When my kids were little we used to come here all the time. Now they’re grownups, and I’m old, and I make my husband grab it for me When I want Jamaican, this is the best in a town where there are like 3000 places. It’s so so so so so good. Back in 2019 my girlfriend was working in Deerfield and one day she randomly called me saying she was craving Jamaican food. The only problem was that it was 10am and nothing was open except places like McDonald’s and Burger King.
I scoured Rogers Park and Evanston looking for any Jamaican restaurant that might be open. Just as I was about to give up my search, I passed by Claire’s Korner. The door was locked and the person on the other side of the glass hand gestured that they where closed, but was still kind enough to come to the door. I shared how I was trying to take lunch to my girlfriend and that she worked in Deerfield and really had a hankering for some authentic Jamaican cuisine. Perhaps the person I spoke with(Claire I’m assuming) really appreciated my story, because she simply smiled and said that it was alright for me enter. As I crossed the threshold an enticing aroma greeted me, as Ms. Claire explained how she was in the middle of cooking and there were some menu items that weren’t done yet. Noticing that I was indecisive Ms. Claire said that she’d fix a special plate with a mix of what she did have available. The sampler plate that was prepared had very generous portions and was some of the most amazing food I had ever tasted. That was 6 and a half years ago and I still think about the level of customer service I was provided with at Claire’s Korner.
The old saying that goes: “It’s not what you say to a person, it’s how you make them feel” fits perfectly.
Because on that Saturday morning Ms. Claire made me feel as if I were a family member who was getting exclusive access. It would have been much easier to ask that I return during regular business hours but Ms.Claire decided to open her doors to me both literally and figuratively.

My first time having Jamaican food and I was so blown away that I HAD to immediately come onto Google to post a review.
This is one of the most delicious meals I’ve had in my life, and I’m not exaggerating. The stewed oxtail was rich, fatty and melt-in-your-mouth tender; the steamed cabbage was so flavorful, and the plantains were sweet, caramelized and so delicious. While a little pricey ($30+ after tax for a Large), the portions are generous and worth every cent.
The service was warm and lovely too, and they made me feel so welcome
This was my first time at Claire’s but I’ll definitely be back to try their Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork and Goat Curry!

Absolutely delicious food from an unassuming place, the jerk chicken was tender, smokey, spicy, and well seasoned. The beef patty was rich and luscious without being too fatty and The pastry itself was perfectly crisp. The collard greens had just enough tang and were perfectly balanced with the fatty piece of pork as well. The rice and beans was great to soak up the gravy – I only wish there was more gravy. I’m coming back here for lunch and more. Lovely spot keep it up.

It’s rare to find a place where both the food and the atmosphere are equally outstanding. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a vegetarian and non vegetarian great meals and a genuinely inviting environment. The food was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. What made the visit even more special was the kindness and care of the two lovely ladies who prepared and served our meals.

Jerk chicken was great: tender, juicy, and fragrant from the generous coating of spices. As expected, it was deliciously smoky, bursting with layered flavors, and had such a satisfying kick of heat. Absolute perfection with the jerk sauce. Excellent collard greens and cabbage also!
