When we first walked in we liked the esthetic. We were disappointed to see the crumbled paper menus and staff on their cell phones walking through the restaurant. The waitress was even holding her phone while bringing our food to the table. Honestly, it was unprofessional and distasteful. No utensils, got up to get my own napkins. Finally received utensils when I asked. Soul rolls taste like they were cooked a day prior and reheated. All of the sides tasted old including the banana pudding. Corn bread hard as cement. The chicken and catfish were really good. Service got better at the end but server remained on the phone. Customers can tell when the food is not fresh food looked great but when you dig in you realize it doesn’t taste good. 4/10 would not come back.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Went on a Friday night to take my daughter out for a date. Drove almost 40 mins to be highly disappointed. As soon as we walked in, we found a table. Our “server” approaches us, asks if we want water and will be back. It took 20 mins to get water, was never offered anything else. Never game back to give us straws. We ordered. $20 CJ platter. It looks like they gave me Kroger wings.. two of them.. and then 3 almost burnt pieces of fish that look like fish sticks… I have no clue why it would take almost an hour to bring that much food when there is only 4 tables to serve on a Friday night. The facility needs a good cleaning. One of the “cooks” in the back had her stomach all out and on the table as she was seasoning ribs. I love to support small businesses, but this is one I will never go back to and will be telling all my friends how it was. Terrible experience. Service was the worst I have ever experienced.

Great experience tonight at CJ’s Soul Food! Every time I come in my meal is great. I had CJ’s Platter (Catfish or Perch and Chicken) and everything was delicious! The Mac and Cheese and Sweet potatoes were so tasty. And don’t forget pecan pie and cobbler for dessert! Kyla, our server, took great care of us. And- you get to support a local business! Get out to CJ’s ASAP- you won’t regret it!

First visit and it was during restaurant week and 3 courses was way too much food here! I was beyond stuffed had to take half the entree and most of my dessert to go. Two of us dined in and shared plates. My favorite plate of the evening was the brisket fries. A return visit might see me only ordering that appetizer as my meal. Then the soul rolls. I couldn’t decide if I liked the dipping sauce or if I preferred them as-is. Coming in third place was my riblettes. The sauce/seasoning was perfect but I didn’t really care for working around all the bone fragments and cartilage bits. And the riblettes came with the green beans – which as a side stole the show. So much flavor! The blackened chicken on fettuccine was good – very well seasoned. And that came with a side of sweet potato casserole. I took only the tiniest taste of that as I can’t eat pecans. It was so rich it could have been a dessert. The beignets and peach cobbler both were packed to go and therefore I didn’t get the ice cream. I think both desserts suffered from being packed warm in to-go containers. They needed to be enjoyed warm and straight from the kitchen. I even went into CJs hungry fully prepared to eat and it was too much!
Instant fan here. I already know what I’m ordering next time!

Had been anticipating visiting this place since it opened and it fell short of expectations. Food is large portions & the price definitely reflects that.
Collared greens were excellent. Not a fan of the smoked greens dip, soup rolls, or potato salad sadly.

It’s been over a year, almost to the day since I was last there. They were always closed due to a very limited revised schedule. At one point, I was the only person in during the dinner rush. It took 45 mins for my food to be ready. They said they were waiting on the mac & cheese, only for it you taste rushed.
I had a drink while waiting on my to go order & they automatically charged 18% tip on my to go order.
Even though the food is good (everything except the mac), no wonder they are on the brink of closing for good. It’s things like this that will make it another year before I go back.

I recently dined at this restaurant with high hopes for a pleasant experience, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant and conducive to a good dining experience. However, the service left much to be desired. Our waitress seemed disorganized from the start, forgetting her order-taking instrument, which led me to offer her a pen and paper instead.
After a rocky start, the service did improve slightly, but it never reached the standard I would expect, certainly not warranting an 18% gratuity. The level of service provided may have been worth a modest tip of $5 to $10, but certainly not the $23 she ended up receiving.
As for the food, while there were some highlights like the chicken wings, which were the best part of the meal, the overall quality was lacking. Paying $26 for 9 wings felt exorbitant and did not align with the value received. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the food a 5.
Taking everything into consideration, including the mediocre service, overpriced menu items, and average food quality, I have to say that the overall experience was disappointing. It’s not worth the drive from Hilliard to this location for me, and I would hesitate to recommend it to others based on my experience.

Had pops burger and fries once and loved it went back to get another one and instead of getting a good $15 burger that I went to pay for because that’s where I go to get the best burger around or so I thought and I get a plain burger with cheese in white bread just ruined my whole opinion and everything I used to tell people about this place will no longer have my service love the first burger I had thanks to whoever made that for me!! And for the person who responding saying they were letting people know I went in and ordered and watched someone get 2 burgers made right with buns and watched them get them and it made us more excited do better nobody told us they were out or I would’ve went and got a new burger don’t make excuses for your mistakes own up to it!!!

Upon entering, we received a warm greeting and were invited to be seated wherever we preferred.
We received menus and were kindly asked about our beverage preferences.
Our food arrived approximately fifteen minutes later. The chicken quarters were somewhat dry, but the macaroni and cheese appeared creamy and appetizing.
The brisket and fries were absolutely amazing; I would certainly order them again.
The egg rolls were satisfactory. The sauce was perhaps a bit too sweet for my preference. While the menu indicated the presence of collard greens, I was unable to detect them. The macaroni and cheese was quite dominant in the overall flavor profile of the egg roll.
My sole suggestion for improvement would be to relocate employee food and beverage consumption areas to locations inaccessible to customers. Otherwise, the performance was satisfactory.

1/25/24 Had an amazing dinner with my momma. She has been a chef for a long time and we love good food. Fall off the bone ribs and soul food to make your soul happy. Greens perfectly seasoned. Drinks on point! Overall 5 star hands down! Very nice servers, great service!
