I visited this place recently, and it’s a Chinese-style skewer spot where you pick what you want and grill everything yourself. The prices are very reasonable, and there were a lot of people waiting in line. The taste, however, wasn’t as great as I expected. It’s definitely a good value for the price, but the flavor fell a bit short of what I was hoping for. Still, I think it’s worth trying, and I would recommend it to others.

Service was fantastic, atmosphere curated to feel like you’re dining in Asia (although I don’t understand the kid sized tables and seating). Chubby empire is impressive and it’s always fun trying their new restaurants. Pro tip, avoid the short ribs… it’s impossible to cook! Shared a photo of the raw meat as a reference. The best skewer was the chicken cartilage, the dumpling soup and spicy cucumber are delicious too! I wish Chubby had auto rotation for evenly cooked meat but still worth trying. Membership discount available. Table for four requires strategic placement of skewers but make it a date night for two and you’re good

We’ve already come through here a handful of times because its great food and fun at the same time. We can’t recommend this spot enough to our friends and they all seem to have a great time as well. For some reason it’s just enjoyable to grab your own food, season it the way you want, and cook it on your own. Theres a nice primal feeling to it all and while it was fun to try a bunch of different options, I always find myself enjoying their beef options a lot more than other similar spots. The beef here is really good. What’s fun is that their dessert is also meant to be cooked over the fire pit, which is nice to stick with the over all theme. The only thing that bummed us out is that the place is only open in the afternoon and is open until 3am, which is nifty, but some times we want to come by for lunch. That ain’t happening it looks like, but one can dream.

Chubby Skewers is a great spot for authentic Chinese BBQ. The skewers are flavorful and freshly grilled, and at just $1.20 per skewer, the pricing is very reasonable. There’s a wide variety to choose from, making it fun to try different items. The atmosphere is casual and lively—perfect for a quick bite or sharing with friends. Overall, a solid place for tasty, affordable skewers.

First of all, flavor of the skewers are great. They are seasoned and the beef skewers are very delicious.

But why 3 stars?
It is a serve yourself type of place, and the grill opening is very small, it can only fit 7-9 skewers at a time. Not great for groups more than 3.
It takes SUPER LONG TIME to have a batch of these skewers to be cook and ready to eat.
The table is very low and your knee will not fit under the table. You are bending down to eat the entire time, stomach feels upset.

Floor is also super oily and slippery, be careful not to fall.

Had an amazing experience at Chubby Skewers, the waiters were very helpful in explaining everything. You scan the QR code to order sides and drinks. Skewers are self serve at $1 ea. Some food items have 2 skewers so that’s $2. The beers selection was good. I tried most of them. The wagyu skewers were amazing. Even the fatty ones tasted excellent. I usually use the fat to season the grill. I tried duck tongue for the first time that was interesting. In total we ate 51 skewers. I was shooting for 100. The place closes at 3 am so its a perfect place to hang out with friends late night or even a date.

Chubby Skewers is a lively Chinese BBQ spot that delivers an authentic and communal dining experience, perfect for large parties who enjoy the fun of grilling at the table. The skewers here are flavorful, seasoned well, and remind me of street-style barbecue in Northern China. That said, while the food is solid, there are a few caveats diners should know before coming in.

Ambiance: 5/5
This is a place designed for groups. The setup is casual, energetic, and tailored for sharing. The grill-in-the-center concept creates a festive environment, making it a great option for gatherings with friends or family who want to linger over drinks and skewers.

Authenticity: 4.5/5
The skewers taste authentic and capture the essence of Chinese street BBQ—spiced, savory, and just the right amount of smoky. From lamb to chicken wings to veggie skewers, the flavor profiles feel genuine and satisfying.

Flavor: 4/5
The seasonings stand out, especially the cumin and chili powder that coat the meats. However, since diners cook the skewers themselves, the flavor can vary depending on how evenly they’re grilled. When cooked just right, they’re delicious; but it does take effort to avoid undercooking or burning.

Service: 4/5
Staff are attentive enough, ensuring grills stay hot and orders come out steadily. However, there isn’t much assistance with the actual cooking process, which could be a challenge for first-timers unfamiliar with table-top grilling.

Cost: 4/5
Reasonably priced for group dining, with skewers adding up quickly depending on how much you order. Considering the quality of the meat and the fun factor, the value feels fair for what you get.

Final verdict: Chubby Skewers is a solid spot for anyone craving authentic Chinese BBQ in a social, lively setting. Just know that part of the experience requires you to stay on top of the grill—constant flipping is necessary to ensure even cooking and avoid burning. If you’re okay with that, it’s a fun and tasty place well worth visiting.

It’s a quaint spot. Like, China street stuff inside. Like, low chairs and cooking skewers And all. Glad they had beer so I don’t feel weird about semi squatting on a chair to cook food. It was fun cool.

This place would’ve been 5 stars if the atmosphere wasn’t so off putting. The food is great, but you’re packed into a cramped space with very, very loud music.

We went on a Saturday night and I was shocked to see how cramped it was in Chubby Skewers. The tables were TINY—you definitely won’t be able to comfortably fit your legs under the table. It feels like the table height is only fine if you’re sitting on the floor, which you’re not.

Also, they were BLASTING obnoxious electronic music the entire time. I would highly recommend bringing ear plugs because it sounds like you’re at a concert there. I’m sure the employees are gonna notice that their hearing is declining in the future if they spend that much time in such a boisterous environment.

It was painfully clear that management doesn’t want you to stay there long. Coupled with the cramped seating situation, it’s evident that they’re just trying to get as many customers as possible. I’ve heard from friends that other locations they’ve visited weren’t like this one in Rowland Heights, so I wouldn’t recommend coming to this one unless you don’t care about the atmosphere at all. It’s a shame because the food was actually good. The parking situation is pretty bad though, so also keep that in mind if you want to visit.

The food is flavorful and authentic — the skewers are perfectly seasoned and grilled just right. Everything came out hot and fresh.Thank you very much our sever Joe!

The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the menu has a great variety. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is lively but comfortable.

Definitely one of the best skewer spots in the area. I’ll absolutely be back!
