We don’t talk politics, we don’t talk religion and we follow the golden rule. That’s it, its simple. So let’s get back to the way things used to be; have some drinks, share some laughs and kick some ass!. If that ain’t your cup of tea or you’re one of them sensitive types..head on down the road. **⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Legendary – The Best Honky Tonk Experience in the Black Hills!**

If you’re cruising through the Black Hills and craving an authentic slice of Wild West magic, look no further than the Chute Rooster in Hill City, South Dakota. This historic gem – a 125-year-old National Register landmark that’s been rocking as the original honky tonk since 1971 – is pure perfection!

From the moment we stepped into this rustic, cowboy-dedicated haven with its eclectic decor, two bars, patios, and that unbeatable dance hall vibe, we knew we were in for an epic night. The food? Out-of-this-world delicious – juicy bison burgers, perfectly cooked prime rib, bourbon-glazed salmon, and those smoked wings with house sauce that had us licking our fingers clean. Paired with local craft beers and killer cocktails, it was a feast fit for any rodeo legend.

But what truly made this place shine brighter than a South Dakota sunset were the incredible hosts, **Cliff** and **Ryan**. These guys are the heart and soul of the Chute Rooster – welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about making every guest feel like family. Ryan’s hospitality and Cliff’s energy turned a great meal into an unforgettable adventure. Their dedication (along with the awesome staff) has elevated this spot to must-visit status!

Live music thumping, billiards clacking, and that lively Western spirit in the air – we danced, laughed, and didn’t want to leave. If you’re in Hill City, do yourself a favor and saddle up to the Chute Rooster. Five stars aren’t enough – this place is Black Hills gold! We’ll be back soon, y’all!

Very cool restaurant with live music and friendly staff. I had the pulled pork sandwich and regretted it. The fried potato chips were also bland, and tasted a bit oil burnt from the fryer. I should have got the Bison burger, which was good.
I would give it another chance because of the very cool atmosphere, but I’d try something else and not pulled pork.

After a week in Hill City, this is the best place to dine. Friendly service and great food.
If you dare, try the ‘Mile of Hell’ burger – if you like it *really* hot, it’s outstanding! (if you don’t, you might need an ER)

Great place to eat! The servers were all very nice and fast with our refills. This place fills up around 6 pm. The food tasted great so we went there a second time before leaving town.

The restaurant is a picture of an old cabin. It’s comfortable and very inviting.

The hostess and server were very personable….fun people.

Al though a bit pricey, we are in a tourist area and visiting Mt. Rushmore tomorrow.

Food and drink were fabulous.

Receipt in final picture.

Mehhh, it was okay, i wouldnt drive out of my way again, not a fan of the hot pickles on the burger, , i like dill, the host sat me and bartender brought my drink and food at the same time, brought the wrong soda too, it was diet, wasnt terribly expensive tho, i got the chute rooster burger, fries and coke, and tipped 18% and still only paid 20 and some change, but if i was visiting rushmore again id choose somewhere else to eat, just felt like a bar, not bad for a saloon style feel with a grill, if thats what your looking for tho, just a basic burger and fry, and its not worth $1 extra for chz, but thanks

Love this place more after each visit. Came for the “20 Year Bloody Mary” and it was worth the trip. SPICY, boozy and loaded with food. We also got the Chili Cheese Fries so the sour cream could reduce the heat from the Bloody Mary. The vibe of this place is: let your hair down and relax. Good music (in the background so you can still have a conversation), good food, good selection of drinks for every taste. This is the place you’ll tell everyone about on Monday.

Went on a Thursday night. We enjoyed the live music, wings and burger. Our server, Susan, was the best! We look forward to going there again.

I had high hopes for this place. Went there on a Wednesday evening with my date. It seemed that more than half the menu was unavailable! Why? I was explained because they are closed on Mondays. After learning that most menu items were not available, I settled for the green chili queso Mack n cheese with pulled pork. When I got my meal it looked nothing like what I had visioned. I didn’t even see green chili. It looked like watered down pasta with cheese sprinkled on top. I couldn’t even finish it. My date had to settle for the prime rib dip. This was her 4th try because everything wasn’t available. Her sandwich was not prime rib what so ever! It was over cooked “steak-ums” meat. She couldn’t even finish hers. Food was terrible for the price. It’s hard to mess up a pasta dish and they managed that. Someone try to change my mind because I don’t think I will ever go back!

This is everything you need in a warming, charming, and relaxing cowboy-style destination. The food is outstanding, the music creates a fantastic vibe, and the top-notch service offers a level of quality that feels far beyond its price. It’s a genuine experience you won’t soon forget.
