I’m not from Macomb at all, I’m from Beecher, Illinois on a college visit to Western Illinois. I wanted to see what Macomb had to offer in terms of local food to get a vibe of how my campus life would be on weekends or whatnot. I know nothing about this town but Chubby’s definitely gave me a wonderful first impression. The waitress (didn’t think to get her name but she had this really pretty moth tattoo) was so sweet and really attentive to me and my grandfather. They weren’t super busy when I went but definitely weren’t dead either. The food was really good, nice price, really huge portions in my opinon. I got the spicy chicken sandwich, not tossed in anything (it was pretty spicy and I loved that tator tots were an option instead of only fries) and my grandfather got the meatloaf with a side salad. We both really enjoyed the food. When we first were googling around I got rather worried as some of the reviews were super negative 1 stars while others were like radiating 5s, but I genuinely believe that the 1 star reviews were completely wrong and most likely written by impatient people who don’t understand the appeal of local restaurant/bar. This was definitely a dining experience that has made me feel better about going from a rural farmtown to another area similar to it. Hoping the tour goes great because I’d definitely comle back.

The tacos were good. They get very busy. We were able to sit immediately when getting there at 11. Around 12 there is a line and waiting to be seated. We were there an hour and a half. From being seated, ordering, and finishing eating.

We really enjoyed the experience. The stuffed mushrooms were excellent. I had a Ribeye cooked as ordered that was very good. Atmosphere was nice, we ate on the raised floor. Thumbs up.

Eclectic setting. Food was really good. Service a little lacking, although, think they were training some new staff. Bathroom was awkward. Anyone opening the door of the men’s bathroom can see you at the urinal. No partition to block the view, for privacy.

I ordered the Shrimp Tacos from here, and they were pretty bland. Everything on the taco had virtually no real flavor- the pico added little to the flavor, since it was mostly tomatoes. The Avocado Aioli they put on it had no flavor either, aside from a very faint avocado taste (and if you’ve had avocado you know they dont have much flavor to begin with). The shrimp was nicely fried but seemed to have no seasoning, not even salt tossed on them after frying. Im pretty sure they put arugula on it but didn’t bother to pick out the stems. I think the basis of this dish is a good start; it just needs some work.
Edit: to the owner, if you want a successful business in anything learn to take criticism. You sound so childish replying to people the way that you do. Be grateful you still have a small business instead of using covid as an excuse for your food to be horrible. I did think about coming back to give some other food a try, but frankly after seeing your customer service I think I’ll just leave it at that. Your first impression on me was mediocre and boring. I definitely will be telling people not to come here.

Love some chubbys. It’s a must stop restaurant in Macomb. From home style meals like meatloaf, to brilliantly cooked steaks they are delicious. Honestly their whole menu is delicious.

My husband and I ordered brisket tacos with coleslaw and a side of fries. The food was delicious. I do have a slight complaint; We did not have utensils for the coleslaw and no paper towels. This was only a problem due to us eating at a nearby park.

We went for the Korean tacos. They were cold, very small. A even smaller amount of beef. The topping were carrot strip, red onions. No slaw or cilantro. If there was Korean BBQ sauce you could not taste it. Asked if the ice tea was brewed. She said yes. But only Sweet tea! Asked for lemon in water. No lemon no explanation!

My husband and I went for a quick lunch yesterday while our kids were in school. The owner greeted us as soon as we walked in. He seated us, told us their special of the day and had drinks out to us very quickly. Our waitress was excellent and very attentive. The food was steaming hot and absolutely delicious and was made quickly. The portions were huge. The building was clean and had a very trendy yet comfortable feeling. I would highly recommend it!!
