We ordered takeout and food that wasn’t pizza tonight for the first time, and holy moly. Not to say the pizza isn’t phenomenal, it absolutely is, but wow did we love the pasta. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly, had a very fair amount of shrimp for the price, and had some heat without it overpowering the sweet basil and tomato. And I’m a sucker for pasta served with bread crumbs. Truly phenomenal.
My partner ordered the ribeye, which we understand was a special, but it was standout. It was cooked perfectly to the requested temperature, had good seasoning and sauce, and came with perfectly cooked sides.
We love dining in here to eat pizza, the chill vibes are perfect, but will absolutely be getting takeout and ordering pasta/etc. again.

Ciao in Somerville is one of those rare spots that completely overdelivers. From the moment you walk into the cozy, no-frills space, you know you’re in for something special. The pizza? Unreal. Perfectly blistered crust with just the right chew, and toppings that actually taste thoughtfully sourced—not just thrown on for show. The prosciutto and arugula combo was a standout, but honestly, everything that came out of that oven was next-level.
What really sets Ciao apart, though, is the vibe. It’s unpretentious, local, and clearly run by people who care deeply about what they’re doing. The service was warm and genuine, even on a busy night. It’s the kind of place you want to keep to yourself—but also can’t help telling everyone about.
If you’re a fan of wood-fired pizza done right, skip the hype and go straight to Ciao. It’s a gem.

Excellent pizza and pasta, just like their original restaurant in Chelsea.
Didn’t realize this was the Somerville outpost of the famous Ciao Pizza and Pasta (their website oddly omits the connection). What I’d assumed was just a neighborhood pizzeria turned out to be a sleeper hit, with a kitchen that clearly took its craft seriously. After looking at the chefs in crisp white uniforms, we quickly changed our minds and decided to dine in, and it was absolutely the right call.
For the pizza, we opted for the Salsiccia. Definitely not your minimalist Neapolitan. This one came fully loaded with fennel sausage, mozzarella, and chopped basil, covering the entire surface. The crust had those signature puffy corniciones and a soft, foldable center with a beautiful char that played nicely with the sausage’s extra grease. Easily one of the best Neapolitan-style pizzas I’ve had in the city. The default spice level was pretty high though, so I recommend asking them to go light on the pepper flakes.
What really surprised me were their regular Italian entrées– Duck Confit risotto & Spaghetti. I’m not usually a fan of squash-based risottos, especially when paired with savory proteins, but the duck confit here was shockingly good. Fall-apart tender, deeply savory—honestly better than most duck confit I’ve had at Boston’s French spots.
Spaghetti was the biggest surprise. Looked like a basic shrimp pasta on the menu, but it ended up being the best shrimp pasta I’ve had in Greater Boston (slightly better than the one I had at MIDA). The rock shrimp were delicately poached, almost silky, and paired perfectly with a bright, tangy white wine sauce, crunchy breadcrumbs, and parsley.
Without a doubt, best spot in Somerville for pizza and pasta. Highly recommend giving them a try.

Went here early on a Thursday night and the food was tremendous. Definitely not the cheapest meal in town but the beet salad was great, but the spaghetti and the prosciutto pizza were amazing. We ordered 2 cannolis and received 4, and they also didn’t present the itemized bill upon checkout, so I was a little miffed about that but the food was so great I won’t complain.

Got two pizzas to go. Good selection and easy to customize. Very tasty crust and great option for local pizza.

Ciao is awesome at every thing they do. We’ve always been huge fans of their Chelsea location and were ecstatic when they opened a spot near us in Somerville. Since opening we’ve gone a number of times and haven’t had a bad meal. The pizza’s are great, their sandwiches with homemade chips are perfect for lunch, and we recently tried their braised short rib pasta and it was one of the best pasta’s we’ve had out in a long time and easily one of the best you can get in Somerville. The staff is incredibly friendly and they even have great cannoli’s! Can’t recommend this place enough!

Ciao is amazing! It Never lets us down, my husband and I went for our date night and ordered the shrimp bruschetta for an appetizer, for the main entree we got the chefs special which was a wood- fired Ribeye served with roasted asparagus, garlic butter, vincotto and a side of truffle Mac and cheese, when I say that this was the best meal I’ve had in a long time I am not exaggerating. Everything is so fresh and perfectly cooked, the cozy ambience tops everything off and the staff is amazing very attentive and always on top of things. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Got takeout from here and was absolutely blown away by the food quality. Definitely on the pricier side but both the mushroom pizza and Bolognese pasta were rich and flavorful. The pizza had a custom cheese blend on it that was soft and not too salty and the texture of the pasta was cooked exactly al dente. I would definitely order from here again if I’m feeling like something a little fancy!

Great pizza place in Ball square! Came here for an impromptu meal and was not disappointed. They have a variety of pizzas, salads, and appetizers available. It’s somewhat difficult to find parking in the area, but if you can find a spot on the street or nearby, make sure to drop by. Seating is limited, so would highly recommend this for ordering for pickup or delivery.
The pizza oven is right within view and so you can see how quickly the team makes their pizzas to order.
