleasure of sitting right next to the water! Don’t know that I would recommend this place to anyone but glad I walked in & gave it a try!

I think the photos speak for themselves. The food was exquisite, although the atmosphere felt rather cramped since we were placed near the entrance to the kitchen. Nonetheless, the service was phenomenal (if not a little over bearing at times).

5 stars all around! This place is delicious! Off-season, Wednesday night October, and it was packed. Despite the crowd, our server was attentive and helpful. Highly recommended daily oyster selection and the clam chowder. I enjoyed the featured halibut…. Not sure how often that makes the menu, but if you see it, try it! And save room for the snowball from hell. It’s worth it! Met the GM who graciously gave us a tour and treated us like celebrities. I wish we had more time here… I’d eat here everyday!

We came here at 1pm on a Wednesday in early Aug 2025. We sat alongside of the entrance to enjoy the beautiful weather and hustle and bustle of the wharf.

Our waitress was great. She was prompt. Drinks were quick to arrive and stay topped off.

We wanted a snack and not lunch, so oysters and heirloom tomato with burrata salad was just enough. Everything was so fresh. The chefs choice oysters were buttery and delicious, and the salad, bright, sweet, and the perfect partner to a beautiful summer day.

Can’t wait to return!

Ended our restaurant packed day with a beautiful sit down at the Clarke House.. Finally a good time to try as we normally vacation with our young children. It was a little loud but that never bothers us. The dessert with the sparklers is something we will never forget, and the drinks were delicious. Amazing service, happy to have finally made it
